Umm,i replaced my isolators on my '99 last year.The old ones were ok.The new ones are ok.My X1 only has 21k miles tho. I still scratch my head wondering why i have no issues.I've been lurking these iso threads all along

I installed the 79D and left for a weekend ride. Nobody told me that the built-in washer needs to be cut down to a D-washer!!!! The damn thing was rattling against the steering tube until it wore a groove in it. I had to cut a D-shape with a sawz-all while it was still in plce.

I Installed the 79-d about two weeks ago and did not cut on the isolator at all except to ream out the center! Something dosen't sound right here?? I have put about 500 miles on mine so far with no problems! Hope you didn't weaken your isolator by hacking on it with a recipricating blade!

On 2nd one with over 54K miles on it(-79C) ...

What the "HELL" could "i" be doing "RIGHT" ???

Ummmmm 79c close to original spec ISO? Bring back the original spec ISO that worked? Thats the " problem " There isnt alot of people complaining about the mileage and performance of the original spec iso, just the butch job or different designed replacements.

The BIG TWIN Engine sits on the ISOLATOR where the BUELL "HANGS FROM IT" ...

The BIG TWIN were also rip these ISOLATORS apart that is why they went from a -79 to a -79A to a -79B to a -79C and finally to a -79D ...

When my 2nd isolator goes bad it will get the -79D, why you ask, well because it is stronger ...

The 79D is taller than the stocker. That's why the D-washer doesn't fit (because with the D-washer on, the bolt doesn't protrude all the way through the nut.) So the metal washer that is integral to the isolator (on the 79D) is in the same position, height-wise, as the D-washer was. And its diameter is not much less. Therefore, it obviously must be cut to a D-shape. Except that I seem to be the only one with this as an issue.
I had maybe an 1/8" between the isolator washer and the steer tube. That wasn't enough. Could the S2 have the steer tube closer than other models? Possibly riding two-up with luggage is maxing out the carrying capacity of the bike?
As to how it is now, there is still a bit of a hum tranmitted through the frame when the suspension compresses. I don't know if its still making slight contact or if that is the normal feel of the isolator being compressed to its max (again, riding two-up.) I did a solo ride yesterday and didn't notice anything at all.)

The 1/8" clearance and the buzz transmitted when the suspension compresses tells me you need to look at the rear Iso's.

My X1 and S3 both have over 3/16" with the -79D unaltered.

When you say "unaltered" I assume you are not referring to the center hole.
That has to be reamed out to 1/2" regardless, right?

I'm sure he means unaltered as in not cut to a D.
And plus 1, unfortunately, on the rears. New last month, I guess they failed as a result of the new front one failing.
And a look at the owner's manual says the bike is 475 lbs delivered and has a GVW of 850. Which means that with gas and oil plus my 200 lbs, I have capacity for luggage and a lady totalling 150 lbs. I may have to look at what an upgrade would cost.

It happened to me again, no more than a 1000 miles after the last replacement.

1. Year: 2000
