I still run in to bikers (kids on gsxr's) that have never seen an x-1 yet alone the RR, RS, S1/2/3 bikes so I guess were not that old school.
(man Im starting to feel old)

Any body figured out a quick way to pull the battery out of a Ma Deuce WITHOUT pulling the rear fairing off? (As the Service Manual tells you to do?) I looked at it; it looks like maybe it would slip out the right side with the heat shield out of the way. Anybody tried this?

Cap

You're right (at least it works on mine), although pulling the tail section off give you a chance to clean uder there (you won't believe the amount of spooge that gathers in that location!)

I took my Mill X1 into work on Friday. About six of us rode in, and we all went for a quick ride at lunch. A Fatboy, and R1, an FZR, and a Honda and Kawa Vulcan cruiser. They are motorcycle guys, and none of them had even SEEN an X1. They had seen them in magazines, but never on the street. That felt pretty good...until the Harley guy said, "Well, I've never seen an Edsel on the street either...." LOL

Thanx, Bomber!
Not that pulling the fairing is such a big deal, it's just that yanking the battery oughta be a quick affair and not involve pulling the tank and such...

I get my 00 M2 up in the North Ga mountains with the sport bike crowd and they are amazed that a "Harley" can keep up and often spank them in the curves. Especially cause it only has a single disc, one carb and (horror) eclispe saddle bags!

So, since I ripped the fuel injection of my 2000 X-1 and put a carb on it, does that now make it qualify for "old school"? I like to tinker with my bike, and the DDFI just didn't afford me the ability to fine tune like I want. It actually runs better now, but then again, that could be the head work, cams and crane ignition adding to that. hehehe.....

Seems to me that the X1 was the last big displacement Buell prior to the XB renaissance; The last day of the old school. I've never ridden a bike that I've enjoyed more.

So I go away a few months, and now I see the "Old School" forum is FULL of X1 content. So I guess my original post/question wasn't so stupid after all. It is old school - I knew it!

Ok, let me ruin the threat by simply stating I really enjoy my X1 as it does everything I want.

Is a great all round bike. Lots of things it isn't, but then if those issues become important to me, I can get a bike specifically designed to address them.

In the interim, I have the ability to change the appearance of the X1 to satisfy my whims for a minimal investment knowing that I still have a great handling bike.

I'd say the X1's are Pseudo-Old School, but we welcome you just the same. : D
