how would you hack a stock one up to make the shorter one? if you just cut a section out your going to have to bend in the front part of the subframe to match it up, then tig weld it? | ||

Thought about trying to mod one, but I don't have the skills or tools. Besides, by the time I found someone to attempt to make it and then if I could find someone to make a seat it would be a huge PIA and probably not save much $$ in the end. | ||

Cut, weld, grind, file, sand, pc or paint. You do the hacking/cutting and find a shop who will weld back up, then do the finish work yourself (sitting in the living room with a file, working over the garbage can and watching the entire Star Wars/Godfather/Rocky/Lethal Weapon series, just pick one). There's barely enough space in the stock tail for all the bs I keep back there. I think ill pass on making it even smaller.. Best of luck though modding yours. I'd be interested in seeing how a diy job turns out. | ||

my suggestion, as I did: buy one (we borrowed one from a friend), use it as a sample and make copies. we saved a lot of moneys, also with custom triple trees... | ||

Thank you Littlebuggles. Thats what I had in mind. No, not everyone has skills/tools needed. Was just trying to give out an option. The Eye-talion Job maybe said it better. Make a copy in smaller version using the stocker as a model. It can be done, wouldnt be charging you 12 hunnert some dollars to sell you one. Again, not everyone has the ability thats why its 12 hunnert..............New bizz, sponsor, sounds good right now with being laid off. Hmm is right. | ||

been looking at it all day... don't know hacking up the oem one would look like anything but a hack job. (especially if i did it). the problem is the stocker flares out a lot... it is more than the length being an issue. i would be willing to contribute a few $$ toward a test tail section for someone to hack on if they have skills that might get a good result... | ||

ok, let me see if this would work: I can make those tail sections for less money, but I need you guys to be at least 4 or 5. it'll take about a month (that's what take also if you order from trojan horse, those are made by order), and the tail will come complete with seat and mounting hardware. let me know if you guys are interested, so I can give you a price... | ||

I was trying to look for the pics my friend in Italy sent me of the work in progress of the tail section, but can't find them now! S H I T!!! here are some shots of the seat skeleton...    everything was done exactly like the original one. even the seat skeleton, it was a pain in the ass to make it and pretty expensive overall, but you need that to keep the seat straight when you seat on it. it could be possible to use the stock seat, since the front attachment is the same, and customize that one. that would bring the price down, but if you guys want a good job done, I suggest to buy even the seat skeleton. Michael, the more you guys are, the more the price will go down, so my suggestion is: try to find as much people as possible. now all the molds are done, so the fabrication will be pretty fast. to us it took a while cause the artisan needed to create the molds first from the original one and it took him a while. after that though, the production is going to be fast. let me know how many people you are and I'll tell you the price, since as I told you, the price for 2 tails would be different than for 5 or 6!  | ||

Oh hell, looks like Edoardo just scooped my new business idea, that's what I get for puttin' it on the net, would have seen it anyway I suppose.  I think he's got us both beat with the fabrication already figured from a working model Wile_ecoyote, but the adventurous do-it-yourselfer in me is wanting to try it, just because. Capital_g, I suppose that's why hacking is called hacking and not cutting eh? I wonder if hacking with finesse would be considered rough cut? All in the semantics I suppose. This is a pretty cool web-community. | ||

Littlebuggles, I absolutely had no idea you wanted to do a business out of it, since I don't write and read anymore on the forum. I was just passing by, read about it and gave an idea. just to let you know, Capital G asked me already to have the tail section from my guy, but I told him he wouldn't do just one order. then he started this post to buy from trojan horse, and I said if he could come up with some buyers, he could have had them from my guy at a reasonable price. before to accuse me, you should ask first. this is the reason why I don't write here anymore: everybody thinks is a super-hero, there's no friendship or community here, just a bunch of people who own bikes, but no bikers here. and our project (mine and my buddies from italy, there we have a real Buell community, not here!) started about 4 months ago, with custom tail sections and custom triple trees, and everything will be ready next week. we did ourselves better and saved money, smart uh??? | ||

Edoardo, I sincerely apologize to you. Reading your response, and then mine again I see it could be taken quite another way than the tongue-in-cheek self mockery that I intended it to be. You've got the people who have figured out how to do the job. They will do it if there's enough demand, so that puts Capital_g in the perfect place to be your advertising rep and drum up a bunch of sales the both of you could get a part of. You, of course are the supply rep, right? The framework is set for a possible business venture that would be profitable and perhaps fun, run with it! It's a perfect opportunity and I think you are in the right place at the right time, but that's just me. I didn't look at your profile (I have previously, but forgot your location) and had a brief moment where I thought you guys had built them cheap overseas and were going to have to import them. We have had some bad eggs here, I hope I haven't appeared to be one of them, most have filtered themselves out finding this is not the place for them. There are many good people here, and I do think it's a great place to exchange ideas and bring people together within the Buell enthusiast community. Sorry guys, I didn't mean to say anything that was rude. Serious and whole hearted encouragement here from me. You could be the guys on THIS side of the pond making it happen for these parts and maybe more in the future! | ||

Yes, we've done that tail exactly the same of the RRC one for less money, and to be honest with you, the only thing that brought up the price was the seat skeleton, believe it or not! The tail price in itself was a surprise for me too, I thought it was gonna be more expensive and slightly different, when I can assure you it's the same! I will post some pics of the tail done Monday... | ||

Hey Guys- Lets all slow down a little bit. I think people here are trying to figure out how to get a product for their bike without paying through the nose. I don't think anyone had any other motives.. I know I didn't. I started this post as a group buy, that didn't work too well so I am open to options. From what I gathered Italian seemed to have the best option. Littlebuggles -Maybe I am slow, but I didn't understand your post to be an offer to make the tail???? Addendum: Comments regarding hacking and cutting were specific replies to Capital_g's statement's on modifying the stock tail section, and were also tongue-in-cheek. Sarcasm is a clumsy tool for humor, and I wield it poorly as well. Of course you cannot see me smile ruefully at having to clarify what I thought what I said had been one thing, and it came out rough and sounding like something else entirely. No, I wasn't offering  but as I typed the steps I might use, and suggest others could use them too (I'd watch Star Wars or some sort of Jackie Chan or Jet Li marathon). Then, after I typed it I thought, maybe I know people who know people who could help make this happen... ....considered a bit more.... ....then got on here and happily observed it was already well under way and was thrilled that someone else had done the work instead of me (um, yeah, I know that totally make me sound lazy) and then quickly proceeded to chuck around my sharp sense of humor like a well oiled chainsaw in the milking parlor at o'four-thiry.... ...Soooo.... ...anyway... ...I'm absolutely cutting myself off here.
