Please know I am searching and reading but sometimes I cannot find what I need to know.

On this 2000 X1 I want to replace the headers as they have damage that was under the wraps and had a poor fit to the heads and muffler. I think it may have been laid down on the right side. Some things I found were the damaged pipe, broken exhaust flange, damaged stud (may have to retap the head), poor fit to the muffler, looks like a red right cover painted black.

So, in replacing the header I am not sure if I should just find a stock one or get a pro racing version that is mentioned for fit when looking at a D&D muffler. For example, see here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BUELL-D-D-Slip-On-E xhaust-Race-Muffler-S1-S3-X1-M2_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ categoryZ35573QQihZ023QQitemZ360017140565QQrdZ1QQs spagenameZWDVW

What are the differences between a stock header and the pro race? Bends? Fitments to mufflers - i.e. fits only certain mufflers. Where can I find a pro race header?

If I go race I will get the ECM or better yet get up to speed on ECMSpy.

Sorry for the so many Noobie questions, it will all be over soon once I get up to speed : )

The bend at the end is different than the stocker.
If you're getting a header, perhaps a full race system would be the best route.

I don't have any direct experience with the D&D other than hearing them go by but I think that elbow is to adapt the stock header to the muffler.

Someone else please correct me if I'm wrong but I think the race header goes right into the muffler directly.

The Race header has longer primary tubes, and is easily identifiable by looking at the collector. The stock collector meets in the front and points down, toward the left side of the bike. The race header collector meets on the left side, and points to the rear. It seems to "wrap around" the engine more.

I personally like the "full" race kit, header, muffler, filter, and ECM. They run really well and are all designed to go with one another.

I've never seen a D+D that fit a race muffler, but that certainly doesn't mean they don't. I prefer the Race kit tone over a D+D. I think the D+D is just obnoxious loud...

If you do get a race header, be sure you get one for the X1 lightning, the S1 Lightning piece won't fit and has no o2 sensor bung.

Recommendations on where to get the header and muffler? Is there only one brand of the race header?

I think if you go with something like the Force then you can only use there muffler. From what I know though the longer those tubes often the better the performance - not that I know anything yet about race headers and performance on X1s.

If I have to get new I will spend the bucks now for race versions except ECM. I will probably try and do that myself.

So, in Race for Air in the recommendation is filter only if you stick with the side box otherwise there is NRHS for Force etc.? I have read on here that the thought is you can't do much better than the box.

I assume any of the aftermarket AC stuff accommodates the IAT sensor?

I have a 2000 M2 with the stock header & D&D can. I bought the D&D "race" system for the bike off ebay for $209.00. My kit consisted of the muffler, a 90 degree elbow, and a couple of clamps. It may not necessarily be a "race" kit (a header would make it a full race kit), but I was informed that the muffler will fit right up to the race header and the elbow drops out of the equation.

As far as aftermarket headers, there is:
Buell
Bubs
Kooks
Force
D&D
Probably more brands out there, but Im not that savvy. Youre gonna have to do a little searching for Bubs or Kooks. Last time I saw a Force TI system it was running right at $1300.00

Where can I get a race header? Having trouble locating one online. Just the header and not a full length system like Force.

Try e-bay, saw one today, don't remember if it was a race or stocker. Type in Buell X1 and it will bring it up.

There have been like 5 Race headers on eBay in the last 6 weeks. Not all were identified as such, but most were. There are at least two on there today, one is an X1.

Thanks. Great news to hear, so I will just be patient and watch.

If there are some up there now then apparently I can't search or recognize a stock versus race header even though I found comparison pics here.

If you have the item ID it would be greatly appreciated.

Don't forget that you'll need a race header with an O2 sensor fitting if you intend on sticking with the FI. M2 race headers never had this fitting.

Well, the X1 one ended, the other X1 for $300 nobody even bid on. The remaining one is an M2.

Here's the comparison pics from the UKBEG web site (you should be able to guess which one is which!):

I have a race header on both my S3 and X1. The S3 has a D&D slip on for the race header and the X1 runs the race muffler from Buell(made by Supertrapp). The factory race system probably sounds best. The D&D sounds "BAD" and it is loud and raunchy but I like it. It sounds almost identical to the full D&D system that I once had on the S3. I've also got a custom made Drummer slip-on which sounds a lot like the race muffler with the race header. The Drummer works with the stock header. I like it a lot and may put it back on the S3 and then put the D&D on the X1. I think the best slip-on for the tube frames is the custom Drummer. The best all out performance system is the race header with the D&D muffler(no elbow). Race muffler is great but does need to be repacked periodically. The D&D never needs to be repacked. That's what I know...

Ride safe,

Frank.

Make sure if you do find the race header that it has the O2 sensor for your FI --

From their site: The price is $650 for a Drummer SS and $1,200 for a Drummer CF plus shipping.

That is for the XB. Nothing for tubers on the site. I did email them as they do custom work. No response yet.

Kevin charged me 350? He used my stock muffler, cut it open, worked his magic, put a "fatlet" on it and sent it back. I like it a lot. Frank.

Yes, very good link for pipes. Although I would've specified waiting to cool down before grabbing a pipe to see if it's loose.

Okay...

My take...

Currently running D&D Full system... prefer it over the Buell Race, and the Stocker..

I had the D&D Slip-on on first...

Then the race header with muffler, quieter, but felt better than stock..

Sold the race header and D&D slip-on to Prez about 1.5 years ago, pretty sure he made it work by trimming the race header collector a little...

I am MUCH happier with the D&D system... runs smoother even than the Buell Race.. and FEELS like it pulls harder...

So, take that for what its worth...

And sound.. the Race muffler had more of a "Classic" sound to it, great tone, and bark, without being LOUD...

The D&D... yeah, its DAMN LOUD... love it.. pisses off the people flapping their traps into their cells phone while driving...

Chase

It's really easy to modify a V&H SS2R slip-on to fit a Buell race header, if anyone is curious about trying it. Probably not the best for sound, though... the tone is not as basso profundo as the much larger (and much heavier) SS race muffler.

Yet another tuber-source evaporates...

We're victims of his success I guess.
Good for him, bad for us.
