Pissed off at Dudley Perkins again... ::sigh::

Can anyone recommend a decent dealer around San Francisco to do my major services?

Failing that, anyone know of a mechanic worth trusting with an M2?

Try Vallejo HD I have heard good things about their service on this site. Buelldynoguy from this board works there.

What's wrong with the M2?

Nothin' wrong, but I want a place to have major services done, and somewhere to have on hand if something does happen.

Plus, it's a '99 and I got it 2 months ago with 2,500 miles on it. That's less than 400 miles a year, it probably wouldn't hurt to have someone look over it.

It could also probably use a dynotune come to think of it, as it's got the carbon spam can intake and a Wileyco exhaust now.

Just wondered since there is very little that can't be taken care by the owner. About all my Cyclone needed was oil changes. I had the Wileyco also loved the sound!

Like I said before I have heard good things about Vallejo HD but I have never used them.

I have my 2000 S3 at livermore Harley/Buell right now having all of the motor gaskets changed (30000 miles). I'll post my satisfaction when it gets out on Thursday.

Hacksaw,

Yeah, I like to take care of most of it myself, but I typically bring the bike in for every other major service or so. It's just nice to have another set of eyes look over everything.

I'll have to break out the service manual and check when that one is. I'm guessing 10k miles or somesuch.

I also don't really have any idea how to jet the carb, so I think I'll just let them do it, especially if they have a Dyno.

I'm totally thrilled with the Willeyco. Now I wanna make sure the bike is as happy as I am!

Fitz,

It'd be great to hear what you think of Livermore when you get your S3 back. I'd really like to find a shop that actually likes to work on Buells.

The CV-40 carb and M2 are pretty easy to work on. An example here:

http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hd_cv_mods.htm#slide_detail

I did the #45 slow speed jet, and uncapped the idle mixture screw on my M2 and it made a miraculous difference on slow speed smoothness and warm up. I consider it an essential mod for M2's unless it is going to kill you with the emissions gurus or something.

Your's will probably need some attention on the main jet and maybe the slide with your air cleaner and muffler. But if you've been riding it like that and the plugs look okay, you're not too far off now.

The real danger in not doing it would be with too lean a high speed mixture and long runs at full or near full throttle. Get it too lean up there and it runs good but can melt holes in pistons.

That link above has some good tips on carb tuning for the CV-40's too.

If you like doing your own work for the routine stuff, get a service manual and parts book and it will pay for itself pretty quickly.

Vallejo is probably more into the buel culture and what needs to be done for a buell. thom, terry, do a great job there.

mcguires is committed to buells, and mike mcguire is a swell guy. they are very busy with harley work though.

Hey where in the Bay Area can you run at full throttle for more than a few seconds?

Oh well, I don't ever go over 5000 rpm anyway, much less full throttle...

Mines Rd, Wildcat Canyon, American Canyon Rd, bits of Redwood Road and Skyline... Dunno if you'll hold full "for more than a few seconds" but where do you do that anyway, unless starting from a dead stop or hitting the freeway? Count with me: One Mississippi, Two Mississippi, Three Mississippi, Four Mississippi...

That's a long time.

Anyway, these road give you room to run.

And then there are the plethora of trackdays availible out here...

I rarely ever felt the throttle stop on my M2, much less keep it there long. I had added a tach kit to it and was very happy with an occasional run through the first three gears using 4,500 RPM for a shift point.

I tried to find the rev limiter one day but was one gear too high for the amount of room I had. Ran out of space before I found it.

The 2000 M2, in theory, hits the 6,800 RPM rev limiter at 52, 76, 98, 119, and 140.

Buell work at dealers needs to be TALKED ABOUT AT THE DEALER MEETINGS. Seriously somebody needs to get the BALLPEEN HAMMERS out Hells Angels style and get these dealers to PAY some talented people to get the Buell side WORKING. Management can sit there in there $500.oo leather lazy boy and bitch all they want. Thats not going to get them great Buell techs like EVERYONE DESERVES.

Its not 1999 anymore.

2 1/2 weeks later my Buell is still @ Livermore Harley. I origionaly brought it in to have all of the motor gaskets replaced (30,000 miles) & the brakes blead. It took 5 days for the motor work to get done but bleeding the brakes did not fix my problem & they needed to replace the calipers (they also wanted to replace the master cylinder but I declined that part because the Master cylinder is only 3000 miles old). That was a week ago & the part has not came in yet. On a positive note, they seem real cool when I call them & when I brought the bike in I was treated fair & I diden't get the "Buell guy" treatment. When the bike is out I'll post my final evaluation.

OK, Livermore Harley update. I got to bike back. Mike did excellent work. He did everything on the work order & many necessary adjustments he told me about verbally. It's riding like a champ. I feel good about the $$ I spent there.
