I have a 2000 M2, that I begged and pleaded the p.o. to sell me, which he finally did. I got it with 17500 miles and and have added 4500 more with just routine oil changes and etc... But knowing the p.o. took such great care of the bike made everything all the better. Sanchez should have been aware of what he was getting into. If he wants to sell the bike I may be interested.

I saw the header cable above and thought I would show what my answer is.

I have the gaurd off the rear in this pic. But the bolt gose in and holds it.

Now this fixed a ton of headaches. But not a cure all.

Hey All, The M2 has been my favorite bike despite having more problems than the last 8 bikes I've owned since 1983 combined. I don't baby it but I don't ride like a squid either. There were alot of quality control/design issues and help from the factory was rare if any in the "old" daze. The XB riders don't know how good they have it! All in all I'll be keeping the beast for the same reasons as the rest of the crew, looks/handling/comfort. Speed doesn't interest me at my advanced age so for sport touring or a days worth of riding the M2 is hard to beat.

Odd about the hanger. I never could get a dealer to upgrade mine when it was free, so I just kept using it. It worked fine for 3,000 miles on the stock muffer and 25,000 miles with a V&H SS2R.

I have a race kit exhaust now and it's still using the stock hanger - no probs so far, but you never know.

All the talk about muffler hangers has me wondering. I have a 1997 M2 with stock headers and a Vance/Hines can. I have not changed hangers. Is there something I should do before I notice broken header bolts at the head?

I have 23K on my 96 S1 with the old style hanger. No broken pipes yet.
