Out of curiousity, I was wondering what "real world" ranges you guys were getting from your S3Ts on a tank of gas...?

Good to know on a bike with no fuel gauge.

I have a stock 2000 S3 (non-T) and always get over 200 miles before the low fuel light comes on. I just make it a habit to fill up when the trip odometer hits 200 miles. I've gone as far as 250 miles on a tank of fuel, but I coasted up to the pumps at the station that time.

With my 1998, I regularly get 200 miles before having to switch to reserve after filling to the bottom of the little rubber thingie... sometimes 220. I have no idea what I would get out of reserve... not interested in finding out!

Ditto w/ whodom, 250 is the outside max, and only then if there's no other option (Next service 55 miles). 200 is when I refuel whether the light is on or not.

267.(something) - probably would have done better but it was on the way to the 20th and I made it from Hamilton to Windsor in just over 3 hours. Real nice of the Canadians to post that road at 110 MPH, I never would have made it otherwise...

BTW, if you lean it to the left and shake it a little, it'll start back up and you can run/coast another 1/2-3/4 mile to the exit ramp. (The BIKE, that is.)

My 00 S3T gets 52 mpg. Just make sure you're filling it all the way too. I never see my fuel light, usually try to fill between 180-200 miles.

Which model years S3's have the "Manta" (or is it manta ray?) tank and run carbs? I'd love to get 200+ miles per fill up but my M2 has a lower fuell capacity.

thanks,

-Mike

thank you, 98 has the same tank also?

I bought a tank from the dealership's used parts sale, failed to inspect closely, just so excited by the price tag.

Anyway the holes are drilled different, injection vs. carb'd.

'98 S3T - Carburetted T-Storm (the finest combination : -) Regularly saw 400+km (250ish mi) before hitting reserve at 65mpg imperial - 52mpg US.

Not many bikes have that kind of range. No sport touring bikes, to my knowledge.

i just made it about 225 miles before hitting the reserve tank. It was all highway miles at about 80mph most of the way.

started out this morning having to switch over to the reserve tank, filled it up... then drove 113 miles to the other side of Florida to meet a really nice lady... Drove back the 113 miles and the bike needed to be switched back on reserve again at the toll plaza about a mile from my house.

Probably could have gotten a few more miles out of it before switching to reserve if i had crouched down behind the windscreen

About 200 miles before reserve with dynajet kit, 140 at best with the Yost tube (but the performance improvement was worth it). I will be installing a Mikuni this summer (hopefully it will give me the best of both worlds).

My 99 was getting about 52 mi/gal before I installed an intake and a race ecm. Now it's closer to 46. Really wish that the low fuel light gave me a little more warning.....
