First noticed it about a week ago, maybe two. It was one sentence but contained an apostrophe. It was not lengthy, by any reasonable standard. Maybe two lines. | ||

depleted uranium is the definition of lead. ie- lead is depleted uranium. | ||

Uranium does decompose into lead, but depleted uranium is not lead. It is the non u235 isotopes that is a byproduct of the enrichment process. Still cannot post an apostrophe.  | ||

Mostly Kindle, Silk browser. I've been able to post links, but not cut & paste paragraphs. According to the MSDS, Depleted Uranium is spent reactor fuel, chemically separated from the multiple nasty transuranics. Mostly isotope 238 and less than natural 235, radiation hazard low. Iirc, it's more radioactive than low grade ore, less than high grade ore, and FAR less than coal clinkers at the now long closed local power plant. That last observation is direct by Geiger counter, albeit a decade apart, using the same counter with fresh batteries on commercially available depleted Uranium powder ( nasty stuff as a heavy metal alone ) intended for a gyroplane rotor tip weight. Cast in polyester resin into a teardrop and covered/bonded to triaxial carbon fiber, & unidirectional on top. The rotor designer claims it can survive a 90 degree impact with reinforced concrete without hazardous materials release, at red line rpm, but the blade won't, and the tip might end up within a mile of the crash. However, vaporized by impact at anti tank artillery velocities, it's nasty. Keep: out ; of 'eyes & " mouth * don't inhale dust. If you worry about radiation, avoid coal clinker piles. And Russian submarines. | ||
