The carnivore or neanderthal diets are essentially ketogenic. Meat has fat in it, unless you are eating exclusively ultra lean meats like rabbit, deer, and chicken breasts. The problem with a pure meat diet is that we cannot store protein. What you do not use for tissue regeneration and fuel gets turned into sugar and stored as fat. If you include non starchy vegetables, leafy greens, and healthy fats - not from seed oils - you will tend to not eat as much protein to get satiated. This is healthy or clean keto.

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2023/04/env ironmentalists-want-to-make-their-religion-officia l.php

As a history buff I've known we're in a religious war for years.

A fundamentally dishonest religion is the enemy. The difference between authoritarian Leftism and the Greenies is just marketing.

The Elite, in this metaphor, is Michelob, the Greenies are Bud Ice, and you can guess who Bud light is.

But it's the same lying, murderous cult that kills hundreds of thousands of it's victims in a good year, and millions in normal years.

The cult depends on fools to do the tree climbing and road gluing stunts, while the Glorious Leaders fly their private jets to their yachts and beach front mansions, to eat Waygu beef & caviar.

Pat, can you link me to an article about ketosis and kidney issues? The only ones I can find falsely call keto a high protein diet and then go on to say that the excess protein is hard on the kidneys. Keto is not high protein, it is high fat, moderate protein, and very low carb. Protein is specifically restricted because any excess becomes glucose, which stimulates insulin, which prevents fat loss

googled ketosis and kidney problems, and this was the first up.

https://www.mytpmg.com/the-keto-diet-helping-you-l ose-weight-or-hurting-your-kidneys/#:~:text=In%20a ddition%20to%20increasing%20your,already%20have%20 chronic%20kidney%20disease.

YMMV. I'm a "throw a bandaid on and go see your doctor" type, not an internal medicine specialist. Not a bad choice if you have minor bleeding, but not who you want to prescribe anything.

I will say I was told last week by a Kidney Specialist to stop taking Ibuprofen. We called it "fighter candy" in my martial arts group, and I've done my part keeping the stock up.

My OPINION is if you have a healthy kidney, you can get away with a lot more than if you've damaged it.

As the article above says, we don't have enough long term studies on the Keto Diet to quantify how bad it is. You might be fine, but not me. OTOH, I might never need a Vitamin D pill, and you might. Individual differences.

I've been told by multiple nurses and doctors to not go "full keto" and stick to a "traditional" low carb diet.

But we probably both remember the "Food Pyramid" of our youth, which is now considered a recipe for diabetes and obesity.

Hey, if it works for you, great! use your best judgement, and don't be afraid to change your mind if the science shows the way.

I spent decades doing "stuff" ( bicycling, soaring ) that others considered crazy, and to my eternal amusement, I often rode with guys much more skilled and fearless than I was. ( who I considered crazy ) I loved technical singletrack mountain biking. A buddy can jump from fence post to fence post. Not something I'd ever try. Ditto, for example, snow skiing. Double Black Diamond trail? Sure! Backflips? nope.

You do you.

I'll also TOTALLY agree on getting a reasonable amount of fat in the diet. Reasonable is a variable.

The low body fat types? A lot of models seem a bit drifty, you need fats for brain function.

And both Hugh Jackman & Henry Cavill talk about dehydrating dangerously for shirtless scenes. Some actors & bodybuilders have permanently harmed themselves going for the look over the function.

And You have to love how Bacon is now a health food!

Btw, by seed oils, do you include nut oils?

You're probably more studied in diets than I am.

The psych aspects I think I have a little insight from martial arts, so I don't recommend giving up everything you like. Depressed folk are not healthy. I do keep tiny chocolate bars in my diet. I'll do a small mcfries occasionally. Just not the large.

I used to get the thirsty giant Mt Dew...

And I've got some family that "eats too much" so I try not to comment, evangelism can be boring.

I have one in the family with a fatal illness, who I suspect is trying to eat himself to death. He can't, or won't, do most of the other things that brought him joy, and I'm not going to interfere. It would not help, anyway, short or long term.

Me? Try unplugging me, and plug me back in, see if that works. My lifelong dream of being shot by a jealous husband jumping a fence at a hundred, isn't going to happen. I can't jump fences anymore.

Re the link, it appears to be another one that mistakes what a keto diet is. It is not all bacon all the time, just like a high carb diet is not all french fries all the time. Eating a variety of foods is essential. With keto, you lose magnesium and other minerals because you tend to not retain water. Keto flu is caused by mineral loss during the first few weeks as you burn off glycogen, which is mostly water. When you flush that water, the minerals go with it. Which is why it is important to eat leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables when on a very low carb diet. You can avoid keto flu by taking potassium and magnesium supplements during the transition, by the way. And the low energy experienced by some is not due to no energy, it is a mineral deficiency. Keto is the diet our bodies evolved on. We had no grain, no potatoes. We had seasonal berries, which are low carb. Sugar is poison, including the sugar in fruit. Fructose does the same thing to your liver that alcohol does.

Regarding oils, avoid anything not cold expeller pressed. The high heat and solvents they use to extract corn, soy, canola, etc. hydrogenates and oxidized the oil. Then look a the omega 6:3 ratio. Most seed oils are almost entirely omega 6. Canola being the exception. If you can find expeller pressed canola, it is a good option. I found some on amazon, but did not purchase. You can find charts online, including for nut oils. The only seed oils that are ok are flax and chia.

Omega 6 is an inflammatory oil. Your body needs omega 6. Omega 3 is an anti-inflammatory oil. Your body needs omega 3. They key is the ratio. it needs to be close to 1:1. Seed oil consumption screws this up. Metabolic syndrome can be traced directly to this imbalance. Rheumatoid arthritis too. I could not make a fist three years ago. My arthritis has vanished. It really is remarkable. The nutritionist are mostly wrong, having been educated on the upside down food pyramid.

But... I'm supposed to eat the diet of a Roman peasant! Said so in school! ( sarcasm )

Thanks, I use olive oil for cooking, or peanut oil for deep frying, ( although not for years, got an Air fryer for Christmas and haven't had the Fry Daddy out since. )

Long live Butter!

Thanks again. The Omega fatty acids are only a small part of diet, typically, but obviously important. ( Oxygen is only 21% of air... )

Learning good stuff...

Anecdote.
When I was growing up in South Dakota, the dairy lobby got a law passed about margarine. It came uncolored, with a food color packet you had to knead in yourself to get the butter yellow color.

You can understand why I'm skeptical about diet fads.

I once, when bored, watched an entire 30minutes+ commercial on fancy olive oil. The doctor/entrepreneur was selling his Northern African farm olive oil, based on the idea that harsh hot climates created the ideal mixture of ( insert magic chemicals here, I don't recall ) and thus the farm/plant he'd invested money in to improve Quality and profit had the super olive oil I should buy.

Probably good stuff, I didn't doubt his claims, ( I did look up some of them, but, that was years ago ) but also saw no need to buy HIS super duper oil, when there was a lot of producers in the harsh climates he touted that didn't charge 20 times the regular price like he was.

He also was into drinking it in shots, and called for a ridiculous, to me, consumption level. ( I use a pump sprayer to lube my fry pan )

I suspect I'm not the ideal customer...

https://www.sciencealert.com/were-about-to-enter-a -solar-maximum-an-expert-explains-what-to-expect

More Chinese spy balloons?

Solar flares and coronal mass ejection are periodic realities. And like all periodic realities, they aren't as regular as our "put things in boxes" minds think. ( the 18th & 19th century science is a LOT of putting things in boxes and making order out of complexity. We still have that attitude, it's probably natural for our pattern seeking minds. )

So, when we have periodic phenomena like Ice Ages, which we believe are tied to orbital mechanics, they might not be as regular as human clockwork. Especially when we don't understand the triggers. The entire Global Warming Scam is based on a hypothetical trigger WE are pulling.

My guess is Ice Ages are a typical "hang on the edge until pushed off" phenomenon like an aerodynamic stall or laminar flow from a faucet. We don't know yet. ( according to the last half million years of measured cycles we are on that edge, now, probably )

But other periodic events simply aren't. They are statistical estimates and human pattern perception.

Like Supervolcano eruptions, "every 700,000 years" is actually pretty rough. They have come in clusters, and how the release of pressure interrelates is very complex, I assume/hope the survivors of the next one get better data to define the guesses. ( could be next week, or thousands of years )

Asteroid strikes are another widely misunderstood thing. There's a multi planet gravity tug of war between rocks in space and that makes it period on period on period... Ever changing tugs, with Jupiter's alignment with the other gas giants acting like pumping a playground swing. Pulling rocks and comets into plunging orbits that intersect ours.

Impacts are thus periodic, kinda. More complex statistics than most, and... Pattern seekers.

Another very common misconception is that "old stuff like comet strikes don't happen anymore" mostly based on short term and tiny mind thinking like " I never saw it happen so it doesn't " & "there's no written down witness accounts of a strike that killed every land animal, so it never happened".

But mostly I see the silly assumptions that the age of big impacts is over. Nope. Still a lot of rocks in the universe.

The study is complete bull shit. Red meat does not cause diabetes. Insufficient whole grains does not cause diabetes. Grain causes diabetes. The difference in insulin response to whole grain vs. flour vs. sugar is marginal. Whole grain just spreads it out, keeping insulin high for a longer period of time. Insulin is the body apostrophe s response to a fatal condition called high blood sugar. There is a misconception that carbohydrates are the preferred fuel because we use it first and fall back to ketones. We use it first because if we do not produce insulin to clear the sugar we would die. Sugar is poison. All carbohydrates except fiber and alcohol become sugar in the bloodstream. We evolved on a very low carb and natural saturated fat diet. It is how we are meant to eat. Diabetes and metabolic syndrome are directly caused by carbohydrates and highly inflammatory omega 6 oils. Eat like your life depends on it.

Oh, the Chinese have supercomputers. I don't know if the company building the suicidal car do.

I have a conspiracy theory for you... God King Xi banned bitcoin mining. Makes sense, private scum getting rich using Government subsidized electricity.

And the price of video cards with the miners buying them all annoyed me, although I doubt Xi cared.

So now there's thousands of relatively cheap video cards in China that can be plugged into a massively parallel supercomputer.

Coincidence?

Sure, Tesla looked ahead and saw that the Occupation was going to cut electric power generation as a vital part of it's "you're all insects! Mwa ha ha!" Fundamental Transformation Program. So the relatively cheap massive parallel video card machines would have serious power availability and cost problems. Thus the Exopod revolution.

But that doesn't apply in China where they will probably build more coal fired boilers for power in the next decade than exist worldwide, today. Especially since the Party will get the "you want your children to live?" discount.

Given the massive increase in super duper computing China will build this year will be dedicated to Party Purposes, mostly surveillance and Social Control, I wouldn't worry about Tesla rip off competition in the near future.

Yes they have supercomputers, but none built specifically to analyze video. Tesla has the only one in the world. You are undoubtedly familiar with asic processors and the advantage they have over a general purpose cpu.

Mostly mass.

Power consumption, as you don't have extraneous circuits.

Maybe speed, as you have fewer miles of light speed delays.

Higher development costs. There's a reason so many projects use an Ardino board. It's Lego to electronic guys. I know guys making fuel injection computers out of those. And running light shows for Holloween/Christmas.

But, the first 2 make a big difference for the Tesla custom chip machines, or arguably the second 2.

Cut a few miles of bus out of a processor, and thousands of processors, you get real savings.

No lol it has to do with performing functions in hardware versus software emulation. A general purpose computer can do lots of things because it emulates hardware in software but that makes them slower. Example, folks mining crypto use asic processors that only do one thing which is cryptographic operations. Sure you can use an x86 or nvinia with its thousands of cores per die, but those are still not as fast as asic.

The Tesla training computer is built, in hardware, to analyze video. By hardware I mean the physical instruction set that is baked into the chips, not something that has to be loaded in memory.
