I am familiar. You are apparently not familiar with the meaning of ‘conscript’. Mandatory military service means that the soldiers are conscripts, and poorly motivated. Look at their performance against a much smaller, more motivated, force. Lots of people are going to die. Russia is having trouble arming the soldiers they already have in theater. | ||

But they are trained. And they are motivated because of they fight the nazies. You are talking about trouble arming the solders but it looks like you have no idea that those soldiers you are talking about are not Russian army, those soldiers are army or the eastern republics (AKA militia). It was not really retreat, there was nobody there except a few small groups of militia retreated under pressure of big group of nazies. Russian army does not cover the whole territory and uses mostly distant weapons. That's the reason Russia mobilizes 300000 troops, to be able to cover bigger territory. And travel is being denied to males 18-65. Numerous reports of draft dodgers being arrested and "funny" scams, like advertising a phone number to call to get out of the draft that actually is the office of the military call up. ( calling identifies yourself as both a fool, and like taking a subpoena, that you got your orders to report. ) It's not funny to be a Russian Subject today. Every male is supposed to serve a year in service, getting trained. Apparently training and education is minimal. And probably years ago. And mobilized troops, according to Putin News, get a 2 weeks refresher, maybe mostly marching and lectures on how the Commisars will shoot you if you try to run. I doubt, but don't know for sure, rumors that groups are sent to the front without officers. (Presumably to keep the draftees from fragging officers ) And rumors that older tanks are being issued, T-62 series ( 1960-70s ) this time. Russia had enormous numbers of 1950s T-55 tanks in depots, but apparently with no Budget to maintain, and funds sent, stolen by corrupt politicians and officers. So if there are tanks older than the T-62s showing up, it's a bizarre combination of desperation and probably a miracle that they run. And area targeted spam texts telling Russian cannon fodder to surrender, you'll get fed, and when Putin's War ends, allowed to escape to Europe, a better deal than they have now, and less dying. Cell phone communication and geo-locating by phone data and posted pictures may be more important than drones in Ukraine today. | ||

They work. I've seen a few videos already of teams of "police" and illegitimate " referendum pollsters" doing "mobile voting". Meaning a 4 man/women team come to an apartment, beat on the door, force under threat of death people to sign something, and move on to the next crime. And the armed and armored Occupation Soldiers write down who doesn't obey orders to "vote" for being conquered/annexed by Putin. Also Putin TV agitprop of "ballots" being dropped into clear plastic boxes without visible Mark's in the cartoonishly large "choice" boxes. It's not a free vote. It's obviously even less honest than a Democrat City Election Official. Could the multiple door camera videos be fake? Sure, by all means be skeptical. Is there any doubt that people in the Occupied territories would vote to join the country that bombed them, killed their neighbors, and conduct a door to door poll on who to round up for another mass grave and fun time torture session? | ||

After 8 years Kiev bombed the eastern republics I am not surprised 98% the people of the eastern republics voted to join to Russia. Well, even if Kiev would try to solve the problem peacefully and people of eastern republic would vote to join to Russia there would be probably more than 80% of votes for this move because of more than 80% of people live in eastern Ukraine are Russians or have relatives in Russia.
