Ok people, I need some input from the collective. I have lost my EDC pocket knife. For years I carried a Benchmade MiniGriptillian. It was perfect for what I needed. Not to big to carry but big enough to do any job I needed.

I haven't kept up with the market place and wonder if there are something else out there that would do the job better. What do you carry and why.

I carry two knives, Benchmade and Buck. Benchmade Barrage or Rift in my right side pocket, and a Buck Vantage Pro or Spitfire in my left. I keep the Benchmades as tactical folders, and use the Bucks for everyday kind of tasks.

If you liked the Griptilian, get another one. They have been upgraded over the years and come in a wide variety of blade metals and colors.

Mine had the partially serrated blade with the coating on the blade. My first thought was to just get another one but it's been a while so through I'd see what all the knowledgeable people here would suggest.

My older son has a Barrage but that's a little big for my taste.

Zane, they make a Mini-Barrage you might be interested in. What ever knife you choose, please buy a made in the USA one. Kershaw has some nice made in the USA knives as well. A Leek or Scallion might be up your alley.

Crusty, I carry a Leatherman Supertool as well. I love it, comes in handy.

I also carry a magtac flashlight.

A Benchmade Bugout or Mini-Bugout would be a good choice as well.

Any solid USA lock-blade that holds an edge and has the quick flip open tab works for me. A serrated section nearest the grip is handy for heavier cordage or plastic ties.

I keep losing mine, Kershaws they were, easy flip open design is so nice; can’t see not having that on a pocket knife, but now like Crusty have been relying on my old Leatherman Wave.

Some of the less expensive Kershaws are made in China. No thanks. I’ll pay double happily for made in USA!

I've been carrying a Benchmade NRA knife for many years. I lost it a couple of years ago so I replaced it with a Spyderco with Damascus blade and titanium grips. Loved this knife! The edge would last longer than the Benchmade and I liked the feel of it too. Then I misplaced it!! Before I bought another one I get a call from my racing partner. He was vacuuming out the tow vehicle and found a Benchmade knife in the truck. The seatbelt had slipped under the pocket clip and pulled the knife out of my pocket and then slid down the belt. It stayed there for over a year just letting the belt slide through the clip! So the Benchmade is back, still a great knife. I'm still hoping the Spyderco will show up some day!!

Been on the Benchmade website this morning looking around. Of course the Mini Griptillion still catches my eye. I also really like the mini Bugout. Right size, right shape and comes with serrations. Just a touch bigger that the Mini Griptillion. Gonna have to think hard about that one.

I really like the Mini Barrage too but think it might be a touch bigger than what I like. I'll need to hold one to know.

I've gotten 'lost' on the Benchmade web site a few times looking at all their wares...

They no longer offer a custom made Griptilian or Barrage. Bit of a bummer for me. I've been wanting a custom Barrage for some time now. One with a black coated M4 blade, black G-10 scales, and blackout hardware. But at $280, I'd been waiting until I had the spare funds to make it happen. Oh well.

I dropped $70 on one of these SOG knives earlier in the year. I kept it about 2 weeks before it disappeared around the time I made a trip to the trash dump. I suspect the same thing that happened to Greg’s happened to mine, only it fell out of the truck.

I figured I’d go with a much less expensive alternative for a replacement, and got one of these Gerbers for ~$30. It’s fairly tiny, but with decently sized pliers, an array of tools, a good blade and a really cool blade specially for opening those indestructible blister packs.

dime

I’ve been pretty pleased with it.

Yeah, I lost more time that I should have on the Benchmade website. I was floored by the prices though. I bought my mini griptillion about 7 years ago and it was only $110 and it had the serrated 1/2 blade and the black coating on the blade. Now they're $160 to start.

I really like the mini bugout. I think the mini barrage is a touch to big for me. It's a beauty though

I'm gonna go to cabela's later tonight and fondle a couple of knifes.

Benchmade Barrage with serrated blade. Daily carry in 3 1/2 inches (legal on Military bases) and one in ~ 4 1/2 inches. I see that neither are available any longer. I have stories about slicing burned test UAS aircraft pieces off of Mojave Airport's runway after a literal crash-and-burn. The fire crew only had a snow shovel to scoop up wreckage and they needed to start an edge to get their shovel underneath to pry the pieces off the runway so they could re-open the airport. I use it for opening packages, cutting cardboard gun targets, scraping adhesive off of refractory bricks - and yeah, I keep it sharp and the blade isn't pretty but it does everything I ask of it.

Sorry you lost your favorite, but great thread! Everyone should show off what the have on their belt or in their pocket…I know I feel naked without a blade on me!

At work it’s a Milwaukee folding replaceable blade utility knife, had the same one for for 5-6 years
Other times it’s either a 4” Gerber folding or a 4.5”Kershaw folding, both straight blade, I DONT like serrated blades…

Everyone has their own needs and like/dislikes. Our everyday carry knifes are such a personal thing.

I wanted to go to Cabela's tonight but in Arizona it was Primary voting night. That was more important.

I normally carry a Columbia River M16-10 KT, (Guaranteed for life, but not against loss).
My wife's brother-in-law called me a few weeks ago. One of his in-laws had passed and in cleaning out the estate garage the family found a huge collection of knives. Many were Chinese made reproductions of TV and Movie blades and " ninja stuff" you find in a comic store, but there were a few pretty decent ones too. I bought a half dozen Kershaws 1300 series, and a few low buck imitations of the CRKT M16, because I know in time I will probably lose most of them.

Funny, just last night I was wondering why no one had mentioned CRKT. Made in the USA, decent blades and a lot less money than Benchmade (maybe Benchmade blades are THAT much better? )

I’ve owned and carried several CRKT M16 knifes. Regular, tanto, straight and serrated edge. IMO they are great for EDC, not too big but not too small, a little on the narrow side so doesn’t dominate a pocket.

Sadly, I too have lost every one and am also between knifes so I’m following along - great thread!

So when did everyone get their first "adult" knife?

As a kid I carried cheap folding knives. I worked in truck stops and machine shops and for a couple of years in autobody repair shop. I didn't get a real quality knife until I was about 30. Got a nice Kershaw with an about 3 inch inch blade. By then I was working for the sheriff's office and needed a good blade. Once I went into I.T. I didn't want to carry a big blade so got a small one inch blade folder. Went into my pocket and disappeared.

In my tool box at home I had a K-Bar that my brother brought home from the Nave (he was a Navy diver). I used it as my dive knife for years.

It wasn't until my kids got into their late teens that I found out about Benchmade. I've carried one ever since.

So I pulled the pin on a new knife last night.

I went to Cabela's, Sportsman's Warehouse and Big Five Sporting Goods. I got to handle several nice knifes. I liked the Benchmade Bugout but it was was to thin in my had. Loved the Mini Barrage but it doesn't come with a serrated blade. No one had a Mini Griptillian with serrated blade so I came home and orders one off the internet. Black with a serrated blade and coating on the blade. $137.11 with tax and shipping. Should be here first part of next week.

I promise I'll try not to lose this one.

The steel in the blade is CPM-S30V. Really tough and does a great job of holding an edge. I really liked several knifes but the Mini Griptillian just feels best in my hand and is the perfect size for what I need.

Down the road I could see several of the suggestions here in my pocket

My Buck Vantage Pro is in CPM-S30V. I love it. Not too exotic, makes a great EDC knife.

I have a Benchmade Contego. Talk about a large folder, it has a full 4" blade. It is a purpose built tactical folder, Benchmade discontinued awhile back. The one I have is semi-rare and has gone up in value since I purchased it. Being too big for most EDC use, it's a collectable for me at this point. It's never been worn, and just sits in it's pouch, in it's box.

I would own my weight in pocket folders alone if I had the finances lol!

I like that Bailout.

I called Benchmade today to see if there were any Black G-10 scales for the Barrage left for sale. The lady I talked to was very nice and friendly, but said No, all they have left that can be sold were the black volux scales. Oh well, worth a shot.

There is a guy on Etsy that makes scales out of micarta for $62. I might go that route...
