This is pretty interesting: https://claremontreviewofbooks.com/who-broke-clima te-science/

"the IPCC’s fifth assessment report in 2014 (AR5) “has only low confidence that the global warming of the past thirty years has exceeded the range of reconstructed temperatures [of the last 1,400 years].”"

The professor discussed at the beginning seems a watermelon like so many of them, green on the outside, red in the middle.

Yeah, maybe NASA shouldn't doxx the planet?

I love the meme that shows the Pioneer space probe plaque. With the caption "please stop sending us unsolicited nudes and directions to your house, it's creepy".

Three quarters of the forests catching fire is real climate change.

Looks like good aurora year(s), skywatchers enjoy.

The loss of satellites and the power grid might be a downside, but like meteor strikes, that's inevitable, just with unknown timing.

Wouldn't hurt to spend some money on improving the resistance to power surges in our SCADA controlled systems, like trains, pipelines, power grids, & the internet. Otherwise we'll spend it fixing the broken systems with far fewer taxpayers.

It's a stretch to call this terrorism, but not by much.

I'll skip the expected macho bs about not coming to my house and messing with my property. For one thing, Never Threaten Anyone. It's a crime. 2. Never Threaten Anyone. It's evidence in the murder trial and bumps the charges from homicide to First Degree Murder. 3. Never...

I hope you get the idea. This isn't a joke. This is criminal conspiracy to use crimes that typically slide under the radar as being not worth a busy law enforcement agency's time and effort. Like throwing fake blood on a store front that has "animal products".

This Adbusters "organization" claims to "speak truth to power" while declaring "slap a climate denier day".

They also deny government funding, which I speculate means they are funded by Hydra. ( the Soros multiple front shill sponsored Antifa/Media/Destroy Western Civilization groups )

Because they speak the language of "Lie for Power", Establishment Support while pretending rebellion to look cool and boost their own self esteem. Group Think Propagandist.

I'm not a Climate Denier. I post frequently about Climate change and the huge changes it's done to past civilizations. The Pueblo ruins, Petra, Carthage, the Medieval warm period, the Dark Ages, the Age of Exploration. It's a subject I've been interested in since the Coming Ice Age theory/Agitprop of the late 1970's.

https://www.sciencealert.com/18-000-years-ago-the- zealandia-switch-decimated-earth-s-glaciers-has-it -returned

I'm in the "catastrophe" faction of science. Change happens in jumps & jerks. Volcanoes meteors tsunamis, quakes.. Super novae, all happen abruptly, not gradually. Stresses build, balance, then snap. Evolution, as it seems, doesn't produce medium necked giraffes. : )

It's obvious from the fossil records that climate shifts happen with lightning speed on a geologic scale. You don't usually get a human time scale reference in paleontology, but recent discovery of tektites in fish gills in a disaster pile up of mixed fossils shows sudden change is the normal pattern. See April 9 post on dino killing impact.

We don't have a human record of the beginning of the latest Ice Age. It's probable that there was a "year without a summer" as seen in 1816.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_Without_a_Sum mer

Then it just got worse. The feedback loop of snow cover & albedo is obvious. Greenhouse gas changes? Comet strike? Alien overlords disgusted by the petty humans? The trigger is still a mystery.

Consider an advanced technology civilization using biofuel and fossil fuels in combustion engine having a Green movement that dropped the CO2 level under a critical point. Sudden famine and unrelenting cold wrecking "Atlantis" and the weight of the ice sinking the biodegradable cities beneath the waves. Scattered bands of humans fighting for scarce resources in the ecological disaster of the narrowing now barely sub-arctic former tropical band.

maybe There's a flying car in a cave buried in some jungle that runs on Crystal Power. Let me know when you find it. Whatever was before the Ice scraped it into dust, is lost to us. A Great Reset.

I don't know about the zealandia switch, if it's like El Nino or other ocean current oscillations, it's a bigger and older phenomenon than man.

So far.

It's possible that a mega scale engineering project could make big changes. After all, you can blame the Sahara Forest on sheep herding, a man made eco-tragedy. A mega project to pull energy out of the Gulf Stream, freezing Europe? Putin's spasm war with high altitude nukes spaced for maximum forest and brush fires triggering Nuclear Winter? The possibilities are staggering.

It irritates me when authors claim the ice age ended ten thousand years ago. We are in an interglacial period of the current ice age. Someone claiming to know so much about climate should know better.

There's a difference between the facts, and the kindergarten version most people believe.

I agree with you but wonder if editing just cut "since the last glacial period" down to "since the last Ice Age".

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2022/04/17/fake-news-w ind-tops-coal-nuclear-for-first-time-in-us-history /

Sorta fake news. For One Day in a carefully selected area in the U.S., with low demand and high, but not too high winds, Wind power Did beat the conventional power output.

Ironically, if the winds had been stronger, that wouldn't have been the case, that day, as the brakes would have engaged to keep the whirling death blades from breaking.

We have nice weather here and high winds, so it's possible we've had seconds at a time where wind exceeds gas & coal power production. But we have a Nuclear power plant that supplies the steady power.

Figures don't lie, but liars figure like crazy.

Saint Greta sailed to the U.N. In NY on a private sail yacht. Must have been fun. The crew change was flown over from Europe.

I greatly enjoyed the How Dare You diatribe against the U.N. Bureaucrats and the rich & famous that came to watch the 15 minutes of fame.

Unfortunately it was a paid commercial by the sponsors of the Greta Show, who sell wind and solar farms, so after the hook we got the shaft.

It looks like both Solar and Wind are more of a pollution problem than they try to solve, both the strip mining with zero F#%&$ given about the Environment and people, and the massive fuel burn to produce, ship, & install. That might not be the case, but since anyone who tells you otherwise seems to profit from it, and has a long history of dishonesty, your guess.

I wish just eliminating the fraud & cult insanity would completely solve the problems, but even godlike powers, or better an intelligent education campaign and system, ( which will take just as apocalyptic an effort as ending the Climate Con ) leave us with Real pollution and energy problems to solve.

Every compact, energy saving, modern electric motor, your windshield wiper motor, the E-bike I want, the heat pumps... Almost all use rare earth metals.

We need more power generation to charge all the Electric stuff. Feel free to argue, but take the terawatts we substitute for fuel & apply any efficiency correction factor and it's still more power needed for the grid.

So we do need to invest in better solar and maybe wind turbines (developed before WW2 ) & of course, batteries.

AND reduce the pollution from making our civilization.

Unfortunately that core truth was hijacked to sell you on letting a self selected Elite rule you and steal your wealth/labor/property.

You forgot end-of-use disposal. A single windmill blade is oversized on a tractor trailer; they fill landfills up FAST.

This sounds like a conspiracy. I leave to you to guess who profits.

Windmill waste? Oh, yeah.

Had a great ride Sunday with a couple friends, and passed acres of chopped up & wrecked fiberglass blades stacked 2-3 stories high. I should take a selfie. ( I almost never do ) The Biden* tax on peasants and progress means that 90 octane no-booze is $5 a gallon, but the lovely back roads in the Southern Tier of NY take some sting out.

It occurs to me that the hundreds? of abandoned windmill towers could be an American version of British Victorian Water Tower homes. They all seem to be in lovely country settings with incredible views, and no rich people mansions in sight. Talk about Exclusive bragging rights. Acrophobics need not apply.

I could see paragliding or ziplines down to the garage to go shopping. : )

A double story hexagonal platform and 360 degree view? You'd want an aerodynamic design to reduce sway. Flying saucer shapes.

Nope.

And they don't stay buried. They rise from the grave like rocks in a farmer's field.

It's a not insignificant engineering challenge to design an incinerator to safely burn the epoxy resin and recover the glass. I won't even speculate if the waste treatment takes more power than the wind turbines produce over their short lifespan.

They DO offer an opportunity for a second attempt at artificial ski hills. Unlike Mt. Trashmore, turbine blade piles shouldn't spontaneously catch fire. : )

It's really simple. The price of oil is set by traders in futures markets. It's not how much you have in tanks scattered around, it's how much will be available tomorrow and next month and... THAT'S what they place their bets on.

So when President Bush announced he would change Executive Orders that limited future oil shipments, the price went down. More supply, lower price, simple.

When Joe* announced he would change Executive Orders to limit future oil, price went up. Less supply, higher price, simple.

In neither case did one drop of oil move anywhere.

You can argue Bush didn't do anything except talk and sign a document, it was the huge army of hard working oil company truck drivers, drillers, and others that did all the work. True, but they needed paperwork passed through the political system to be allowed to.

Biden* announced those people who do the actual work were not going to be allowed.

The switches thrown, the valves turned, the holes worked on, all are affected by the decision process from the top.

Yep, thanks, there's so many aspects of the, you know, the thing!

& Speaking of Kleptocracy...

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2022/05/sel lout-to-china-in-progress.php

You can consider the buying of resources by the CCP as good business sense. The business is Domination by the most evil men in history, but it's going well.

If you're too busy to read the editorial, the mines for the minerals used in modern stuff is being bought out by the Chinese Army. ( the sign may say Institute of Peaceful Progress, but that who it is )

This sounds like Hippie B S, but one solution is using Appropriate Technology.

A non - electric car, built without rare earth elements in the electric motors may weigh a hundred pounds more & get less mileage, but it can still be a good car. You still need copper, steel, and oil, but you can use less efficient wiper and window and water pump motors and be viable.

Electric bicycles, & flying machines are going to be heavily impacted. You might not be able to load the bike in your car, and drones & planes won't fly, without rare earth elements.

Windmills? Eagle slaughtering machines won't be as efficient, you'll need heavier masts or get far less power from existing designs. ( If You really are against pollution you don't want the short-lived things anyway )

Solar? Less efficient means more square miles to cover for the same output. Doesn't change the panels not producing at night or when snow covered or it's cloudy.

I've already ranted on how stupid it is to use high density Lithium tech batteries for ground based power storage. You don't use AAA rechargeable batteries for your sump pump, You use lead acid and don't care what it weighs.

In cars, vehicles, you need the more dense power storage. The Electric Mustang ( already a SUV) would be heavier than a F-450 and have the range of a 1980s unsellable Popular Mechanics cover story. Remember the wedge shaped balsa and fiberglass body on a golf cart chassis that was The Future? You can't build that today. The balsa wood is too expensive. ( that's not a joke )

Luckily the Nickel in my Rav-4 battery is mined in Canada, which despite the current dictatorship, is still technically friendly, but it's processed in China. So your electric toys and tools will only double or triple in weight. Your ear hair trimmer isn't so bad. The chain saw might get impractical.

So, ultimately, life won't end when the CCP cuts us off over Taiwan or ( next decade? ) Siberia and Alaska. It's just going to be 70s convenient and Solylent Green or Detroit poor & dirty.

Unfortunately the Plan from the CCP & it's White House employees is to end the fossil fuel ride in 8 years. That's possible, If You accept a massive amount of poverty and a few billion starved to death. That's the Practical analysis.

The Political viability depends on keeping the CCP sponsored government in power, indefinitely. You have to assume crazy scenarios like AOC replacing Harris* after her resignation for Covid reasons, and mandatory internet voting, but that's possible in a world where a half dozen Russian Oligarchs and a few more Hillary associates just "Epsteined themselves" last month.

Speaking of wood...

The homebuilt airplane guys are discovering the price and availability of airplane grade Spruce is a Problem. So they are taking 1930-70s wood designs and adding carbon fiber tubing and fabric to available wood for wing spars. Yep, carbon fiber is cheaper than premium wood.

2 takes on the Greenie Disaster in progress.

1. The people that don't want you to eat meat, and claim love for animals, demand that millions of cute furry mammals be murdered to reduce by a tiny fraction of a degree, the chance of improvement of climate in the more polar temperate zones. That is assuming the predictions from people who's predictions have never, afaik, been correct, are accurate.

2. I'm reminded of an old radio show commercial. "We at Monolithic Oil company, are killing all the birds around our oil refineries. Birds eat food and food takes energy, to grow. We at Monolithic are doing our part to save energy. .... "
