Reportedly there are now viral videos showing Ukranian soldiers kneecapping and otherwise torturing Russian POW's. Many on social media are dismissing the videos as Russian propaganda, but others are saying "yea, so what?".

This will result in bad very bad things if true.

Russia has reportedly shipped 400,000 Ukrainians into Russia and is forcing them into slave labor. This too will result in bad things if true.

It's real ugly over there. Truth from fiction is hard to discern at times.

Russia is still the country that invaded another.

In the movie Arrival, the Sanskrit word for War is translated as "A desire for more cows".

The aggressor is the Bad guy, unless it's me, or they convince me otherwise.

Take all "news" as probable propaganda.

...it's all propaganda after filtering through the editorial and censor system. ( doesn't have to be the Gestapo open police state, We have the corporations that run Disney and Fox and Facebook and... Same result, you get what they want you to see. )

Bad times and too much suffering. Pray for everyone, bless you all.

OK... re-post alert. It WILL happen again... just punnin' here, youn's. And I WILL get called a socialist/communist again. Punnin and funnin. Not pootin. EBeaatch likes to liken me to Hegel... I have always taken that as a high compliment. As I have studied philosophy and "liberal arts", I do hope to contribute to the general conversations here on Badweb... despite my colorations, often blue, if youns will have me.

I have daily listened to the news on Ukraine... let us all pray that this conflict ends as soon as possible.
Bless those in the midst of war, all pawns, expendable in this world to evil, but priceless in the eyes of God.

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2022/03/putin _and_his_high_command_reportedly_have_moved_to_sec ret_bunkers_as_threats_of_nuclear_war_escalate.htm l

Probably just a sensationalist headline to sell papers.

But I do Remember the Maine. & what happens next.

If you were Putin, or the father of an 11 year old child, would you trust Joe*?

Putin is a Professional Paranoid. He has people poisoned, and properly fears retaliation and coups. That's how he got his position and wealth. ( arguably richest guy on planet )

Joe* is recorded in his stage fake offices, ditto Putin. Joe's* may be in the basement, Putin's in a bunker in Siberia, what's the difference? ( several meters of reinforced concrete )

Am I seriously afraid of nuclear war? This week?

I don't know how to answer that. I grew up in primary target areas. I play "Duck & Cover" for the turtle cartoon. I'm not exaggerating.

I lived in the apartment building at the End of the runway at the former SAC headquarters at Offut. ( no uncracked plaster there, with B-47 & B-52s taking off & landing 24/7 )

I worked at Redacted where the Russian nukes were aimed to kill our Optics industry. To be precise, company HQ was a few miles from the military optics facility at Redacted, and the ultra fine grain spy camera film facility was a few miles north of that. But according to the Dept. Of Defense We had 8 multi megaton missiles aimed at us, and the zone that would be a shallow glass crater covered all three complexes if we got a direct hit from just one. And with 1990s Soviet circular error probability, that was unlikely. One could just as likely hit my house 35 miles away. That's why they had Eight aimed at us. The shotgun effect of multiple multi megaton craters had a pretty fair shot at shutting us down. And killing a few million innocent civilians. Then many more as the fallout swept downwind from the firestorm.

So I have a fair appreciation of the results of getting nuked.

I wasn't worried about it much when the previous administration was butting heads with Putin. Deterrence is in the mind of the enemy. If you think you won't win, or at least can't escape the consequences of aggression, you play the Game of Thrones with assassinations and bribery, not columns of troops. ( as Putin has. See Hunter Biden laptop evidence ) If you think your enemy is unwilling to stand up to you? That's different.

And Vladimir was outright TOLD he could get away with invading Ukraine in Crimea by Barry the Weasel when Barry requested on hot Mic that his good friend Vladimir hold off until after Barry was reelected. So he did.

This year Joe* outright SAID ... "It's one thing if it's a minor incursion and then we end up having a fight about what to do and not do, et cetera," Biden said Wednesday.

"But if they actually do what they're capable of doing with the force they've massed on the border, it is going to be a disaster for Russia if they further invade Ukraine."

The interpretation might be "don't invade so big we have to actually respond." A pretty bull $ hit policy imho. Putin interpreted it as "I'm going to bluster big but NATO & the U.S. isn't prepared to stop you". Which, obviously, was a fair read on the situation.

That doesn't factor in things I don't have solid data on. I don't know how the bribery/blackmail aspects with the Joe* Family worked in Putin's thinking.

Don't confuse the thinking on when to Invade with the apparent incompetence of Putin's military leaders at maintaining his army.

The good news for the West, is there are few to none working for Putin who dare to tell him his army is badly equipped to supply and fight. No one wants to be sent to guard polar bears on an arctic island, or be shot in the basement at Lubyanka.

The bad news for the West, is when things go badly, panicked people may lash out in desperation.

Putin has no place to go if he loses his power. Hide in Obama's beach mansions?

I think the Joe* regime is messing this up in detail and in general. But it's not a rerun of the 1930s. Hitler might have changed course if the British had bombed Berlin during the invasion of Poland. But he didn't have ICBMs.

And IF I was running an apocalyptic war plan to conquer the West, I would save the missiles for retaliation & blackmail. I'd nuke the enemy with propositioned bombs in containers so there's zero warning and deniability.

I'm not the only person who reads spy/political novels.

Well today FNC is reporting that there have been mass executions.

FJB is calling for Putin to face a war crimes charge.

The pics are horrific, My favorite is president Zaleski in gear out surveying the damage. the report indicates that this was a mass execution of about 1,4nn civilians

Hey Joe, how about you let the Ukraine have the mig 29's from Poland and we provide Poland with F16's

if we had a real president and not this retread POS we would be doing more to help
We did sign a document that said we would help. FJB - FBC - FBO

Sting had it right quite some time ago. When he broke up The Police, he went on to do a LOT of great work. Reference "Bring On The Night". You will not be disappointed. The music is fantastic... but the award winning video is NOT to be missed. It is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen.

https://spectator.org/biden-handlers-shut-him-up-a nd-shut-him-down/

A Lot I disagree with in this editorial.

That Joe* and the Obama 3rd term Staff are being stupidly "provocative" in giving Vladimir propaganda tools is more than obviously true.

And the bs with Poland seems to show Joe* is a Putin Puppet, with dementia so he keeps going off script.

My question is...

Do we Dare Not stopping Putin by Any Means except WMDs used on civilians?

I reject any mass destruction attacks on Russian cities. The subjects of the Putin Empire may have bought into the Agitprop used to justify the War, at least some have, but this isn't a populist demanded war, like the Spanish American War. It's all Putin and his minions.

If not stopped, Putin will keep going. Every former Soviet Slave State is at high risk of conquest. ( Europe to follow, if Vladimir lives long enough )

It looks like there have been serious setbacks in Putin's drive to enlarge the Empire to it's Soviet size, but this could be a really long war. Years, if not decades. ( the Cold War went on for literal decades )

But the mass murder and destruction continues, and the setbacks are so far just a tiny slice of time in progress. What next week, or month, brings is unknown.

This mess is in many ways a cosmic irony take on WW1. Conflict with interlocking alliances by treaty, betrayals, sides chosen, and an irrational belief that it will be over soon & everyone will be home for Christmas. ( nope )

A better analog is the Russian-Japanese war of 1904-5.

Russian Minister Vyacheslav von Plehve in reference to the Russo-Japanese War: "What this country needs is a short, victorious war to stem the tide of revolution."

Yeah, no.

For a slightly humorous take on part of that disaster I suggest the following 2 videos from a Brit Naval History guy.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9Mdi_Fh9_Ag

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BXpj6nK5ylo

The End result was Japan showing the world it was now a peer to the European Powers, a big change in Naval Strategy, and the acceleration of the fall of the Russian Empire into a hellish slave state in the middle of WW1.

Pretty much downhill and the second most murderous regime ever, on a planet that doesn't lack for genocidal history.

Putin is Stalin's successor as he was the Czar's. I'm skipping multiple steps and brief moments of hope for freedom & jumping to the Big Bads, I highly recommend learning about the ignored parts to have context.

Please think on the question above & comment.

One more point. You hear "the people get the government they deserve".

* Putin's Agitprop is that Ukrainians are all Nazis or enablers of nazis, so they must be murdered to stop the Infection.

* The Republicans that question the Biden Regime are terrorists.

Time to address that First Lie above.

Did the vast majority of Russians vote for Putin to go to war? No, it doesn't work that way. There's no proof the majority voted for Putin at all.

The last several Presidential elections in the US didn't have a majority of The People vote for one candidate, since many don't vote. It's about who bothers to vote.

There's no proof the majority voted for Biden* at all. ( as evidence was destroyed )

So, no, the People Don't get the government they deserve. They get one imposed upon them from the Aristocracy, ( the Party, the Deep State, any number of names for the entrenched Elite ) until & unless they risk all to stop it. And historically, typically, are murdered & lose. The U.S. is a rare case. Over 200 years ago.

Why May 9? Does that mean I don't have to get my bike inspected for the post apocalypse world? Or will Putin declare victory?

Take the following with Extra Salt. This is the Jeff Bezos Agitprop division of Amazon and Censorship. Still, even a stopped analog clock...

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/04/08/ho w-russia-botched-ukraine-invasion/

I note with historical interest that some rear area Russian troops have been photographed with 1891 rifles. ( built into the late 1940s, and still an effective if obsolete battle rifle )

More importantly, this War should go into a sequel to "Carnage & Culture" VDH's excellent book on battles through time between slave soldiers of God Kings vs. Citizens defending Civilization. ( really good read! Highly recommended )

The lack of a professional non commissioned officer cadre in the Russian Army is very important to understand their problems.

In Western Armies, the Noncoms run the show on multiple levels. From the individual squad, to the highest levels, Commissioned Officers make decisions, and the Noncoms carry them down the line, to the small unit level. Without the Sergeants to make the detail instructions, in Russia it's junior officers.

In Western Armies the junior officer is considered a person to be obeyed, yes, but also a trainee under the guidance of the seasoned pros. The idea is officers pass orders down the chain, expanding the detail as it goes, ( Generals just say, "send the 101st to take that objective" & which sub units are used is decided by Colonels, and so forth ) the second Lieutenants are platoon level and not supposed to micromanage, but to keep a broader image of the mission. ( there's a lot of jokes and wisdom about the larval officers, going back to before Rome )

Without the Noncom backbone, junior officers have to micromanage the troops. That effectively slows the OODA Loop and reduces efficiency.

I'm never going to be a fighter pilot. ( glasses, attitude, & now age ) But as a glider pilot I'm familiar with Energy Management, ( albeit slower : ) ) and as a martial arts student with the idea of the OODA loop. ( observe, orient, decide, action ) Momentum of troops in trucks is a more complex thing than the momentum of an airplane. More moving parts, more choices, but the physics is just as unforgiving.

With the change to a known butcher and already claims of WMD use, expect much worse civilian casualties and deliberate ruin of Everything.

The good news for Ukraine is Putin's minions seem to have stolen the clothes, rations, and weapons Putin's troops need to live. The Bad news is Putin feels he has to win or he'll be murdered as he murders his opposition.

He is right.

The problem WE have is some powerless nobody like me can point out that the best solution is "getting rid of" Putin. No big deal. When the supposed President says it, it's pushing him into a corner. Don't corner vicious animals!

Videos seen lately show NOBODY is allowed near Putin except a tiny trusted cadre. Any "photo ops" will be with strip searched adults and hostage children. That's not Paranoid, that's a logical appreciation of risk for a mass murdering criminal. And that definition of Putin long predates his war today, or 2014, or Chechnya.

The odds Kiev will be nuked or nerve gassed as horribly high. And cities like Paris and New York are hostages to his threats.

Unfortunately no enemy would destroy D.C. since it's their best ally at destroying us.

From Instapundit

APRIL 12, 2022
JOE BIDEN DID THAT: Inside wartime Russia, Putin isn’t losing. “Russian shoppers can no longer buy many Western products or use certain payment methods, and many goods they can buy are now more expensive thanks to the sanctions. But they don’t blame Putin, says Yana, a journalist in Moscow who asked that we not use her last name.”

I’ve argued from the beginning that sanctioning Russia’s civilian economy was a mistake.

Russians have a long history of enduring any hardships brought on by the enemy.

Instead of waging economic war on Vladimir Putin and his cronies, we’re waging it against the Russian people — so they’re treating us as the bad guy instead of Putin.
