There's some pundit noise about the WHO skipping the next letter in the Greek alphabet to avoid offending the Glorious Leader Xi, who's name in English letters is the same. The Chinese is different and so is the pronunciation. .... just listen to them online.... I have zero doubt someone in the WHO decided not to offend a major nation's leader with a similarity that lends itself to big nasty headlines & jokes. That's just courtesy. It's also possible the WHO leaders are cowering minions of the Evil Xi. I totally get that view after they appear to go along with every blatant lie the CCP puts out. It's also possible the WHO leaders just want to preserve access to a hostile nation that's often the origin of plagues. That excuse sounded like Bull when CNN used it in Iraq, parroting Saddam's propaganda. But it makes sense to compromise to keep getting some crappy data instead of none. A judgement call. My bet on motivation is a combination of courtesy, compromise, and fear. Xi might well choose to have the WHO personal arrested and buried in anger. So, ignore the pundits on that trivia.  | ||

The latest mutant seems relatively mild for healthy adult men in South Africa. Keep in mind that's relative to the Alpha version that's killed a huge number this year. We don't yet know if this new version will be an "old folk" killer like Alpha or Andrew Cuomo. Best bet is yes, since the flu and other "mild" infectious diseases killed more old folks than young in the Before Time when we just treated diseases as medical problems and not political excuses. I'll ignore, just like the Establishment Media, that Just Joe* is imposing travel bans that he called Trump a racist for. It didn't work for Donald, it won't for Biden*. Remember the barn door analogy? By the time you know there's a plague, it's too late to stop it. That was true in Roman times too. They had a revolutionary road network, we have airlines. Both really helped grow economies and sped plagues along. Omicron Pooh's Breath is already in Israel and the UK, so it's already here. I'd bet 5$ the first cases are reported this week. Went to the doctor today. Talked a lot about Covid. He's a great doctor. No bullshit, just the truth. Told me he recommends the vaccine for me, but won't push it on me, says it's completely my choice. Told me there is nothing in my medical history that makes the vaccine unsafe for me, but that there is always a tiny amount of risk in taking any vaccine. Told me I have a strong immune system, that my weight is his biggest concern. In the twelve years I've been going to him, I've only been 'sick' due to cold/flu once. Talked about Omicron. He's says what's on the news is B.S. The strain was only discovered three weeks ago, there is not enough real data on this new strain to be sure of anything. Told me the media can not possibly know what it purports to know. He then went into detail about the virus, mutations, spike proteins, etc. He lost me along the way, but his knowledge seemed pretty deep. He told me viruses are kind of his thing, he'd been studying them in depth for a long time, and at one point considered making that his specialty. Bottom line he said is that the entire thing has been handled wrongly. Mismanaged completely and that the media is making things worse. He's set to retire in the next year. I'm gonna miss him. I can only hope the youngster that will be taking over for him is half as good. | ||

The good news seems to be Xi's Omicron should be prevented by the Chinese vaccine which used whole viruses, ( I don't know the details ) which means immunity to a larger range of mutations because you get multiple sets of patterns for the immune system to detect. As opposed to the spike protein jab. Ah, well. That's how research works. We now know spike protein vaccines are stupid, and that mRNA vaccines work, and are, so far, surprisingly safe. ( but spike protein vaccines are not so safe ) Logically, we just include updated broad(er) sensitivity vaccines with the annual flu shot, and just accept the CCP-2019 Plague and it's offspring as normal as the common Cold. Might have to convince politicians to stop trying to micromanage a world beyond their control. Might need antimatter. We'll see if Xi's Omicron is nasty once we have a few million cases. I'm cautiously optimistic. | ||

That seems to be true. But it hasn't hit here in mass numbers yet. So we think, but don't KNOW yet, that it's basically a bad cold for middle aged and younger. That part seems likely solid. Kids, probably too. The Old folk are more at risk, no matter what bug you talk about, so I'd bet it kills some of us, and I ALSO bet that gets front page headlines, even if, as I hope, Xi's Omicron is less lethal than the usual flu. ( as Xi's Alpha was more deadly ) Because you & I are almost certain to get it. Hopefully we'll barely notice. The reported symptoms, severe fatigue and a mild cough, are pretty much normal for lots of us over 60. Especially smokers and heart disease patients. ( which together are a LOT of people ) If course, if it kills me, feel free to mock me.  | ||

He trashed his voice from coughing up phlem, and otherwise is feeling fine, as is she. Neither say it was a fun ride. We're hoping for a typical December "Indian Summer" day to get one more ride in this year. | ||
