Very interesting

"COVID-19 is just another type of flu-like respiratory disease, that is only appearing terrible because doctors and hospitals are incorrectly labeling many deaths as COVID-19 when in past years they would have labeled them based on the existing chronic illnesses the patient already had."

No surprise there.

Unfortunately.

Now to just get the word out, and stop this lockdown bullshit ASAP.

I find that study puzzling. Very skeptical about the conclusion.

While most people I knew who died had preexisting conditions, not all did. The plague is real, if thankfully not as nasty as predicted 10 months ago.

You can conclude that isolation, masks, hand washing, and Jeff Besos becoming a quadrillionaire all contributed to saving thousands of lives that would have been lost to the flu and venereal diseases in a normal year. Have to be a Lot of lives saved to balance suicides, strokes and heart disease and cancer death increases because of reducing access to doctors.

But it's a consistent and logical conclusion. How accurate??? Dunno.

The new, let's call it, Riot Wave, is absolutely real. One family I actually know who got sick did so after visiting family out of state.

One very at risk lady ( chemo ) who moved in with her children this spring. was exposed this month, apparently by the baby sitter taking care of the grandchildren.

I can speculate, but without contact tracing I don't know if it's Antifa or Wal-Mart that's the likely vector.

Just because we are tired of tyrannical arbitrary Governors and Mayors who Rule by Emergency decree, doesn't mean the Riot Wave shouldn't be treated with better hygiene and proper caution.

Morally ambiguous rant on stakes and Vlad Tepes deleted. : )

So... wear masks at any gathering of strangers. Safety first!

The plague is real

Real? Yes.

"Plague"? Not so much.

Unless by "plague", you mean something that can harm 4 people out of every 10,000 who catch it (that's what a 99.969% recovery rate means); something that is most likely to produce NO symptoms at all; something whose most lasting effects are a few weeks without taste or smell.

"Plague" would be the OPPOSITE - it would leave 4 people ALIVE out of every 10,000 who catch it. Catching a plague WOULD be a death sentence.

This...is not that.

proper caution. Safety first!

Yep. Don't want to contract something that's so nasty we need government oversight, and cellphone snoopers ("voluntary contact tracing"), to keep track of all the people who catch it and NEVER EVEN GET SYMPTOMS BEFORE THEY RECOVER COMPLETELY.

Think about that for a minute. This virus is so scary that a symptom track isn't enough to follow "all the damage" it's doing. We have to test everyone, and use artificial tracking methods, to see where this virus is actually going...because there is NO trail of bodies. NO trail of people calling out of work. NO trail of cities becoming ghost towns.

A plague would be obvious, and unavoidable. A plague would have zero requirement for "contact tracing", because if you "contact" someone who has it...they'd die, and soon after, YOU would die. That, is a "plague".

This...we have to CHASE, in order to see where it goes, because most people who do get it show ZERO symptoms. And, they have the nerve to recover completely. On their own. With no medication.

Ya.

It's a scary one.

It hasn't even made a blip on the annual death count for the year, compared to the last five years.

I'm willing to bet if we picked a year - ANY year - and singled out a disease - ANY disease - we'd find equally "horrifying" numbers of people dying that year (where's the perspective in the news? 200k "covid deaths"...compared to....how many cancer deaths? How many heart disease deaths? Compare it to pre-covid years, please - years where the death count hasn't been co-opted by re-classification, thanks). But...you can't "lock down" and seize power, from heart disease, or cancer - they're not communicable diseases, so politicians can't do anything to benefit from those. So, no sense tracking all THOSE deaths. Yearly flu? Nobody will be scared of that - we've been living with that for decades. Generations. So no horror there.

Wait.

Let's create something that we CAN use as an excuse, to terrify and subjectify all our citizens. Transform them ALL from "citizen" to "subject". Claim absolute power over them.

Let's take a page from Stephen King, and create a "superflu"! <cue> Yeahhh....THAT's the ticket...!!

This virus doesn't scare me.

What scares me is how we've allowed ourselves to be bent over by politicians, and handed over complete control of our lives...for no reason at all.

What will the next excuse be?

How far will the next overreach try and go?

How far will we LET it go, before we stand up and say "enough"??

More importantly - why have we been so stupid as to let it get this far, this time?

My Governor seems to have murdered at least 14 thousand people with your "Nothing".

Sure, all of them were going to die eventually. All of us will.

But I'm certainly more scared by politicians. They are the #1 cause of death on the planet, if they embrace the Marxist cult of Power By Any Means Necessary.

And since that cult lies, by necessity, preference, and creed, ( see their Holy Text by Alinsky ) I'm all for skepticism about anything they say.

But a plague it is. Unleashed to stop the protests against the God King Xi, or escaped the lab by negligence and greed, it kills, cripples, and has cut a swath through the population. Less than 5% of Billions is still an apocalyptic end for the dead, and plenty of them.

Have tyrants used this as an excuse to throw away any restrictions on their power? Sure!

Hypothetically, if we'd protected the elderly and otherwise simply followed the recommendations of the President, we'd probably be in better shape, as far as # dead, the economy, ( obviously ) & the suicide rate. But he didn't impose "lockdowns" ( on the prisoners ) he ordered fast track testing & tax money to be spent on vaccines.

Vaccines for a real plague that needs technological real solutions.

Now, if you insist the Governor's Emergency Powers ( and the promised Federal Authoritarian Rule by the Harris/Biden* presumptive ) are a far deadlier threat than Covid-19? I agree.

But to be honest, I have long feared authoritarian leftists far more than Ebola.

Ebola killed hundreds! Thousands over the years.

Vs. Hundreds of millions in countries all over the planet, in less than a century. ( pegging the date at 1917 makes it a bit more, pegging @ 1924... )

Covid-19 is far deadlier than Ebola in terms of spread and deaths. Not even close in the "get it and die" category.

So? It's not Captain Trips.

And like Ebola, Covid-19 can be avoided. But to avoid Ebola, generally you just don't go to where there's an outbreak. With Covid-19 that means stay home and sanitize every item you have delivered.

And that doesn't help with tyrants, they send masked thugs to break down your door.

wear a mask to your revolt, eh? ; )

My Governor seems to have murdered at least 14 thousand people with your "Nothing".

Your governor locked susceptible, UNhealthy people, IN with the disease.

What do you expect? What did HE expect?

Pull the numbers. How many MORE people died this year, because of that...than in the last 5 years?

The difference?

This year, it was sensationalized. Labeled. Focused upon. So it seems worse than...."before". Is it actually worse? We don't know, because nobody is looking at those numbers. Nobody is gaining that perspective. We're all simply...taking it.

And, nobody is giving any frame of reference. 14,000 folks, statewide, in nursing homes, compared to.....what? What was the number last year? What's the number of normal deaths? How about a per capita number, for some perspective? Absolutely, 14,000 is a tragedy...but 14,000 out of 20,000? Or, 14,000 out of 14 MILLION?

Ratios matter.

Death is death, yes...but ratios matter. A LOT. 4 people dead, sucks. 4 people dead out of 5? THAT'S scary, and it deserves attention. 4 people dead out of 10,000? Not so much. Still sucks for those four...but YOUR chances of being one of the four is greatly decreased. As is mine. As is the guy you work with. And so on.

Just like - wait for it.... NORMAL, EVERYDAY LIFE.

This is not a "4 out of 5" plague. Not even close.

Remember when hospitals were going to be overwhelmed? Javits was turned into a triage center? Comfort sat in the harbor, waiting for patients (and death) that never came? How about the projections of "millions of dead Americans" by July 4?

Yeah, I remember those threats, too.

Hmm.

I personally know three people (one, two, three - they can all fit on the front seat of my truck, together) who have been diagnosed with the virus.

One, totally asymptomatic. Only knew she had it because she got a test, after her mother tested positive.
One, the mother (early 50s), felt like she had a flu - upset tummy, aches, temperature - and she lost taste and smell for a few weeks afterwards. She is on medications for a couple of chronic situations, and easily the most susceptible of the three.
The third, had sniffles for a couple days and a slight temperature for 24 hours.

What that tells me? 1- this is NOT a "global thing" that is "going to get all of us no matter what you do and no matter where you go". I know a lot of people. I work with a lot of people. THREE of them have had it (that know about it; no telling how many asymptomatics are out there in my circle). 2- if you DO get the virus? It'll feel - for 99.969% of us, anyway - like "normal" sick. "Normal" flu. Temp. Sore. Aches. Upset tummy. If you get any symptoms at all, that is.

Why am I supposed to cower in fear, again?

Beyond all this - why don't any of us have a choice? If you WANT to mask up, go for it. If you WANT to close your business, go for it. If you WANT to lock yourself in your house and live off DoorDash and Amazon, go for it. That is your right, and your choice, and you do what is right for you.

But stop making that decision for ME.

For a "free" country, we certainly have bent over and taken it from our "leaders". No fighting, no discussion, no arguments, simply...acceptance.

Resulting in zero free choice about any of this.

Max of 6 people in your OWN GODDAMNED HOME for the holidays???

Yeah, that's a free country alright.

It's time to wake the hell up, to reality.

"going to get all of us no matter what you do and no matter where you go".

yes, just like the common cold. Oh, not 100% of us, this year, but eventually every human on the planet will be exposed. Several will die. Out of billions, thousands! Like a bad flu year.

Assume this is an engineered virus. Aimed at the old and the ill. It was released/escaped at the perfect time to stop the counter revolution in China and it seems designed to solve their economic woes of supporting the elderly.

I have no proof of that, but it fits the facts pretty good.

And although I'm old and ill... : ) I'm grateful it wasn't the horror that a disease that killed babies and young children would be. ( you have to wonder if that vial is in a freezer in Wuhan )

4 of 5? No. 4 of 100 would be closer. Perhaps an order of magnitude less. ( Seems to be in that broad range, no matter what numbers you use. )

It's hard to hit the balance between reasonable caution and over reaction. As far as disease goes.

It's easy to see the difference between reasonable advice, preparation, and support vs. "Obey Me!"... Easier anyway.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go eat leftovers.

What scares me is how we've allowed ourselves to be bent over by politicians, and handed over complete control of our lives...for no reason at all.

Not in my town.
Here, the mayor and city council created an ordinance that allows all those restrictions to be mandated by the Health Dept administrator.
Oh, they presented their reasoning - quicker reaction to current testing rates sticks in my mind. But the reality is that they have abdicated their responsibility to legislate to an unelected SINGLE person.
So, while the state supreme court shut down the State DHS mandate earlier this year (properly IMHO), our overlords locally decided to codify it instead.
I'm reminding everyone that complains about the 25% restaurant capacity, permanently shuttered local businesses and closed schools that these jackholes do need to run for reelection.

But the reality is that they have abdicated their responsibility to legislate to an unelected SINGLE person.

The NY Legislature did give Imperial power to an elected SINGLE person for 14 months.

I can see the motivation. "I still get paid, I still get paid for the Committee, ( bonus pay comes from being on Committees, You Earn that by obeying your Party leaders ) I don't have to work, except Zoom meetings to keep leadership happy, and I don't even have to go to Albany, where I either pay for a hotel room or rent an apartment. Win Win. It's not like I actually made any decisions, anyway, the Party Leaders do that."

And complainers are just told "Covid!". It's SOOOOO Convenient.

On a lighter note, my son Cody is better.
My granddaughter, is getting better.
My daughter-in-law seems to be the least affected, it was like she had everything all at once.
So I'm relieved.
Read into it what you will.
The facts are, they were very very sick.
The hospitals and staff are way over worked, and because of the current situation, there are no interns.
My son and his wife are overweight, and my granddaughter is under 3.
They each were at the doctor's 3 times.
My son is going back to work Monday.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Very glad to hear you and yours are doing OK, Glitch.

"Read into it what you will.

I read into your statement that you and yours have been fighting COVID-19.

For the morons who've said "Ohh, this'll all be over after November 4"... I suppose they're the ones who've been predicting Armageddon all these years.
I don't give a damn if you're RepubliCan't Believe Nuthin' or Democrappin' Mepants, if you're not operating from a base of reason, REAL facts (such as your local health officials, or word from REAL LIVE friends and family in healthcare), stay the hell away from me. COVID-19 is real, and yes, F(*CKIN' yes, it is a real threat.

I and mine are in the high risk category. I found out last month that just like my Dad, I've got heart disease. If you have some political beef about wearing a mask, tough shit- **MASKS WORK** TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF DISEASE. Just DO it, to respect others, PROTECT others, and by God, yourself.

Man am I looking forward to 2021. Hopefully soon we'll all have proper inoculations, with absolutely NO SHIT GIVEN as to whom your doctor voted for, only the proven efficacy of said vaccine.

One thing we're ALL going to have to develop, to culture within ourselves and with one another, is Faith. Then, by God's grace, Trust. If we keep allowing all the media Harpies free reign, without listening, without fellowship with one another, we're doomed.

Yeah. Just use common sense. A elderly man I work with is in contact with the public daily. His wife gave him covid recently. You can take all the precautions you want.

Anyway...I feel it's all a bit overblown. Our overall death rates are pretty stable...and still less than they were in 2016.

Apparently from the NYT:

"The standard tests are diagnosing huge numbers of people who may be carrying relatively insignificant amounts of the virus.

Most of these people are not likely to be contagious, and identifying them may contribute to bottlenecks that prevent those who are contagious from being found in time."

Duc - yup. Casecountcasecountcasecount....it's a drumbeat of horror for these people. Never mind people like Glitch's family, who recover just fine, as if from (gasp!) a common cold.

Because the common cold IS a coronavirus. But, we can't publicize THAT because it would ruin the narrative, and the horror, and the voluntary oppression.
