Why don't we take the counter revolutionary protesting over to the pound social distancing thread?

That leaves this one for point!ess arguing about inaccurate guessing models & projected fatality rates. : )

Which are 100%, for every mortal, given enough time.

As to the ongoing dispute...both "sides" seem to have points. All I ask is kindness to one another and perhaps a thought that one might be being overly critical or nit picking.

I think we all agree...

that Pooh's Breath is worse than the usual Chinese flu. Probably, almost certainly not as devastating as the 1918 pandemic. ( which killed vast numbers of younger, working age people )

There are treatments and drugs that show promise, but only time will tell which is best. And my experience shows clearly that a great drug for one may not be good for another, and vice versa. That's relatively new medical thinking we far as mainstream establishment medicine goes. One size does not fit all.

I, personally, thank the deities of my choice that this plague hits old folk & not children hardest. Despite being old, it just feels worse to watch kids suffer. That's emotional, and feel free to disagree.

Some panic prone folk are going to drink drano because of a Facebook post. I Think of that as evolution in action. Again, feel free to consider that hard hearted, cynical, and a bit cruel. Each of those fools will have people that love them. I'm not that proud of my attitude, but I also don't deny it. ; )

Hey!! Ed, we're in agreement!! ; )

FB- we're all good. I just had the thought... I'm working to be more kind to my fellow peeps, and I've noticed more of that sentiment in general nowadays.
We may always argue over various and sundry things, but let's hope we can work towards a more kind, caring and civil world.
FWIW, me and M just got back in from a brief run to K-Roger and her old workplace for a few things... GOD I hate wearing masks! My old responses from growing up with asthma come right back. Thank God I grew out of asthma in my 20's, but I still have the visceral response whenever I think of breathing difficulties.
This COVID19 scares the living hell outta me.

Everyone, be smart and safe. Here's looking forward to our next big biker shindig, hopefully sooner than later. Lord knows I/we could use a game of Firepit Jenga...

Funny ...... 6 months ago if I’d have walked in a gas station wearing a mask with a Sig in my belt ..... they’d have hit the silent alarm.

Now all I get is “cash or credit, Sir?”

We are certainly living in interesting times.

As much as I appreciate Geffen's work, this bothers me.

Original link:

https://www.npr.org/2020/04/15/834247954/the-rich- really-are-different-they-can-shelter-in-nicer-pla ces

The coronavirus, we are sometimes told, is a great equalizer, preying on both the elite and the ordinary, the well-heeled and the downtrodden.

"It doesn't care about how rich you are, how famous you are," Madonna assures us in her latest video, sitting naked in bathwater laced with rose petals.

But being rich sure does let you ride out the pandemic in much more pleasant surroundings.

Hollywood billionaire David Geffen recently told his Instagram followers that he was hanging out in the Caribbean to escape the virus. He hoped everyone was keeping safe, he wrote.

For good measure, he included a picture of his 454-foot super-luxurious yacht, the Rising Sun, apparently shot from a drone.

630 people are talking about this
"I think tone-deaf is an understatement. As many people noted, this is an individual whose net worth is reportedly $8 billion," says New York Post columnist Maureen Callahan.

The backlash was ferocious, with thousands of ego-shredding comments pouring into social media. "This is just shameful and grotesque," tweeted Meghan McCain, co-host of The View. Singer John Mayer even wrote a song called "Drone Shot of My Yacht."

Geffen quickly deleted the post and took his account private.

The social media pitchforks also came out after TV star Ellen DeGeneres told a joke comparing life under quarantine to being in jail. The problem? She was telling it from inside a plush, well-appointed mansion — one of several she owns.

Episodes like this underscore a central fact of the current pandemic, says Paul Piff, assistant professor of psychology and social behavior at the University of California, Irvine.

Rich and poor people are experiencing it in much different ways.

People with money can escape the virus more easily, Piff says. It buys them social space. They have large apartments and second homes, and they're more likely to have a job they can do from home.

Working-class people, by contrast, depend more on public transportation, where they're at greater risk of contracting the virus. They're less able to afford to stock up on weeks of food and supplies. And they're more likely to have service jobs that need to be done in person.

A New 'The Office' Comedy For The COVID-19 Era?
"They almost necessarily involve social contact. Who is it that's delivering your food or driving ride-shares? It's the people who don't have the means to do otherwise," Piff says.

Indeed, some evidence exists already that working-class neighborhoods in New York City have been hit much harder by the pandemic than wealthy areas.

Piff, who studies the psychology of wealth, says nothing is really unusual about this. Some people have always had means and others haven't.

But at a time when the ability to separate yourself from the crowd is literally a life-and-death issue, it's probably not a good moment to show off your yacht.

Well, I won't argue that she's a dizzy bitch...but they are all on recess, after all, to "flatten the curve".

Nevermind the fact that the REST of the economy is trying to make due with remote/mobile/telecommuting, but Congress for some reason can't seem to make that work...

Looks like now, they MIGHT be back to work May 5.

I say, they forfeit all paychecks until they get back to work and ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING.

I still say we should pay ALL Federal elected officials on a commission scale - the nation and the government makes money? So do the representatives. Deficit? No pay. So sorry.

The single thing that has taken us from “citizen legislators”..... to “professional legislators” has been money.

When folks could take a job that paid $150,000/yr ..... work for 4 years and suddenly have a net worth of $10,000,000 it changed the types of folks and the nature of elections ...vying for those offices.

You can now add “getting elected” to “rock star” and “viral YouTube” as ways to quickly amass wealth in America.

I look at the Clinton’s and Obama’s. . . . . Both folks of modest means prior to entering office..... and the huge personal wealth they’ve amassed and it underscores how the swamp became the swamp.

Just a thought ....

What do you think Climate Change is all about. The swamp has investments in solar, wind and any other type of weak replacements for oil. If you get rid of oil/coal then their investments pay off. The swamp are the biggest abusers of "insider trading" that there is. Nobody seems to care.

https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/04/coronavirus -testing-will-reveal-much-about-virus-lockdowns/

No matter who makes the decision and where they are, the U.S., Turkey, whatever, there will be a new spike in cases, and thus deaths, when they chose to "allow" people to go back to work. You can bet on it. How big a spike depends on how much people keep wearing masks and keeping some distance.

The bulk of new cases will still be in nursing homes and clusters fed from young idiots who go to crowded parties. NO MATTER WHEN OR WHO IS IN CHARGE.

RD,

The before an after picture of flights is extremely deceptive without even watching the video.
Not sure what part of the globe the "before" shows but it is not what the "after" shows which is the Iberian peninsula and the British Isles.

This would be more representative. Be aware that as flights are slowing down in Europe they are picking up in the Us due to the time difference.
It is a real time representation.

WOW, simply wow. Two posts without watching the video. You do realize you are judging the proverbial book by the cover? Perhaps a peek at the video would show what is compared to what.
