Many years ago I used to walk past NYC's oldest hat store on a daily basis and eventually got suckered in and came out with a beautiful Stetson bowler. Pleased as punch with my purchase I went into a deli, picked up a bottle of Guiness Stout, a hard boiled egg and a copy of the NY Times and went down to Washington Square Park to read the paper and have lunch. I open my beer and start to see what craziness is going on in the world at large and I feel a TAP! on top of my hat. Looking up, what do I see but a pigeon's ass right above me. Where is a shotgun when you need it?
My hat collection got destroyed in a flood many years ago and due to a recent heart attack I've been put on blood thinners and can now feel the cold like everyone else. Time to buy a hat (or 15). Here's one I picked up on CraigsList which was owned by a Scottish gentleman who would only take it out on special occasions like when he wore his kilt. It's a Lock & Co. Town Coke hat in perfect shape with the box. For anyone who cares, Lock & Co. is the one who created the bowler and it's built like a tank.
I do enjoy a good hat. Currently, my hat collection mostly consists of baseball caps and tooks, since they're the only practical thing to wear at work. I often find myself lying on the ground, climbing underneath lab equipment and anything with a real brim would have to be taken off and on constantly.
I've been casually eyeballing some nicer hats lately, and the bowler type hat is on the short list.
Hats? Can’t stand them. I do occasionally wear a floppy brimmed hat to keep the sun off of my balding head and I hate it the entire time. Hey, you asked.
Google Paladin San Francisco hat. May fit into the notch you are looking for. I have considered one, but don't really know when/where to wear it, or what clothing would go with. And they are not inexpensive . . .
I was always forced to wear a hat at work. It was a ball cap with a plastic liner inside to act like a bump cap. They were really hot in the Summer. Therefore I rarely wear hats. The only other time I wear a hat is when I'm riding my motorcycle. With the inevitable helmet head, with what's left of my hair matted to my skull, I like to just put on a hat when I stop. I found that ball caps get pretty mangled during transit so I've since opted for a flat hat. They work well and you can't deform them! When it's really cold I do wear an Irish patch hat. It came from Ireland and is wool and warm.
I like them myself, mainly ball caps but occasionally something different.I've been on the hunt for a Paperboy hat. I hate ordering hats that I can't try on first, not many hat stores in Dahlonega.
This place is going out of business so if you're looking for a new hat, maybe take a look: https://www.hats-plus.com/
I had to grab a fur felt Stetson Sutley from them the other day before they sold out in my size. I needed a fedora with a good sized brim (but not too large). My grandfather said my old one, which had a larger brim, made me look like a Hassidic Jew, ha, ha.
As if my wallet didn't get lightened enough over the holidays...
Mikey? Loki?
I probably shouldn't talk about it but, when I was home for my dad's funeral, I was gifted some photocopy pics of the Revolution engine sans fins and the prototype bike it was in.
