For the past few months we’ve been watching more and more YouTube and less regular TV. I’ve used YouTube as a learning/how-to resource for years, but there are a lot of shows that provide entertainment as well as info. We “subscribe” to a good many channels; I just wondered if many of the rest of you are watching and what you watch. Here are some highlights from our watch list. Some of these folks post daily videos while others are one video every couple of months.
Aaron Cake- young guy doing an extensive restoration/mod of a Mazda Cosmo, sort of a sport coupe. The thing was absolute toast when he got it, and he’s built up his skill base as he’s gone along. He goes about it strangely- he finished the fully tricked out turbo’ed rotary engine years ago while he’s still working on the rest of the car. I’m really interested to see how it turns out, but it’ll probably be another couple of years at his current rate of progress.
Bad Obsession Motorsports- The guys in the UK doing an insane build of a Mini-Cooper (original version) by installing the complete drivetrain from an AWD Toyota sporty coupe. These guys have insane fabrication skills. If you like British cars and Monty Python, you’ll love them.
Goodson’s All-Terrain Logging- the guys originally featured on the History Channel show “Swamp Last Loggers”. Logging outfit logging the swamps of eastern North Carolina.
Jay Leno’s Garage- Jay talks about and goes for a ride in a different car every week. Most are from his collection, but a few are just interesting cars he spotted around LA. Occasionally they’ll have a shop tour showing the restorations his crew is currently working on. Amazing cars in any category you can imagine.
Out of the Woods- A guy in Tennessee who has a one-man sawmill operation, mostly sawing walnut live edge slabs. Cool to see the beautiful wood he finds.
Outdoors with the Morgans- a family in rural Pennsylvania who works around their property in their spare time, logging, cutting firewood, running tractors, grading trails, building stuff, etc.
Ozzy Man Reviews- hilarious but foul-mouthed commentary on all sorts of random videos by a guy from Australia.

Bad obsession motorsports Joe Robinet (bushcraft) Shawn James (bushcraft/log cabin build) PBS space time spacex this old house Rabea Massaad (damn fine guitarist) Nick Zentner (geology lecture series) Rick Beato (music analysis)
A few other channels.
I find that a lot of the self made content is far superior than the corporate crap the big guys put out.

Big Island,
That's funny!
All,
Survival Russia is an interesting channel.
Tony Heller is awesome on exposing the climate fraudsters.
PragerU has outstanding anti-Marxist, pro-American documentary shorts and other excellent content. Lots of great stuff that is powerful for teaching the ignorant masses the truth if they are capable of breaking through their brainwashed state.
If you want to see entire press conferences with the President, or his speeches and the like, even cabinet meetings, the White House channel is good. Seeing the President unfiltered is helpful.

AvE - Interesting take on running a home machine shop. Early videos are about building a lot of crude tools to get odd things done, like broaching a square hole through steel plate. Now it's more about working with his new CNC mill. He does a lot of videos where he takes apart new things to see what make them work, and where they will fail. Then puts them back together again. Most of the time. He does use language that belongs in the shop, not in an office or around your kids.
Been watching a lot of word working stuff lately. Trying to get my skills up to doing some nice work. Tons of channels to pick from.
Lite Brite - They are a couple that bought a new JL Wrangler and have pushed it hard rock crawling. They've done tons of upgrades. They've also sold their home, and some other nice vehicles and are now living out of the Jeep traveling around 4 wheeling. They have also discussed things like leaving their good paying carriers, and living off YouTube revenues.
Watched a lot of ChuckE2009 - He started talking about welding when he was in trade school. Kept it up as he ran his own welding shop. I've stopped watching now that he's focusing more on tractors and farming.
Banks Power - I hope you know who Gale Banks is. I got hooked with his testing of aftermarket differential covers. They do a lot more than keeping the lube inside! Right now he's doing a series on testing the limits of the Duramax diesel.
The Fabrication Series - All welding and metal fabrication all the time.
This Old Tony - Mostly metal fabrication. Definitely on the lighter side.

I need to check more stuff out...like Leno. I make time for his show on CNBC every week, but never focused on him having a youtube channel.
Mainly I turn on Leo Moracchiolo when I'm doing studio music stuff. His Frog Leap Studios stuff is awesome - he's a rocker, an engineer, and a singer, and just funny as hell to watch. As well as doing great cover songs.

Bad Obsession is great! Binky is coming along, along with that carrier truck they're building!
Scotty Kilmer channel. Honest opinion on cars and how to fix them.
Jay Leno's Garage.
Basic Brewing. Two guys my age that make home brew. They try different styles and ways to brew beer. They're entertaining on top of it!
South Main Auto Repair. Great diagnostic information and repair. This guy is really good with a great sense of humor and humility.
The Townsend's. Eating and living in the 18th century. Quite a history lesson.
I also enjoy a lot of the history and war video's put out by several folks, too many to list here.
I agree Hugh, I watch more youtube than tv. I never watched much on the computer but when I got my Tivo and could watch it on the tv it became a bit additive!

yeah, maybe I need to experiment with some HDMI cables...I have spare inputs on the head unit, and have both audio and video routed through it. Laptop, HDMI, and the bluetooth mouse to run things from "The Chair", could work!

I've been a fan of Esperanza Spalding for some time- just ran across this a few minutes ago. Got me a new girl bassist, plus a killer ensemble to boot!

Matthew...
I've barely spent any time watching YouTube on my TV- might have to change that. I have noticed the sound quality on several videos is surprisingly good.

They don't all have new videos every day.
I usually watch between 1 to 5 videos per day, depending on length. Sometimes I just listen to the audio in the car.. because it's illegal to watch videos while driving.
