For the last few days it seems like the site has been down fairly often each day, is there something that we can do to help?

I hate it when my guests bring in 3 bottles of their own wine and I don't add corkage, 5 children, eat apps for entrees, request every little leftover to go, then present two $25 off cards and then tip me on the discounted amount. Grrr!

Plantar fasciitis.

I love it when I get 25 or 50 dollar gift cards to Red Lobster. My wife doesn't eat there. I make sure I am the first customer on Saturday. I eat like a king without a care in the world and tip like I would want to be tipped for great service, near 50%. I do not take anything to go and do not finnish everything on the plate. I truly indulge myself. The staff in Avon, Indiana has not failed me yet. This is one of my rare pleasures for pleasures sake. If I was short with the staff, it would short the pleasure. Every one should find something to indulge in as an escape from the mundane.

This thread is going in an entirely different direction now.

Greg_e - I haven't noticed any outages, could it be you're having some internet issues?

Squids and RD - I never, ever go out to eat unless I'm prepared to tip from 30% to 50%. I tend to eat in the kind of places where the service is known to be top notch, and the food is also. I am very cautious when I try a new place, and even if the service and food are bad, I tip exactly 15% and then I just don't go back.

If the food sucks, it's not the server's fault. If the server sucks, I let them wonder why I took the trouble to do the exact math to tip EXACTLY 15% to the penny.

To me, 15% is a slap on the wrist. Straighten up and fly right.

There have been some slow downs. I just attributed it to all the politics sucking up bandwidth. I'm gidgity oer Twos vacation and have been hanging on every post there. There have been some hicups for about 2 weeks or so. I don't know how much was BadWeb as it was my service here.

I've had the issues that Greg E described. A few times, I couldn't log on to the site, but 15 or 20 minutes later, things were fine. It has happened three or four times and I wasn't sure if it was me, my ISP or Badweb that was the culprit.

Now that I know it isn't just me, I wonder if it will happen again or if bringing the subject up will cause everything to work smoothly. I hope so; but I don't expect it to.

Add me to the list with intermittent Badweb accessibility issues in the past week or so.

Here I just attributed it to my magnetic personality... Where's that rimshot emoticon?

Spectrum and whatever company from work have both had issues last week. I ask because I have several decommissioned servers at work that I could pull parts from if there was a need.

Well put, and thanks for sayin', RD. Same to you, Matthew.

I've been in the food service industry most of my life, worked almost all FOH and BOH stations, including management. Knowing that folks TRULY understand and appreciate my work means the world to me. To create such an environment as a top tier restaurant and foster the quality of food and service to truly impress is a tall order.

Anyhoo, I just couldn't resist a thread hijack once I saw the title. Carry on, friends. ; )

So, when you order takeout from a restaurant, online, say, Unos, do you tip?

I always tip the driver who delivers my food.

If there is a specific charge for the delivery, then the tip is a little less. If the delivery is "free" then I tip more.

Tip the driver, sure, ( and good advice on the free delivery part ) but what about when you go pick it up?

Servers hate me. I was one of the lucky ones blessed with Olive Garden's Pasta Pass, which gets me all the soup, salad, breadsticks and pasta I can handle for eight weeks. I've eaten at Olive Garden 11 times in the last two weeks, so I've consumed 15 bowls of pasta, 4 bowls of salad, 9 bowls of soup, and 54 breadsticks.

How much has all the above cost? Nothing. Well, I paid $100 for the pass, but it makes the meal free. At about $15 a meal retail I'm already ahead of the curve. I do tip however, I got a fat stack of $2 bills from the bank and use those for tipping.

As for the Badweb servers, I have no idea. I don't get paid enough to check!

I always tip at least 20%. I dine out almost every workday, sometimes twice. I frequent the same restaurants over and over. The ones I’ve settled on over the years have excellent service, excellent food, and are family owned and operated. If you can’t afford to tip, you can’t afford to eat out.

+1 on the whole can't afford to tip can't afford to eat out. I probably eat out once or twice a year, probably closer to once or nonce over the last 10 years and not being able to afford it is why. I never worked in the service industry but figure that's because I'm fortunate. The places I do go are nowhere near high dollar so I'm figuring that the 40-50% I leave is really making the server's (less fortunate than me) day. Unless they really suck, but I've yet to have that happen.

I experienced a little difficulty this morning - both on my desktop and phone.

Nothing like a scare to start your day...

Fortunately operation resumed to normal moments later.

I went against my better judgement and ate at Steak and Shake last week. The food was predictably bad, but it was fairly fast and it was cheap.

The 60+ year old woman who served me was very pleasant, got my order right, kept my soda full and was... doing her job perfectly.

So, my meal comes out to like $4-something.

At these places, you go up to the counter to pay.

I tried to tip $5.00, using my visa card.

The cash register froze up, and would not let the transaction be completed. Apparently they have some kind of software that does not allow a tip over a certain percentage without a manager's approval.

No manager on duty that had the key for the register. I had no cash on me.

We voided the transaction, I tipped the maximum amount, then I went to an ATM and got some cash out. I went back there and asked if they could make change for a $20 so I could leave a proper tip.

Can't open the register without a purchase.

So I asked the kid what kind of milkshake he wanted... bought that, got my change, walked over to the waitress and gave her $5.00

I won't be back to steak and shake. That was ridiculous.

I have a $10 gift card for S$H. I didn't ask for it. I went to the local S$H 2 weeks ago. Had my wife with me and she needed to eat. I had tried out another burger joint the day before, BUT, I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to go back. I was under the impression when I went into the place the day before that is was a fresh ground burger......it was frozen precooked patties. Taste OK but not fresh ground... So, Steak-n-Shake gets a visit. I worked at one in the 70s as a curb hop. This store is the closest to my home. We are seated, ordered, etc. The place is short staff. Manager is not picking up the slack in any area. The accumulation of trash along walls is from all day. Floors were mopped maybe the night before. Our waitress was sent on break prior to bringing our bill. A waitress goes down on the slippery floor. My wife and I enjoyed each other's company till our waitress came back from break. I figured the waitress that fell was probably asked to wait us while our's was on break. She went down hard. I personally handed my waitress her tip. Manager and his buddy are still hem hawing about the fallen waitresses tough luck when we go to pay. I went home. My wife and I were both ticked. So, I waited an hour to calm down. Then, I called corporate for S&H. I explained what I had witnessed and told them my waitress was great. I explained the reason for my call was that a district manager needed to pay a surprise visit to MY local S&H because I did not want it to go out of business as it was my closest Steak-n-Shake. I said I could go into more detail but that a district manager should be able to see exactly what needs to be corrected with the management of the store as soon as he walks in the door. They said something about a gift card and I told them I didn't call for a free meal, I called because I want to keep my local S&H open.

Waiters and waitresses can really shine. I am always concerned about what problems they may be hiding that are wearing on them. They do not need to have to struggle in an unsafe workplace without support from good leaders. There was a thing I read from the Buell factory years ago about sweeping your peoples floor. It stuck with me prior to my retirement in the auto industry. There were times I would stop my people on the job and sweep and mop their floor. Did I think it would make a difference in the finished surface of the car? Absolutely! Why do I look at people funny when I see them driving a car I built? Because they are my family.

I guess I've got to throw my dog into this fight.

I first went to a Steak & Shake while attending the Moto GP race in Indianapolis in 2009. Both my ex and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and especially the real shakes we got for dessert. I personally have never gotten a bad meal there the few times I have eaten at one. In my experience, it is the best of all the fast food burger chains (and that includes In-N-Out Burgers in Kalifornica).

This past week, I had visitors from Australia; Melia and her grand daughter Kala. Kala flat loved the food at the local Steak and Shake. In fact, she insisted on returning there for dinner when their flight was delayed until Saturday morning.

Now, my experiences with Steak & Shake are limited; I don't think I've eaten meals in one of their locations a grand total of a dozen times. But I've always gotten a decent burger and an excellent shake at a fair price. Some of the waitresses have been exceptional and the rest have been competent. I have no reservations about eating there.

Then again, when I'm on the road, I eat a Sausage McMuffin almost daily from the Golden Starches and I really enjoy that.

Matthew, why don't you call Steak & Shake corporate and express your displeasure with their policies? It can't hurt and it might improve things.

I just looked up their Customer Service # it's 1 (877) 785-6745. Tell them to read this thread.

If I wasn't in a mode where I'm trying not to eat any fast food, then I'd probably keep eating there.

As it is, I try not to eat fast foods, but when I do, I want to really enjoy it. It just didn't hit the bullseye for me - the last 3 times I had it.

Three strikes, and they're out.

This morning, I posted a Snippet at 9:07. About 10 minutes later, I was unable to get on the forum and that lasted until just a short time ago.

The interesting part is while I was unable to get here, others had no trouble and posted replies to the Snippet I posted.

That leads me back to questioning whether it's my computer or maybe my Internet Provider that's causing problems. Or maybe because I'm using Google Chrome.

It's a head scratcher.
