Dude, He's surely got certain security clearances for his SpaceX involvement. He's jeopardizing that with his breaking of federal marijuana laws. Amazingly stupid for such a brilliant man. |

Nothing there that could bring a conviction. They could start watching him for something they could use tho... Stress is a MF, guess Elon is a mortal. Hope he survives and thrives, I like him and his ideas. Z |

He's probably not subjected to piss tests like his employees are. There's no way the gubmint is awarding satellite launches to spacex if they don't have drug testing. A fine example you're setting there, buddy. My respect for him has been diminished. |

If he was sipping a glass of Jack Daniel's, would you also have the same loss of respect? |

No. Booze is legal. Companies that do work for the government, especially in defense and aerospace, must do drug testing. I don’t know whether spacex falls under that rule, but I wouldn’t bet against it. I will, however, bet you a dollar that if a rank and file employee got caught smoking pot, they’d be fired. C level executives must not get tested. |

I thought pot was legal in California. I know it is in Colorado. If so, then he's not breaking the law. So if it's legal to smoke pot, why have you lost respect for him? He's responsible for expanding and improving our Space Program. He's doing what NASA was not allowed to do. If a guy who smokes marijuana can get us off this one planet and out into the solar system He's definitely deserving of our respect. |

Federal law, federal security clearances, federal contracts. Many of his workers would certainly get fired for this. Hence, the hypocrisy. |

As Tom said, it’s against the law. You could argue, and I would agree with you, that the constitution does not authorize the federal government to ban a substance, rendering the federal law unlawful. But until the fed’s authority under the commerce clause is reigned in, pot is illegal and a firing offense at most companies. I just think it’s a poor example to set for the millions of young people who look up to him. |

Well; we obviously see it differently. I have no respect for that law that requires mandatory drug testing, so I have no problem with seeing it broken. It was illegal for the Colonists in Boston to disguise themselves as Indians and throw a bunch of tea into Boston Harbor, back in 1773; yet they're held in high esteem. As far as his workers getting fired; is it because he'd fire them, or is it because the Federal Government would demand it? It seems to me that it's the feds who are the hypocrites here if the don't fire Elon. Then again; it's his company, how could they fire him? (Message edited by Crusty on September 09, 2018) |

I feel for Elon, he'll lose a lot of sleep over Hoot losing respect for him... I dislike drugs, never done one ever, never will. But if the dude likes to get high from time to time and doesnt hurt anyone in the process...yeah, go for it dude |

But if the dude likes to get high from time to time and doesnt hurt anyone in the process...yeah, go for it dude If you don't see the harm in this during an interview, I guess you just don't see it. Of course, that doesn't mean the harm isn't there. CEOs are a big part of a companies public image. If you don't see where this behavior will be seen adversely by investors, customers, business partners, etc., I'm not sure what to say. Not to mention the potential for the government questioning their association with SpaceX. Keep in mind, it's not simply this one instance of smoking pot on video. It's a long history at this point, of him doing things that has many questioning his ability to effectively run his companies in a responsible manner. This is just one more (and a pretty big one) questionable action by Musk. |

I just saw this being discussed on FBN. Kieth Fitz-Gerald was saying that he believes that Tesla may not survive this latest action by Musk. No harm done though... |

There are two sides to a coin. Musk must be under unimaginable stress all the time. The flip side of the coin is people like him put them selves in the stressful position for whatever personal reasons. Some people in his position would eat their gun over that level of stress. Others thrive. |

"Of course, that doesn't mean the harm isn't there. CEOs are a big part of a companies public image." Not sure which is worse for his own public image; Smoking a blunt live on air OR Calling Vernon Unsworth, one of the rescue divers that recently helped save a bunch of Taiwanese kids, a pedophile... |

I just point out that Obama, could not get a security clearance. Drug use, association with the Communist Party, foreign trip to restricted Pakistan ( supposedly with terrorist training camp visit? ) etc. I'm not sure if Senator Obama would be cleared for upper levels of classified information, and unless he got elected President, ( which he did ) would never have had access to everything. ( which he did ) |
