Squids,

You have too much faith in NPR.

Your "fixing" was unneeded.

Who can order a half-staffing?
•Only the President and state governors can decide when and how long the American flag should be flown at half-staff.
Battle-Tough American Flags

How long should the flag be at half-staff?
•Thirty days after the death of a President or former President
•Ten days after the death of a Vice President, the Chief Justice or a retired Chief Justice, or the Speaker of the House of Representatives
•Until the burial of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, secretary of a military department, a former Vice President, or the governor of a state, territory, or possession.
•On the day of, and the day after, the death of a Member of Congress.
•On Memorial Day, the day set aside to honor all the people who have died while serving the United States. Originally called Decoration Day, the flag is flown at half-staff until noon, then raised to full staff until sundown.

Greg, thanks for posting those rules. We should all know how that works for sure. However, given that he'll lie in state both at the Arizona capitol and the US capitol, wouldn't you expect at least a week?

And, I have no "faith" in NPR. I simply enjoy their content most of the time at noon on the radio, and much of their online content as it pertains to food, music, books, et cetera.

RIP Senator McCain.

The really crappy thing about the current reporting is that the MSM outlets that disdained Sen. McCain at every opportunity previously, particularly when he ran for president, are now lauding him strictly because of his running feud with the President. Their hypocrisy truly has no bounds.

"In a tweet Monday morning, Matt House, a spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), said that he and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had asked the Department of Defense to “provide necessary support so that U.S. flags on all government buildings remain at half mast through sunset on the day of Senator McCain’s interment.”

"The flags at the White House were lowered Saturday night after McCain’s death from brain cancer, but in a break with precedent, Trump did not issue a proclamation for them to remain there beyond the minimum period the law requires when a senator dies.

The move prompted fierce criticism from a leading veterans group and others who saw it as another slight from President Trump, who acknowledged McCain’s death in a tweet on Saturday but did not issue a formal statement.

“By lowering flags for not one second more than the bare minimum required by law, despite a long-standing tradition of lowering flags until the funeral, the White House is openly showcasing its blatant disrespect for Senator McCain’s many decades of service and sacrifice to our country as well as the service of all his fellow veterans,” AMVETS national executive director Joe Chenelly said in a statement."

(Googled/excerpted from Washington Post, don't know how "fake" they are.)

I'll be sure to raise our flag back up after the Senator's interment.

Sounds from that like the white house will be following the letter of the law. No requirement for anything more. My intent in posting this thread was that I had been neutral in voicing opinions in regard to the man prior to his passing. I intend to show respect in this regard. I never agree 100% with myself. What chance do others have with me. I will leave you my brethren to grieve in your own ways. My prayers are for those he left behind that will truly miss him, and for those that need to forgive for their own soul's sake. I pray also for myself, and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Even when it's not about them.... They make it about them.

There's no need to parrot the many cases already with more to come, of folk grabbing after fame unearned at some one's death.

Unless You want the meteor lure comment justified, and are praising my prognostication skills ; ) heck, feel free, but I don't need the ego boost. This isn't about me, or us.

Let it go.

Save your fury, deserved or not, for the living examples of dishonesty and worse.

I further predict that McCain's colleague's funeral, the now gone former Klan Officer, will be a classier affair than awaits us these next few weeks.

Not, I hasten to add, for any reason to do with the deceased, it's all about the politicians jealous of the attention.

You know; there wasn't this much hatred toward a politician displayed on Badweb when Ted Kennedy died. This place is getting as extreme in its views as any SJW site is in its hatred of all things Trump.

Hate is for others, thank you. Corrosive, soul destroying. I suppose some may interpret my desire for a meteor strike on a gathering of politicians, as hate. Not so. It's self defense.

Me no like.
Absolutely your right, and I won't argue the reasons, since I may agree, but he's not going to mess up Our Government in person anymore.

Got wealthy in politics.
See Meteor lure. ; )

Should have resigned a year ago.
He didn't, Don't know why. Could be political considerations, wanting to pick a successor, ( even though that is not how it is supposed to work... see Got Wealthy, above ) could be a desire to get the last few kicks in, totally understandable, or could have been brain damage. It's not like you expected a Senator to give up power this side of the Grave?

Betrayed his party and his constituents.
Perhaps, and I won't argue one way or another. See Meteor lure.

If you enjoy Irony, and like to mock Hypocrisy, then the ENTIRE Democrat Media Business is in full swing, with everyone who called John McCain horrible things now praising him, and those who praised him screaming how evil he was.

If you don't have perverted tastes in Humor, you might be appalled, if you aren't brainwashed to accept contradictory statements, and trained to ignore what was said an hour ago as evil men preach hate to make you ignore them stealing your stuff.

There is no hate in honesty.

I hope when I die people tell it like it is instead of the usual self serving sermon and post life patronizing.

My wife already says it's unfair that I'm leaving her all my "junk" (A.K.A. vast riches).

Got wealthy in politics.

Actually he met a very wealthy woman and divorced his first wife to marry her.
His first wife was a model who was disfigured in a car accident while Mccain was a POW.

Any hatred, it it exists in this, seems to be pretty much based on McCain's actions. While I certainly wouldn't speak of him this way to his family, for those who are removed from McCain's circle of family and friends, it really is about how McCain's actions affected us. And affect us he did. Often with critical votes, that all too often put him on the wrong side of conservatives. McCain seemed to relish in that. As I said earlier, he was a mixed bag. That pretty much sums his military career, as well as his political career. Sadly, his last couple of years has been largely defined by spite for the President. I'm not sure he even tried to hide that fact. That is not much of a legacy to leave to those who were represented by him.

Funny you bring up Ted. As I understand it, McCain in his early years also had people die due to his mistakes, that he was never held to account for because of his family lineage. Good comparison.

Are any of you aware that McCain and Kennedy died exactly nine year apart and exactly by the same health issue(s)?

And as it seems to me, both had extreme contempt for the US Constitution, We the People, and border security!

I had a Captain like McCain once. Put many of us in harms way. Ultimately got an Admirals Mast for his efforts.

Sad to say, My prediction prediction was dead solid accurate.

Sucks to be right, when you predict evil happenings.

I haven't heard the "I, me, mine" count on Obama's speech. But the short bites unavoidable on the news seemed modest for the biggest ego in any room. I'll assume editing for content. ( the media protects it's demigods, even from themselves )

I really want to hear some reporter ask George the Younger why he spent eight years in the wilderness, voiceless as Barry bombed weddings, ordered assassinations of Americans and foreigners, fought undeclared, illegal wars without Congressional authorization, and lied about everything especially Bush, Yet suddenly found his voice to parrot Democrat Propaganda about Trump. An honest answer, unlikely as it is, would be fascinating. Bite me George. Way to erase years of faking classy behavior.

As for anything I might have to say in memorial to John McCain? This wasn't about him. So no need to muddy the waters already churned to bloody froth as civility is trampled by the predicted mob of self serving parasites.

The above editorial is really an attack on the parasites using McCain's death to promote their own desires.

A word about the feud between John & Donald.

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/08/w ho_really_started_the_trumpmccain_feud.html

John fired the first insult. Donald responded with an utterly classless, mean, and highly offensive twit. Words like "indefensible" were yelled, and justified. Donald's impulsive snap back is indefensible . In a previous era, there would be challenges, meetings of seconds, and pistols at dawn.

And for the history starved, the Reason dueling is illegal in America is the death of a President in a duel, in that deliberately forgotten age of honor.

Forgive me while I imagine an alternative world where Trump faces off against the Press with an Vulcan.

Bush the younger is parroting the Democrats for sure; but more than anything, simply staying in lockstep with the old line Political Establishment that seeks to destroy the outsider Trump.

Interesting to see the spectrum of Tweets the last couple of days. The AP is obliquely criticizing Trump for playing golf when he was specifically asked NOT to attend the funeral. One liberal pundit was ecstatic that McCain’s daughter made remarks clearly critical of Trump to the discomfort of Ivanka Trump, who did attend. Meanwhile, another liberal pundit said he didn’t hear any anti-Trump remarks demonstrating that all Trump supporters are paranoid.

SJW = Social Justice Warrior aka Progressive/Marxist Victim Exploitation Fake.

Re: Bush in lockstep. Truth. So where was he for eight years? The spin on George never criticizing Obama, was he had too much class. He was an old school gentleman who refused to interfere with or criticize the current CIC. Today he's a parrot.

I totally get not liking the Game Show Host. I don't like his persona, his attitude, his 3am twits. I didn't watch his show, I don't stay in his hotels, ( mostly because I'm too poor to waste money on glitz ) and would never have a kind word to say about him, except he properly defined the Lefty Media as enemy of the people.

Unlike "classy" George, Trump never lets a slight go unanswered. You can count this as a severe character flaw, or a brilliant way to distract people from his real failings.

George also had plays with his assassination, was called Chimpy McBushHitler, and never fired back. Thus you may think him stupid, since he is often accused of being dumb. Wrong. For all the legitimate criticisms I have of Bush the Younger, dumb ain't one of them. He didn't crash, once, in F-102, and the attrition rate was catastrophic on those. Sheer elemental skill, the "natural pilot" accolade given many of the aces in history, don't help in a Delta Dart. You fly them by the numbers, on the dot, or they kill you. You either RTFM & know why, or die.

For eight years I watched as the Media wing of the Democrat Party lied about Bush and his horrible crimes against humanity. Almost never, did I hear about the policies that really were bad, except on right wing radio.

Bush lied about WMDs? False. Otherwise there wouldn't be a problem with the VA dealing with nerve gas exposed U.S. troops, who got injured destroying ammo dumps with poison gas concealed inside, just as Sec Powell stated. I could go on. Bush's greatest mistake may have been to not pile Iraqi poison gas shells in the Capitol hallways as a reminder of how dishonest folk like Hillary are.

OTOH, Bush was seldom criticised by Big Media for never vetoing a spending bill.

I admit Barry did complain about the out of control spending he himself voted for, blaming Bush for being UnAmerican for his debt crisis actions. Then Barry promptly doubled the debt, so that indicates his real feelings.

Likewise, although utterly justified complaints about Donald's impulsive and class free behaviour are common, the actual criticism of his actions are uniformly dishonest. He wants to enforce the law and send away criminals? Racist! He hates Jews! He !oves Nazis! All lies.

He appoints jerkazoid losers like Omarosa, and Obama minions with a history of aristocratic contempt for you. Don't hear a lot about that, eh?
