This was posted to the Motus Owner’s Group Facebook page earlier today:
quote:To all Motus customers, dealers, staff, suppliers, friends, After an amazing ten year ride, Motus is forced to shut down operations, effective immediately. This week, Motus' financial backers unexpectedly informed management that they will not provide sufficient capital to maintain operations and grow the business. We were surprised and disappointed, especially because we have been working so hard preparing an October 2018 product launch into a new and exciting segment as well as new features on the MST series. This is very unfortunate timing and we will work to quickly find a new path forward for Motus Motorcycles and our American V4 powertrain division. We are very grateful to Team Motus, truly the finest group of professionals and people, who have each dedicated so much of their hearts and soul to Motus. We are also thankful to our dealers and the many customers and supporters who have cheered us on and put gas in our tanks along the way. For Motus owners, hang on to those motorcycles. As you already know, they are heirlooms, unlike any other motorcycles ever built. Very sincerely, Lee Conn and Brian Case, founders

10 years I wonder how many bikes they delivered? Not enough product to the market place. |

My neighbor rode one and really liked it but the price kept him from pulling the trigger. There's a lot of competition out there in a declining market. |

Makes me reflect on the conversations we had, in the very forum, when I expressed my opinion after MikeR and I attended the gala Motus event. I still have a large collection of Motus swag and stuff. I’ve said ..... since the day Badweb started.......when you have a well designed and sorted out motorcycle you are about 8% on the way to starting a “motorcycle company” What Erik Buell did grows more incredible with each new opportunity to compare to what he accomplished. I’m sorry to see Motus go. |

It's been a while since he's checked in, but Jeremy was keeping tabs on them... wonder what that fat bastard has to say. The one or two times I got to look at one I really, really appreciated them. Sad news- where's that guy, Bruce Belfer (sp?) who almost grabbed EBR back in the day? |

A former co-worker (a test rider with "Million Mile" status) went to work for Motus after early retirement. I remember a statement from one of his e-mails that they (Motus) were one of he most incredible motorcycles he had ever ridden. |

Yeah, I was always hoping they'd make a more affordable model. What they were asking would buy you a fully loaded luxo-tourer from any other major manufacturer. Maybe not at as sporty, BUT far more comfort, more packing capability, and a more extensive dealer network when you're miles from home. If you looked at the sport touring market, you could almost buy THREE sport tourers from some manufacturers for what they were asking. Maybe not as much performance but a match for everything else. Sorry to see them go. They were about the ONLY American motorcycle manufacturer I could think of that wasn't basing their model line on air-cooled V-twins. |

I did not anticipate it to happen, it seems like they are really facing a big issue that they need to shut down their business as soon as possible. |

Still see this one at Alice's on HWY 35 from time to time. "they are heirlooms, unlike any other motorcycles ever built." A bit presumptuous me thinks... |

Remember the day Court and I went to see them. When they started it up I was like Oh YEA. I loved them but more than I wanted to spend on it. |

By the way .....Jobs’ actual quote was “real artists ship”. Cut and paste .... for context:
quote:Not sure if Steve Jobs actually said it, but the meaning of the phrase as commonly used (and as attributed to Jobs) is quite obvious. “Ship”, in the software/products world that Jobs belong to, means “deliver something to your customers”. The phrase means that real artists don’t work in some ivory tower but actually put their stuff out there for the people to see/buy/appreciate/etc. As in, real artists also have the skill to finish their stuff — and to know when to cut corners and be pragmatic in order the stuff to finally be completed (as opposed to insisting to some notion of total purity and perfection, and missing all of their deadlines and chances to deliver something).

Saw my first Motus on the road today. Just a quick look as I passed as he was sitting at a stop sign. Wish I could have gotten a better look. Hopefully I can see another one some day. |

We see them all the time at TWOS in Suches and I saw two on the floor at Hourglass Cycles in Buford,GA Saturday.I'm very fortunate to live in an area that attracts a diverse mix of bikes and riders. |
