Went to Chicago for electronics school at Great Lakes, Ill. in December of 1976 Got to see Lake Michigan freeze over for the first time in white-man history.
Coldest was -36 dF and I spit and watched an ice-ball bounce off the sidewalk in front of me.' Later that evening I watched a guy's ear break off. swear to God!
Supposed to go sub-zero here tomorrow, good thing this junk is cyclical.
Who told you that? The whole point of Climate Con is that "this is the first time ever, and it's only going to get worse, and oh god oh god we're all going to die!"
Bullcrap, of course.
However.... why do you think this isn't the beginning of a century... or a decade ( bad enough ) of colder and colder winters? Ignore Al Gore. Look at Sunspot cycles. A decade? could be.
Heck, we're only one volcanic eruption from another "year without a summer" and several years of colder than "normal" weather year round.
And the Pacific Ring Of Fire is very active this year. Ask New Zealand.
The thing that gets me about the weather these days (aside from the "end of the world" climate change BS)...is how newscasters have changed their wording.
Now, instead of "Maryland is supposed to get heavy snow", they're saying "6.5 million people are AT RISK because of a winter storm that's coming...".
WTF? Now the freakin' WEATHER is out to get us evil humans??
I awoke this morning to 8*F, then watched the temp continue down,to -8*F now, as well as watching the snow fall. It's fine, powdery snow tho. High tomorrow about -5*F.
an aside, how come my phone has a 'degree' symbol, but not my 104- or whatever- key, keyboard.
Sorry to hear that Ourdee. A search might show you the shortcut to get the degree (°) on whatever system you are using. On Windows based systems holding the Alt key while typing 248 gives one the degree system. Found that out in a college course where the instructor was very picky about including the symbol.
Typing the Degree Symbols on Mac Option+Shift+8 produced one like this: Temperature Symbol: 85¡Æ Option+K types a symbol like this: Degree Symbol: 24¢ª

I was there back then too. My barracks was on the north corner up from the cafeteria. Did your class ever have to "march" the parking lot?
I got pushed back one class because I could not grasp transistors. Much like "valves", as the Brits say.
We are at 1 degree F here right now. High here today will be 4 degrees F, with low of -14 tonight (no wind chill factored)
