Brankin, for some reason, your post made me think John needs to go back to Oz. That way we can read of his Summer exploits while we're shoveling snow. John, it's about time for you to consolidate your snippets and get published... just my humble opinion. Z |

You folks in Southern California get to see the Black Lightning today. I have to wait until the New York show. I very strongly suspect that I'm going to like it a lot. I wonder if Coolice is going to be there? That would be a really big plus. |

That’s my strange bike. Yep, it’s ugly, but everything serves to make life easier for me. The tall, wide handlebars are from a 1974 Honda Elsinore. I’ve done a lot of dirt biking and some desert racing, so the tall, wide feel works for me. An upright riding position is more comfortable for long rides. The seat is indeed the front half of the stock seat from my 2006 Ulysses. It does push me forward a bit, but until I can get something more custom made, it’ll do. Better than the tiny piece of wood it comes with. The Laguna Blue airbox cover is safe and protected in my office and will be pristine whenever I decide to deconstruct my creation. |

No offense in tended Richard. Ugly, in this case, was a term of endearment. Reminded me of one of the motorcycles of my youth. Jeff |

No offense taken at all. I'm just glad you can't see me in the photo. Talk about ugly. |

24thfoot... The use of the RAM mounts for an adjustable fairing was an act of inspired genius. Do they lock down tight enough to hold position at speed? Or do they creep? |

They do not "walk down". I had that problem before with RAM mounts on my Harley vibrating couch, so I learned to scuff the balls and the insides of the sockets with very rough sandpaper to keep that from happening. I sand the two surfaces in multiple directions, then clean it to get and leftover dust and it works very well. The RAM mounts are also great for experimenting with different angles, etc. |

Here are a few pics from the IMS in Long Beach, CA yesterday where the bike was unveiled:
Here's a closeup of the Corbin "comfort" seat:

It is a slick bike. At 6'4" I have zero need for "lowered" though...but I am extremely happy to see them expanding the lineup. Baby steps... |

At 6'4" I have zero need for "lowered" though... Might be nice for you to have the taller seat, lower pegs, and taller bars off the BL on a regular SX, though, right? |

That thing is pure undistilled motorcycle porn. But at this stage in my life it's not the bike for me. On a bike like that my life span would be measured in minutes... But, I'd die sporting wood |

I have Uly pegs, Pegasus seat, and clubmans on my CR and love it. 900+ miles a day, no problem. My biggest "problem" is...I have lots of bikes. At this point, all my needs are - behind one set of bars or another - met. It'll have to be monumental in order for me to 'have to have' something new in the garage... |

I'm looking at that bike and thinking that a set of exhaust tips (along with the appropriate ECM changes), instead of the secondary muffler would allow the fitment of hard bags. I like the taller bars and lower pegs. I'll reserve judgment on the Corbin seat until I sit on one (I have a not-quite-so-stellar opinion of Corbin). A windscreen, hand guards and heated grips should be pretty easy to come by. Boy; it's really getting close to my idea of a Sport Tourer. I can hardly wait until the New York show! |

If it means I can buy the seat from EBR and not have to deal with Corbin directly, it sounds like the best of both worlds where you have the great seats Corbin is known for, but get to deal with a company with great customer service instead. |

I have a Corbin for my S3 and XB12R and, imo, they both suck ass. After buying those 2 seats I've always wondered why Corbins have such a good reputation for being great seats. |

I have to admit, when I got the Corbin for my C650GT they were quite helpful. Maybe they're FINALLY starting to address that part of their reputation? I had a Corbin for both my M1 Cyclone and my 1125R and (when I FINALLY got the latter to fit, thanks to Al of American Sportbike) they were both far more comfortable than the stock seat. I got the Corbin for the big scooter because I found myself squirming around a lot on my trips to and from Indianapolis. Of course, once I got it, they went and canceled the MotoGP in that city!! Still, on similarly long trips the Corbin has reduced my squirming to nil. They just came out with a replacement saddle for my Zero, but that isn't a bike that I'll ride for hours on end and the stock seat is adequate for that. OTOH, I may get one just to change the look of the bike. We'll see... |

If your ass is curved the same as the test model for a particular Corbin model...you're all set. I have two Corbins for my S2 and I love them. One's a Gunfighter; one a Gunfighter and Lady. Perfect fit. I have one for my S1W solo tail...feels like a 2x6. Apparently they sculpted that to fit a different ass-curve. Regardless of curve, Corbin's are HARD. These aren't the barcolounger-padded tall Uly seat here! And, hard works fine if your ass and the seat are the same curve, because there is no pressure point issue, everything is equally supported. Quality? Sure. These things last forEVER. They're definitely well put together. But you gotta be the right shape for 'em. |

I was told that it takes 3000 miles for a Corbin to break in. I put a new Corbin tractor seat on an 89 Heritage Softtail and rode to Newfoundland. I cussed that seat all the way there. On the trip home it finally broke it and I loved it. They are supposed to have part of the foam form to your keester and maintain that shape. I thing it works sometimes but not always. |

Corbin seat on my S2T works for me. 3X trips to Philly this year and zero pain for me. Wife, OTOH, while riding shotgun on trip 2, said ouch! |

Judging from posts on EBR's FB page as well as several motorcycle magazine sites, EBR's booth at the Long Beach IMS is getting a lot of attention this weekend. That would seem to be a very good thing! |

I just noticed a post from Reg Kittrelle on Facebook. It seems he found the EBR booth this weekend: quote:This one caught me completely by surprise... Buell —the man and the motorcycle—and I have a history. No need to recount it here, but it suffices to say that EBR's latest offering, the "Black Lightning", drew clinical interest from me, so I had to visit the EBR's stand. I say "clinical" because these latest iterations don't do much to excite me; I'm a "tuber" guy (No, I'm not talking potatoes). The "Black Lightning" pix I'd seen did little for me; all-black bikes don't picture well. Face-to-face, it was more interesting. In a word I'd describe it as brutal. It's not pretty. The look challenges you to like it, but doesn't give a crap if you don't. An old friend and an EBR mainstay, Mike Kirkpatrick, was on hand, so I had him fill me in on the bike a bit. Interesting, but the info didn't crack the clinical wall. Then I sat on it. I'll be damned if I have a clue how this works, and its only happened two or three times previously, but I connected instantly with the "Black Lightning." It fit like it was designed around me. That "brutal" look suddenly became my bespoke highway weapon. Three important specs: 417 pounds, 185 horsepower, $13,900. Had there been an ATM on hand, my next critical speech would have started out, "Hi Lora, I'm home. You won't believe what followed me!" It's been a couple of years since I've talked with Erik Buell, but I was able to get him aside for a few minutes. Fascinating man to talk with; I enjoyed it immensely. The last thing I did before leaving for the show was, on impulse, grab that 17-year-old [Buell] shirt from my closet. Glad I did as I could bring a bit of the past into the picture of us two. p.s. I talked myself out buying the EBR. It took all of the 400-mile trip home to do so, but logic reared its unwanted head and said, "Really, Reg?"
