Damn... we're getting the band back together! I just got my Z back from The Kid, so I'll be equipped with heated grips this weekend and about 100 extra horsepower. Just got to put in about 5 hours at work tomorrow and I can bail... I figure at 11:11 on 11/11 should be appropriate. | ||

Holy moly what a day, those fires took a toll on my eyes and lungs, after 2+ hours of driving through it I thought it would never end. Things cleared up near the Georgia border, and the air is nice and clean at Suches for now. | ||

I see a box for a new battery. It can't be *that* bad.  Remember you can pull the headlight fuse and get more miles before a battery discharges.... | ||

I had the bike at the dealer, I doubt they used a tender so my battery which was nearing end of life ended up very close to not starting the bike even after some riding. Better safe than sorry so I grabbed a replacement in Gainesville from Batteries + Bulbs. Reep, if I pulled the fuse I wouldn't be able to start due to the safety, so I pulled the fan fuse till we got there. | ||

Wow. Made it back home at about 2-3PM, WHOOPED. I stopped at one of the two turns on TN360 to chug an energy drink, which had NO effect. A nice surprise there though- found that the local Ruritans had tapped a natural spring, filled my water bottle with the great water. Then I hit the LOOONG, STRAAAIGHT, BOOORING stretch of TN411 to make it home, all the way singing, hollering, doing whatever to stay awake and in my lane! I'd really not judged how physically/mentally TANKED OUT I was, until Tim, Michael, and Clint split off to do the Cherohala after I led them north...  I had a ball. It was great to see the gang, but sad to miss Glitch and Ann, but that's life. My grand plan to pack in all my food kinda backfired a bit, as I missed out on the 'cue, but heck, I'll live. My main takeaways: Tim is still insane, and Charlie a bit more insane, the way he flogged his new road couch to lead our group. It might as well had been his old Uly, or whatever... I had hoped he would be a <bit> slower so I could maintain on the Beemer. WRONG! Glad we didn't launch off the mountain... And, I'm more in love with my R75/7 than ever! Rode it WFO to try and keep the insane ones in my sights, but my Avons stuck like glue, and AFAIK I didn't keep them waiting too long at the intersections. Not bad for my 40 year old steed! Benton's Hams in Madisonville TN will from now on be a stop, to grab those Chicago dogs and some of the world's best breakfast sausage. Sad to miss out on lunch with you guys, but next time we'll work the menu stragety for all a little better. I missed staying at TWoS, but Copperhead Lodge's cabins RAWKK! Will stay there again. Looking forward to seeing you all in the spring. Ride safe, rubber side down, my friends. | ||

We made it back to the Midwest safe and sound. I have a few suggestions for next year. We should have a get together dinner at 6pm at the bbq shack. This would optimize daytime ride time and get everyone together. This would be a nice end to the day and some better get together time. Also I think it should be 3 or 4 days. It will be for me next time. 2 is not enough time to ride and socialize. While I really like copperhead lodge I really didn't like our group being split. Hopefully next time we can get together in one place. That being said, I had a blast. I just wish I could have spent more time with the whole group. | ||

Agreed on all counts. If we book ahead of time, there is plenty of room at TWoS. I'm all for a 3 or 4 day rally. I'll do my best to put together something more organized for MARCH of 2017. Glitch Badness III... plan for it. I'll be posting dates soon. I believe we'll have our Australian and Canadian contingents present as well. I'd like to see the entire upstairs of the lodge, and as many cabins as possible booked by our group. Let's make this happen, people. |
