Bill, Is it okay to generalize Muslims in any way, like that they believe in the religion of Islam? I'd sincerely like to know where anyone here has been generalizing Muslims, so I can add my voice to yours. All I've seen are critiques of Islam the religion, cultures of various Islamist nations, but nothing about Muslims in general. | ||

Total cliche..... some of my best friends are Muslim. An incredible Sunni family from Lebanon, that are history buffs far better than me. Outstanding members of their community, multiple communities in truth and exhibit all the good parts of their faith. The kind of neighbors that help out, traditional family values with modern freedoms well integrated. What you'd recognize in a "good Christians" household or a Hindu family. They generate good Karma. Most of the rest are College students from all over. Lively discussions with many of them. Several local professionals.... like my doctor. Engineers, Techs, med research. ...Etc. & Most importantly I can eat good ethnic food from a broad range of the planet.  | ||

That's absolutely delicious (if you eat with the locals you'll be eating slopppy oily rice with your hands. Which doesn't bother me a bit so long as I can wash my hands afterwards). Then there's goat, which the uneducated mainstream equates with lamb. I'm telling you, comparing goat to lamb is like comparing dog food to a top-dollar steak. Edit: Blake, yes I generalize muslims into two groups. Those that are hell-bent on sending the world to hell, and those who do not currently care if the world goes to hell. All that needs to happen for the latter to become the former, is for the former to roll into town and start executing the latter for not practicing the teachings of the qran, which they claim to believe. I've had excellent goat in Aruba. Me too. And Curacao, Sint Maarten, Saba... etc. It's freaking delicious. And on the smaller islands you can get the most incredible steaks (beef)... in places where they don't have big walk-in coolers you can often get meat that was butchered that same morning. Supergood. | ||

I've had decent Jamaican jerked goat, in Rochester, NY. Not my favorite food, but I like it better than many I don't care for, like Lobster. ( just not fond of the taste. I actually prefer Krab to real crab meat, usually. ) I welcome legal immigrants from around the planet, if they want to share the American Dream, where anyone can succeed, ( unless they listen to the Party of the Klan ) and your children will have a future unheard of in the pos dictatorship you escaped from. Or the modern western European nation that is sinking under the yoke of socialism and bureaucratic overload. I welcome your food, your art, your music. I may not buy it, or like it that much, but I welcome it. Come join the melting pot and make our alloy a stronger, less brittle one. I have less than contempt for them. Loathing is a better word. I don't have the answer to the war we are in.  I have no idea how the labels work, but that's still funny. It's a distraction from the fact the policies of the Annointed One, Mullah Barrack Hussein Obama, Peace Be Upon Him, have led to multiple mass murder terrorist attacks in the United States by Obedient Islamists. And he will lie to you face about it. But that's ok because in BOTH of his faiths it is permissible, even a Blessing, to lie to the infidels to advance the cause of Islam, AND Holy State Authoritarianism. Personally, I find a lot of sex hilarious. The late, great, Sam Kinison had a bit about "never video record yourself having sex". He said it seems like a great idea, but since you are not a professional porn star it's really unattractive. I also find some stuff disgusting. Every time I think I've reached the "I'm sophisticated and cool" stage I find some aspect of human weirdness new to me and shudder. OTOH, some stuff considered quite weird is some cultures seems like a fun time to me. To quote Pinky from "Pinky & the Brain"..... yeah, the reboot on Ren & Stimpy didn't get the show. They got "Kids like gross" and "boogers are funny" but missed the second level humor that is the mark of a great cartoon. Warner seems to get it pretty good. Who hasn't watched an old Bugs Bunny when they hit...oh, say 17, and suddenly got jokes that went WAY over your head when you were 10? Disney, otoh... Some Pixar movies have that two layered humor, but most Disney classics have... subtext. I'm sure there are college courses that deconstruct Walt's sex life.... Fantasia alone is full of stuff you can easily imagine is fetish fuel, and almost all Disney Wicked Queens define fetish wear. But there are some great, and many stupid toons out there. Which ones you are fans of depends on when you went to college and how old your kids were in what year. I know Dexter and Kim Possible but am sadly lacking in Sponge Bob lore. ( and I'm ok with that. ) Like it has been said, you know how old you are by which Tim Curry Movies you are a fan of. Please don't make me watch "The Littlest Witch" again. Please. |
