Yeesh- wonder how much red tape he'd have to get to ride an AUS bike in the USA?

Bringing the X1 to the US and California would not be a big deal since he is the current owner. Shipping costs would be the biggest hurdle.

The regulations on bringing a used motorcycle to California only require that the bike either be a 50 state emission model, or have at least 7500 miles on it if you do not currently have it registered in another state. I know the details, because I am currently searching for my next bike, a low mileage Firebolt for almost a year. If the bike is registered in my name in another state, California DMV cannot prevent me from registering it in CA even if it has 1 mile.

California regulations consider any bike with under 7500 miles as a "new" bike, subject to current CA emissions regulations, unless, as I said, it is registered in your name in another state.

BTW Wolfe: The do have an issue with siblings, but not cousins...

Oh come-on! You guys are looking for branches in the family tree! Stop it!There can be nothing good coming from in depth family history research in certain areas. I am in Tennessee where trees of all kinds are straight and tall.

Graham! What the hell man! Have you not been watching any of the news in the US lately!?!? I'm happy to see a man like yourself wanting to come to the good ole USA, but you might want to have a mental health examination before you pack your bags!

Gonna be a bitch riding a Buell across that big pond! Gas stops will suck and you would need a lot of them at 130 mile marks. A couple of pontoons with some good ratchet straps should get you going. Don't forget your navigation charts in case your cell phone batteries run down.

Last I checked to bring into CA an out of state bike required 7500 miles on the odo. That was 20 years ago. Out of country? Dunno. Depends if emissions are the same.
I think it doesn't matter anymore for all states cuz they all have the same emissions requirements. I could be wrong.
But if EBR built all the bikes to the same emissions requirement then it should be good.

If I can. I don't have my own means of transportation yet, so it's hard for me to get around. We'll be going to pick up the Sportster in a few days, then I'll have a better idea on how long it's going to be before I do have a means of getting around independently.

What? . . . I am confused . . . I haven't been paying attention . . . let me get this right . . .we traded Crusty for Graham in some sort of a international hostage negotiation?

Look . . . we're going to love having Graham here . . . but without Crusty . . . . how will we eat BBQ?

Hmmmmmm . . . . so we traded a BBQ aficionado for a guitar player.

Hmmmmm . . . . . It's win-win deal either way . . . .but someone needs to left Chili know we hold high expectations for him when he hits USA soil !

Whoa.... Where is Crusty??? Here somewhere??? Fill me in!

Thanks for putting up the post Glitch!

Yes, I finally did it... After four trips in less than six years I decided I really did want to move to the U.S... If you put out the message to the universe it can be amazing what happens! It's taken six months, but I got the official job offer on Thursday, and I accepted the offer! : D Now that I have the job I have to get some paperwork from Dept of Labor, then I can apply for the visa (E-3) through the US Consulate here... Most of my other paperwork is all prepared so I'm hoping to have the visa all sorted before the end of December and moving in January. I'll be working remotely for my new employer, Distech Controls Energy Services Inc, until I move.

The Bonnie is for sale and the X1W will be for sale soon... I've considered putting the X1W in storage or bringing it with me, but I can probably get a little more for it here than I can buy one for in the U.S., plus there's shipping and the hassle of getting it registered in California... With a full race kit ... Selling the Bonnie will be easy I think, selling the Buell is going to a little weird, I love that bike... I've sold a few of my guitars, and the last one for sale went this morning and it was kind of like giving up one of my children...

I'll need to sort out four wheels first... Strangely Jeep Wranglers seem to be expensive in Los Angeles, whereas Porsche Boxsters are plentiful and cheap

For two wheels I am kind of thinking it's time for something different... It's been a long time since I've had a four... But then I've never had a triple... Or an Italian...

Hey Graham! Hopefully your time coming in the USA will send ya over our direction in the BEST part of the country, Southern Appalachia... ; )

You're gonna have a LOT of great choices for moto-bikes in CA and the west coast... take your time and pick a good'un!

My two bikes are now a '77 BMW R75/7, and my 2002 Triumph 955 Sprint ST (you saw it at Glitchfest)... for performance I'm really loving the Triple. For a former Buell abuser this thing has the right torque AND the nice revs. I'd never consider another inline 4 unless it were Yamaha- I've had a FZ700 and loved the 5 valve motor. And the crossplane motor Yamaha has actually DOES sound super sexy.

Hmmm... Speed Triple was a thought, but a 955 Sprint RS or ST could fit the bill nicely as a do everything bike : )

The new job will involve traveling, and my desire to travel I think is part of the reason I got the job. I should have some flexibility with my travels, so hopefully I should be able to go to a project/site on a Thursday and Friday and then spend the weekend exploring that city/area. Over time I'm hoping to catch up with a lot of you folks, and of course once I'm settled you'll always be welcome at my place : )

Working out where to live in Los Angeles or Orange County and finding a car are on my mind a lot... It's such a big adventure , and it's making a "dream come true" kinda stuff, so I figure I may as well hunt down a dream car too, even if it is something on a budget : D I've always wanted a Porsche, but carrying mountain bikes could be challenging, so something really American that I can't get here is a thought... Fox Mustang hatchback? C4 Corvette? ; )
