"Do you not pay income taxes when you are in the military?"

Depends on how long you've been in and your rank.

For the first few years, your income is pretty low. Low enough to not have a federal income tax liability.

They do not want any more debates, because they can not answer any of those questions, so end up fighting amongst themselves to defer answering any questions. A pathetic lot that are a shame to a once proud party.

Also, some of your 'pay' comes in as an 'allowance', which is not taxable, further reducing your income for tax purposes. Examples are commuted rations, and basic housing allowance. Not all military members get these though. Some things that should not be taxed, that are, are combat pay, hazardous duty pay, and sea pay (which are less than you might think). Though sometimes certain areas are declared tax free zones, and members don't have to pay tax on anything if they're in that area. So combat pay, even though it's 'pay' is often not taxed.

I think it's a bit ridiculous to tax military pay in the first place. One, it ain't much, and two, we pay them from tax dollars. Here, have some tax dollars...oh wait...we need some of them back. Not sure I'd apply that reasoning to other federal employees. They make way more than the military. I worked it out once. When I was at sea, I made about $1.50 an hour.

OK to expand on my comments.

Military service IMO entitles you to vote, and no I have not served in the military.

Paying taxes should entitle you to vote, you pay for the policy that the elected officials enact so when they ignore their constituents there can be "consequences".

Folks who don't pay and are promised free stuff for their votes should not be voting.

or

Perhaps all should pay a very small tax say 2% for 1-25K per year, 10% 25-50K etc.

So all pay in perhaps encouraging consideration of bernie sanders type of give away programs and their true costs

I agree, but just stating what you have above will get you branded as a hater who is against Poor People. Mostly because the Welfare Plantation is owned by one Party in the U.S. no matter how hard the idiot R leadership tries to cash in on it.

By Trying to get the Dole vote, the R leaders really anger the actual working citizens who are their base. Probably because they figure they own you. That's a major mistake, and led to the R's falling out of power in Congress after failing to live up to their promises.

Like they are today. It Can happen again, all you have to do is torque off the base and they will just stay home muttering "a plague on both your houses". You can argue all you want that it's someone's Duty as a citizen to try and keep the Alinskyites from having 8 more years to destroy western civilization, but if Ryan doesn't royally anger the President and push some good legislation through, like, maybe, an actual budget? don't expect to hold a majority for long in Congress. If Boehner was still in charge on his previous course, it would be a sure thing that the D's take back a majority. ( as in I could not make money in Vegas on that bet )

Donald Trump Campaign First To Submit 15,000 Validated Signatures For Virginia Ballot Qualification

Great job Trump Team Virginia. Virginia is the second hardest state to qualify for ballot placement (hardest is Illinois). While the Trump team needed 5,000 signatures, plus 200 per congressional district (11), team Trump submitted 15,000 signatures which were verified and validated!!

Donald Trump is now the first, and so far only, candidate to reach these challenging VA qualifications. The remaining campaigns have less than a month remaining to qualify. The primary date is scheduled for March 1st.

quote:

RVA PRESS RELEASE – The Republican Party of Virginia (RPV) is pleased to announce that Donald Trump is the first Republican candidate to submit signatures for “pre-check” review by the RPV and are ready for submission to the State Board of Elections, well ahead of the December 10, 2015 deadline.

RPV reviewed the signatures on the petitions submitted and the Trump Campaign passed the pre-check process indicating there are sufficient signatures to meet the 5,000 statewide and 200 per Congressional District requirements of Virginia law.

“The pathway to the White House runs through Virginia,” said RPV Chairman John Whitbeck. “With our March 1, 2016 primary deadline less than a month away, we are excited that Donald Trump has become the first candidate to have the necessary signatures to qualify for the ballot. We appreciate the campaign’s efforts to get the signatures in quickly and it demonstrates how committed they are to making the ballot here and competing with their strong ground game in Virginia. I admire the heck out of Bill Whittle. I'm not even close to having enough time to watch this right now, but I got five minutes in just now and I want more. I'll be back.

If there were a lot more Bill Whittle's in the world, our world would be a lot better place.

I don't always agree with Bill. Yet I am certain that if we were seated on an airliner next to each other that we could disagree with courtesy and conviction.

Never mind the fact that both Bill and I are airplane & space nuts, that we could have a conversation that never touched upon politics and would be incomprehensible and terminally boring to others not of that nerd flavor. ( just as I would be bored if the people next to me were earnestly discussing fashion )

The truth is at no part of an argument between Bill and I, or I and several others on this board, would there be a questioning of sexuality, an ad hominum fallacy, or insults about each other's ancestry or nation. We may well part muttering the other is crazy, but either of us would be willing to change our mind if the other had a better argument, and neither of us would refuse to support a position we believe in.

Unlike some others, who refuse to participate, and only have insults, and hatred.

Btw, I cheerfully insult people here, as I feel their sense of humor allows them to appreciate. After all, most of us here have odd notions about what kind of toys they enjoy. I may not collect My Little Pony figures, and mock you for your fandom, but I am well aware you may mock me for my appreciation of steampunk cartoons.

That's what makes us the superior civilization. The freedom to disagree, and be tolerant of others where they too are tolerant of others.

So far I like Ben, Ted, and Carly.

Pick a combination. I'm not married to any of them.

I also don't want Jeb, and don't think I like Marco.

My post above is because Donald's "remarks" went on high rotation on the internet. As presented, I sure disagree with the reporter's simplistic and stupid idea. But like the Donald or not, it's a pack of lies, and if I don't like a person I shouldn't tolerate lies about them.

If Barry the Weasel was accused of something false, I'd defend him too. I mostly don't have to since we may never know who paid his way through school, or a vast number of other minor details in his life, since his public character is a construct. And the lies he has told to shape his image are contradictory, over time. So, no, I bet you he wasn't born in Kenya, but at one time he lived with the lie that he Was, because that was his biography and selling point with his publisher. Kenyan born Young Democrat State Senator Success Story. Did Barry write that? no idea. Did he get it corrected if it was written by a marketing guy? Nope.

So I don't often have to correct lies about Obama. The truth is damning enough.

I prefer to dislike folk for their own flaws, not the slander of their enemies. ; )

Yes.

Can they win the general election? That's the $64,000 question.

I'm a Ted Cruz fan, myself.

We can do better than Trump. But, as Bill says, we can do much much much worse. We are right now.

Yes.

No, they can't. One can wish otherwise, but if you understand how the nomination process works, and all the various machinations put in place over the past several years - and some within the past several months - to insure ONE outcome, then there is no chance - ZERO - of anyone but Bush being nominated as the R presidential candidate (all the rest, with perhaps one or two exceptions, are "splitters").

That is, until Trump came along...
