Tim- love the shirt!

I would posit that "summer sucks" for this damn humidity, dry plants, monkey butt after riding a MC with full gear, not having the windows open for a cool breeze
(not until next month prolly)...

Oh well. Keeps things interesting, them 4 seasons! ; )

Sweet news for sure. I am doing the same with the new Viper.

If anyone is looking for a top of the line boot for the ladies, I just found a deal and a half.

I was doing some pre-haydays shopping for my daughter as her feet have gotten to Sasquatch proportions. Klim is updating their entire catalog for 2016, so that allows dealers to discount their products. Normally, they are under contract to not allow discounting over a certain percentage unless the clothing is being replaced.

Klim Aurora GTX boots for women are GoreTex and Thinsulate insulated. Heck, they even come with three different colors of laces in the box!

Normally sell for $239, Country Cat in Sauk Center, MN has them on their site and Ebay for $167, free shipping and no tax!!

I was going to hold out for Haydays to give her something to shop for, but could not wait as they had her size. They are a little spendy, but that's one hell of a boot for the money.

Nothing kills a ride day like cold wet feet, and good boots solve that problem.

Biff,
I don't usually check this thread, but when I did today and saw you write "spendy", I was suddenly back in Thief River Falls MN, working with the crew there on sleds, and using the word "spendy" everytime a project went over budget or a sled part cost to much!

I spent 30 years grwoing up in MI and never heard that word until moving to TRF!

Klim has good stuff, i personally dont own any, but my dad and friends really like theirs.

i saw country cats sale... maybe i should look at a set of those for the woman. i could probably use better boots myself...

A set of good boots are on my list to get at the Outlaw Grass drags.

I'm swapping again this year at the grass drags. If anyone is going, make sure to stop by and say hi and grab something to drink. It's always hot and dusty.

That's too funny. I guess growing up in MN there are plenty of words we use that I don't think anything of.

Wait till you hear me pronounce boots! HA!

I had worn the same Castle bibs/jacket combo for over 10 years until this past year. I did some off-season shopping and got into Klim pants, jacket and gloves.

Now that they make insulated gear for us trail riders, it's nice to be able to stay warm and dry. I was amazed at how many times I thought I was just wet from sweat in my previous gear, that now I realize it was just moisture getting through.

This will be a good Haydays to shop Klim, as I mentioned, the dealers will be looking to dump 2015 gear with the new 2016 items coming in.

got my first couple snowmobile rides of the year in on sunday...! ; ) and a couple wheelies!

my dad just sold the farm, and we have been helping them move. that also means i have lost my summer storage for the sleds... ugh. so we had to get them all down out of the loft above the shop, and move them, with my 3(dad just gave me the old prowler for the kids) and the other 4 of dads 6(2 stayed at the wisconsin house this summer)

when we built this big shed when i was younger, we took down an old arched roof barn and used the rafters for this. which gave us a TON of storage space up above, that will be sorely missed by both of us...

since everyone loves pics!

my 3 current sleds fresh out of hibernation.

dads sleds.

he was just asking me what i thought sale value on the green zr and black zl is... and he has mentioned a couple times selling the m7. he bought the green zr with 100 miles on it, and the m7 brand new. i have some interest in the m7 if the price is decent. i wouldnt mind having something so i could make a trip or 2 to the mountains with friends. ill bet the stock paddle track only has a couple hundred miles on it since most of its miles have been on trails with a more trail friendly track.

getting loaded

had to find just the right angles to get the old GMC eased down into the ditch. being lowered 5/7 means it doesnt have alot of ground clearance left lol!

now i just have to figure out how to make more room in my garage!

Fun pics!

I've been a Tennessee boy all my life, never experienced sleds like that... I do still have my wooden sled, somehow I didn't destroy it growing up, which qualifies as a MIRACLE, given how many "rat races" I did with it! I still believe it's the fastest wooden sled me or any of my buddies ever had. ; )

Maybe someday I'll make it up north somewhere when it's worthwhile, to give something like those a try!

Good luck on the move, be safe!

Grassy Power Wheelies! WOOT WOOT!!!

I had a guy text me about my Phazer for sale and I said it's a good time as we have plenty of wet ditches for a test ride!

It's not much worse that some of the crap we ride in the fall or spring, just a whole lot warmer.

Rice, you may want to consider some sled stacking lifts for the garage. A neighbor of mine used to make these. It was like the small mechanics bike/atv lifts but built large enough to lift a sled and allow you to drive another underneath! Good way to get 2 for 1 space in the garage.

Another guy on Totally Yamaha, built a loft above his workbench and a lift that allowed him to put his sleds above the workbench in the summer, and his summer stuff up in the winter. Very cool if you have tall ceiling in the garage.

Squids, I love hearing from those that have never experienced sledding as it is very hard for me to imagine not being able to have seasons like this.

I dig it especially, since my current snowmobile would blow away any bike I have driven. My newest Yamaha Apex has a version of a Yamaha R1 engine pushing out over 160hp. And that is not considered a monster by some standards anymore. Rice's 800RR is about the same!

The traction, and power of these new sleds is an ultra rush. Especially since you are driving them on terrain that is not meant to be ridden on for the most part.

Cranking 40-50mph corners around trees all day in the woods in one thing, triple digits on a lake is another. But passing cars while rocking 80+mph in a ditch and launching road approaches for yards, that is snow cross for the amateur!

Nothing gets me more jacked than seeing a ribbon of fresh groomed trail, or groomed ditch. You know that the groomer was grinning as he grooms this crazy slalom course around power lines, and up over approaches, knowing exactly where the track or skis will never touch the ground!

There are just so many different kinds of terrain you can encounter in one day, let alone a season. I get giddy just thinking about it. Then when a 1-2ft powder day comes along, us flat landers all look like yahoos on their first day on a sled as we just don't get to do that enough.

I love exposing new people to the sport. Especially the ones that cry that they hate winter. I truly think they just don't have a good winter sport/hobby. And as we talked about, today's clothing really allows it to be enjoyable down well below zero if not -15f

Good stuff. And we have had overnight temps in the 40's around here. Winter is coming.

Thanks for sayin'! I know it's a totally different sport, but not quite...

Good stuff. I do keep an eye on this thread, just "for something completely different"... ; )

2 smokes are still out there too, right? That alone would make things worth it for me. I miss my RZ350.

Biff runs the 4 stroke stuff, im still running all 2 strokes... i wavered a bit when i bought my new one last year, but still grabbed another smoker(well barely as efficient as they make them these days).

i came real close to buying an 1100 turbo 4 stroke version of my 800. same chassis, but my big reason behind buying the new sled is because i wanted less weight and more suspension(you know, the kind of stuff you need for big jumps... lol)

and i know the feelings Biff is describing when riding, VERY well!

as for the storage, i have designed a rack system with an electric winch... id just have to buy the steel and build it. which doing so, isnt the problem(well maybe finding the free time), its more the investment i will have in steel to make it come to life...

Yup, 2-stroke are still the dominant seller in the sled world. That would change if someone could make a competitive 4-stroke snowcross or mountain sled. Like what we saw in Supercross dirt bikes.

People still relate fast/light with 2-stroke and have yet to be proven wrong. Although, those that like to boost these sleds will grab a 4-stoke every time for durability under boost. I have yet to have need for that yet. My sled will do more than I have the nuts to do.

The weight issue isn't relevant for many of us trail riders as I am under the belief that my heavy 4-stoke holds the line in corners and doesn't get kicked by the bumps. Power steering makes up for a heavy front end and old age!!

Who am I kidding, it's all in what a person gets used to. I have about 40 miles of helmet cam video of us hammering 2ft bumps at 65mph in Michigan in January. It not uncommon to get trapped away from your hotel with one trail back that is all whooped out. It's amazing the abuse these things can take without catastrophic failure!

believe me, it was hard for me to choose the 800 2 stroke over the 1100 turbo 4 stroke...

i REEEEAAAALLLYYY wanted lighter and bigger suspension still with some good power. i had a hard time giving up that immaculate thundercat to do it also, but im still having some withdrawls from the 1000, 2 stroke triple of the thundercat. it was very hard to choose the smaller motor over the bigger turbo motor. i still wonder if i made the right choice everytime i catch myself looking at supercharger/turbo kits for the 800...

maybe i need to pick up a 13 1100rr turbo still.........

Holy crap for pre-haydays sled sales activity! Guys are shopping for sure. I have had loads of traffic on my phazer ad.

Showed it yesterday and hope to be sending it down the road tonight. Now, I just need to keep my eyes open for a buddy shopping for an MXZ-X or GSX. He may pass his current GSX on to his son and get something for himself at Haydays.

i keep debating on dragging the old prowler along to haydays and putting a sign on it in the back of the truck.

it obviously isnt worth alot, especially since i can hardly get it to move... thought i had it running and riding fine last year after the wreck rebuild, but only rode it about 15 min for a test ride. then never ended up using it all year. got it out to bring home, and it cant even move itself across the grass... just no oomph.

tired of messing with it, but guess i'll have to give it another look over.

It's worth a lot more if it's running. If it can be pulled over and started, that's better than not. Even if it doesn't run well.

Well, it was a first year for my Dad and my Daughter this year. For us, the TerraCross event was it. That was worth the price of admission as far as she was concerned.

Spending quality time in the Polaris booth to meet Kody Kamm, Kyle Pallin, Levi, Burandt, Dan Adams was just icing! She thought all of those guys were awesome. She also loved meeting a former lady racer in the SkiDoo booth who had been racing since she was 6. That was a pretty inspirational discussion.

Seeing the new Yamaha YXZ with shocks the size of my leg was too cool.

Finding a wedding dress in the swap, that was just a hoot! Power shopping for a new jacket we decided she didn't need was fun too. Walking down that last random isle, to find the exact stock replacement windshield we were looking for was total luck.

Finding ice cold beer in the back of the truck at 4pm for a short tailgate session was MONEY!

We made the most of this day. Sorry my attached video is mostly TerraCross, but I think the shot over the drag strip as the sleds take off is pretty cool!

sounds like you had a great trip! We only went saturday, had a very busy/very loooong day.

parked right next to this when we got there, nice truck, stupid exhaust...

we wandered all over the place. i ordered myself a new clutch kit for the 800rr at show special price. looking forward to seeing what it will run like this winter!

http://bikemanperformance.com/snowmobile/arctic-cat/procross-proclimb-800/bmp-procross-stage-2-clutch-kits.html

so you bought your daughter the wedding dress from the swap and told her she had to hold on to it for a few years yet?! lol

we obviously did alot of shopping also, that is one of the main other reasons for the thing i guess...!

i spent probably an hour of the day overall, stopping and restopping to look at these sleds...

brand new 2013 1100 turbo 162" $8900...

brand new 2014 M8000 Sno Pro Limited 162" $8799. i really liked the way this one looked. and the first time i sat/stood on a sled with the telescoping bars. i really like that and am thinking of fitting them to my 800rr because i stand alot on that.

2013 M800 Sno Pro 162" $7999... yes, EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS?!?!

i have really been wanting to get onto mountain sleds, but i keep having to tell myself i live no where near anyplace to make use of one. realistically i could make maybe one trip a year ou west or something... maaaayyybbbeee 2. i cant invest that kind of money in something i MAY get to use once or twice a year... if i get a used one, and find myself getting more opportunity to go, then that may change.

we also went coat/boot shopping. i didnt NEED a coat, but you know how it goes.

my new castle jacket

Jenn's new castle jacket

then i got a set of Klim boots, and she found a set of FXR's. also found her some better gloves, and i grabbed another set of 509 goggles so i have a set to swap out of the goggle bag on the sled. this has their brand new photochramatic lens, the one i grabbed is blue in the light and changes to clear in the dark. i was looking for a clear for at night anyway because if the procross's sub par light setup, and the blue does good in early morning, late afternoon light.

while at the Klim booth, they had a competition going on. "hang with Klim" you get one entry for lasting more the 30 seconds, and 10 entries for lasting more then 2 min 30 seconds, while wearing their Klim gloves and hanging from a set of snowmobile bars.

miss workout/crossfit woman couldnt hack it. she made it 1:10(although she did have a cut up finger so i'll give her a break) apparently the Dr's where right when they told me i have way above average grip strength(tore up my left forearm years ago requiring extensive surgery to rebuild it, so they did alot of testing, and they were amazed at my grip strength even on the damaged side) we saw dozens and dozens of people do this while we were there and i was the only one to hang up there for the allotted time :-) hopefully i win that full Klim snow getup or that all expenses paid trip to their headquarters to go out mountain riding with some of there riders! fat chance...

i would love one of these! effectively you ride it like a skateboard for the most part

and i keep hoping someone will make a kit to fit my husky SM610...

Jenn almost ended up with this coat

and she really wanted this hat!

sharp old chevy at the the fox booth

this would be fun! and there was another big orange one there with a HUGE stereo in it.

the old cat race sleds are so cool

oh, the trouble i could find!

thought abut making this guy an offer out in the parking lot, but never did and he was gone when we got back out to the truck. sled stacker storage setup.

and we ended the day with some after haydays drinks and supper. Jenn had to use her new snowboot coozie we got free at one of the booths(ok free after a big purchase... lol)

it was a good trip, but i spend way to much when we go... and i barely even made a small dent in walking through the swap...

oh well. season has officially begun!!!! right?!?!

a quick turn and burn trip to Rochester yesterday, got me an older enclosed aluminum 8.5x10 2 place Floe tiltbed. needs a small amount of tlc, but not to bad.

kept looking at the 8.5x12's but a used one is hard to find, and the best i found new were tritons 8.5x10 $2800 and 8.5x12 for $3200. which is way more then i wanted to spend on one currently. this one will fit what i currently own(the 121 track sleds and new 129") and the guy said he had been using it to haul 2 144 polaris sleds, so it could still fit my dads 141 m7 if i end up getting that from him.

i got it for a decent price, so if in a year or 2 etc, i need to upgrade i can move this one along.

Ok, ordered a new-to-me GPS today off Ebay. I have used my previous Garmin Nuvi on my Sled and bike for 3-4 years.

Without any rain/snow protection it's amazing that it lasted that long. It actually still works, but likes to reboot when tasked with thinking. Like when I am in Twin Cities rush hour and miss an exit, and it needs to recalculate. That sort of thing can get annoying.

As far as a handlebar GPS for trail maps, it works fine. Since I thought it was a good year to teach my daughter how to follow trail maps on GPS, it was a good reason to order another one.

It's amazing with the advent of Nav in many dashes just how expensive these things still are new, but dirtball cheap used.

I ordered a used $200 Nuvi 5" unit for under $45 shipped. It's used, but I don't care. I'm putting it on my sled bar riser in two months anyway. As long as the Redpine Mapping loads, I will be happy.

On the other hand, if it does work out well, it will be a nice addition to my Buell and hopefully won't reboot when I am looking for the next exit.

Of course, I will have to record a new top speed this season on my sled!
