And then there are track days in the rain. Last one I attended they just left the track "open". All groups came and went as they pleased and with most going home instead, the track was nearly empty. That was a blast! |

I enjoy a good rain now and again.....as long as it is warm water! Amen to that. 300 miles in cold rain to Glitch Badness and 300 miles in cold rain back home in March was enough cold rain for me this year. |

I don't do rain, I go to the track quite a bit and everyone tells me to ride in the rain it will make you a better rider. Well buying a set of rain tires for $450 dollars, getting soaking wet leathers and boots is loony to me. Dry weather and save my money for slicks is a better alternative to me! |

Living in FL, we are almost to the rainy season where it will rain almost daily for 6 months, so it is almost a given you will get caught in a shower at some point. It sucks getting wet, but otherwise the traction was much better than I expected. The few times I had on my waterproof jacket, the rain was actually comforting because it wasn't so damn hot. I do worry about the other drivers though because the rapid increase in humidity seems to make people stupid. |

"traction was much better than I expected" Most folks would be surprised at the amount of traction you can get if it rains enough to keep the roads clean. I never had a wet traction issue when I lived in Seattle. I did have a dry traction issue once...it hurt a bit. |

People call me crazy for riding in the rain, but I just look at them and say, "It beats being out riding and getting caught in the rain, and not knowing how to ride in it, than to actually prepare to ride in it." That shuts up most people. |

I don't mind being wet. I'm in FL after all. It's an almost daily thing. I don't mind being cold. Being wet and cold is miserable. There's a few months here I kinda regret not having a car. The rest of the year I'm glad I don't. (Message edited by Rick_A on May 13, 2015) |

Guess my issue is I've never had rain gear if any sort. If I'm riding in the rain, I get soaked to the skin and hate it. What should I look for in rain gear? |

i love riding in the rain. maybe not when its 30's-40's, but a decent summer day ride in the rain is enjoyable. i find it kind of peaceful riding in the rain. the world sounds different. that being said, ive ridden in more then my share of snowstorms/blizzards also. ice, ive made it where i needed to go(usually home) but i wouldnt leave the house in that on purpose. |

The last two bikes I bought I left the dealer in the rain.Wasn't planning on buying either one so it kind of sucked because I didn't have the right gear.Did a track day partially in the rain.Put on my street tires and got taken on the inside by a kid on a 125 Honda GP bike with race rain tires.I was pretty proud of him.Accidentally road within a mile of a tornado in Florida. No cover and the rain hurt at 20 mph.I guess what I am saying is I don't prefer to ride in the rain but I don't let it get me down. |

Well riding in rain doesn't bother me that much ,it's part of motorcycle riding. Riding in a hailstorm with a dirt bike helmed on your head is fun |

Hail isn't bad on an XB, unless you forget and let a knee hang out. |

My XBR never liked the rain... ran fine but all the lights would take a crap any time there was more than a heavy fog. I once rode for about 4 hours through a rainstorm on my old CB750... with no helmet, just sunglasses. Tennis shoes, Jeans and t-shirt completed my ensemble, and it was quite fun. |

Metzlers are the best tires to rain imo. I can run 85 in a downpour. |

" I find it kind of peaceful riding in the rain. the world sounds different." I agree. When I work through my mental checklist, that the bike is good to go, tires are good, my rain gear is good, my luggage is good- I actually enjoy riding in the rain. It kinda forces you to relax, cut back the pace by about 1/3... and then you can take in the sights better than you might think. If anyone got a chance to see the recent movie "Under The Skin"- it's actually a pretty dang good sci-fi flick. There were several scenes in the movie that involved some impressive high-speed MC road work, IIRC one of the guys was Jeremy McWilliams. |
