I am lusting after EVERY bike in the above picture. Someday, I'd LOOOVE to own an S3T. All of those bikes are gawwgis, but didn't they make some with purple frames? Also, thanks for posting up the Buell Values. Wisdom can be a scarce thing- condensed, golden nuggets of true brilliance such as this creed are hard to come by. | ||

Thanks Bozo! That's a kewl looking ride, but I DO remember distinctly seeing a few with purple frames- I happened upon a dude once waaay up on the Cherohala who had one of the sweetest tube frames I'd ever seen... Oh well. I'd be hard pressed to add a third bike at all, much less one of these. 2015 should bring me a good D/S bike sooner or later... | ||

So is there ever any hope of moving boards to a better/friendlier software? Lots of people on here, myself included, that would be filling to donate time and money to the project. And it seems that all of the people against it are against it for the 'wrong' reasons ("everyone that i like is here..."), reasons that dont really matter as the same people would be on the new board. | ||

I like the format on this board. I've found all other boards to be MUCH more cumbersome to try and navigate, find pertinent topics, etc. The simplicity of this board appeals to me. No silly avatars, special sayings, list of likes, etc. to go with every comment by the authors to clutter the pages up. I understand the issues with the vintage of the software and maintenance, but I'm only commenting as a happy user. It has nothing to do with the people I know here, as most would hesitate to admit knowing me!!  | ||

Don't start the argument arguing for a solution, start the argument by defining the problem you are trying to solve. What can't you do with this board that you want to do (specific and objective, not subjective and opinion based)? | ||

This board supports them too. Most of the "bling" has been disabled over the years due to repeated abuse.
Reliably send/receive PMs. Attach file types that were invented after 1996 like Docx Break threads into easy to view and numbered pages Search within a thread Block users Tag threads Automatically resize pictures, as that is difficult to manually do on a mobile device. One click post quoting | ||

All the "silly" stuff could be turned off in the "modern" forums too. Should be able to move the usernames, but passwords would likely need to be reset. Would be nice to have contiguous threads instead of being broken into archives by post number or by time limit. Standard formatting would be real nice. | ||

"What can't you do with this board that you want to do (specific and objective, not subjective and opinion based)?" easily post video and pictures PMs that are easy to use (ex: I got a PM yesterday, when i received PM I have to copy and paste email address into a new email to reply to it...no other board is like this) 'bump' older threads up, on here once it goes to archive its gone. So if you get on here and search for something, you might find a thread that deals with your topic but you are unable to reply to that topic with any hope that someone will see your reply. speaking of searching... | ||

Those are good clear problems that could be solved. 1) Good presentation and accessibility of all posts and threads in a consistent context and appearance, regardless of age. (i.e. no archived threads) 2) Simple posting and inclusion of both hosted or externally referenced images, sound files, and video files. 3) Highly reliable private member to member messaging service. | ||

Agreed with the need, but the quote capability here is the best I have found. Simple and fast, just copy, paste, and put \quote{blah} around it... | ||

Better support for a variety of video files would be nice, especially if it's true that youtube is about to break what we have. Better support for image files too. The current PM system is weak at best. Still, there is a certain elegance in the simplicity of this board. It's not the software that makes it a good board though. It's the content. Is The Adventures Of Huckelberry Finn a better story read on a Kindle? | ||

Hybrid, You are starting to sound like you should start your own Buell bulletin board. This is Blake's board and he will lead it. It is way more than OK to make suggestions here but accept the fact that it might not change. I personally don't mind the look and feel of Badweb. The best argument for change is that Discus will ultimately crash and be unsupported. The same is true of Buell parts availability. (Message edited by reindog on February 19, 2015) | ||

There is so much stuff scattered all over the page it's nearly impossible to read. Each and every post has a "signature" that contains more stupid information about folks, avatars, ownership history and so forth . . than you ever want or need to know.. I suppose it has lots of bells and whistles. Perhaps that's why we get tapped for $$$ every year citing the fact that it's "very expensive to operate". The search function is dodgy . . but I always seem to find pretty much what I am looking for, I am . . But, if I am not mistaken, Froggy said that this forum has the same possibilities -but that it is turned off. The same could be done with vbulletin or phpbb (I mayve mentioned this before on this thread or elsewhere, have owned/ran two phpbb sites, so I know things can be turned on/off). phpbb is free (I THINK Vbulletin costs, or at least it did a decade ago) and all the sig lines etc could be disabled just like here. An above poster asked for legitimate, non-opinionated reasons for a change, several have been brought up. Yes, I remember your posts about ERB/WSBK, but understand your frustration with searching for them. Ive said it before (in this thread, I believe), I am glad that Blake made this board and certain posters are on here, the amount of knowledge is unreal. Just stating that there are far superior versions of discussion boards available that wouldnt have subforums dropped off randomly, while offering things such as easy quoting, posting pics/videos, and PMing | ||

I see no compelling reason to change if Blake is familiar with the current product and able to manage it. The time will come, as the EBR Owner's Group emerges, that Badweb will slowly begin to self extinguish anyway. These things have a finite life. Badweb's heyday was around 2000 and, at this point, it's greatest value is serving as a repository for knowledge as Buell support ebbs. Having gone through that with Buell Motor Company, before Buell Motorcycle Company, I've got a sense of the events and the timing along the way. It is good, as there have been a lot of folks acquiring used Buells as they become silly cheap, and Badweb serves as pretty much the only, in concert with American Sport Bike, source of reliable information. | ||

subforums just disappear Don't for a second think that this can't happen with other software. It's all just a relational database, and indexes get corrupted, even in the biggest/best ones. I really don't see this as a big issue. The PM thing is a bigger issue IMO, but how necessary is it really to "fix" any of it? | ||

" Im sorry, but I disagree with this I dont see BadWeb going away as EBR machines grow, the amount of information here, though sometimes hard to access if it's older, is invaluable. I can see a EBR forum getting big, but that doesnt mean people will migrate away from this because of that. Many people, myself inlcuded, cant afford an $18k motorcycle, but a $3k tuber is easy to get. | ||

Sifo -I am sure it CAN happen on other forums, but I've never seen it/experienced it. Is it important to have an easy-to-use PM system...nah, not really. But if the cost is the same monthly then why not have the features/benefits to make the easier to use and access? | ||

Indeed. It looks like they are gone now, but at one point you could go into the archive and look at the posts from the late 90s and early 2000s and see the avatars. You used to be able to vote on posts up till sometime in 2007. That stuff can easily be enabled/disabled in Vbulliten too. I understand signatures cluttering a board, but personally I don't mind avatars, they help me identify with people, but I do understand that they are easily abused by people not wanting to stick with the PG rated theme of the board.
Phpbb absolutely blows, it ranks as the second worse forum software, behind Discus of course  We have the license for VB already (not sure if it still works with the current version
Likely is just terrible management. While the more popular a board is the more it will cost to run, just simply being on Vbulletin is not why it is expensive. |
