Now that's what I'm talking about!
This article brings back many fond memories of Ascot Park in Gardena, CA.
No Friday night high school foot ball for me...

Wish I could have seen it. I remember subscribing to the Harley magazine (more of a newspaper actually) back then (inspired by watching "Then Came Bronson") and seeing pics of Mert Lawwill. It's cool that he's still around.

Cool Stuff !

I had the honor to attend speedway races at the Orange Co Fairgrounds about that time. 'Leapin' Larry Huffman as the announcer, Billy Gray riding, the Billy Gray fan, and the nights big sponsor, Capt Sticky. Good times ....

Thanks for posting.
Great quote: "It was a Lawwill show with no questions asked except, ''Why does H-D want to give up on the old sidevalve 750's? They get faster with age."
I have to think it was more the rider than the bike.
Must have really been something to see.

The Wednesday night MX was fun too. What bike did that HUGE guy ride? At least he was out there while I was in the stands.

here's a brief report from the front lines of flat tracking TODAY:

regarding all those supa heroes of flat track's Golden Age -
yes, it's all true, they were amazing riders on wild machinery roosting round the ovals nationwide

many greybeards've been hooked ever since.....

regarding many of TODAY's leading racers enjoying flat track's genuine re-birth -
they are equally amazing riders [including women] on more sophisticated machinery, roosting nationwide
round many of the the same ovals [now very well-prepared & better administrated by AMA Pro]

EVERY race fan should attend these elemental, entertaining, truly competitive contests -
they're literally the root of so many other forms of M/C racing

it's as simple as that !!
