Mark-Hans Richer (Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Harley-Davidson) says: “These new bikes are leaner, yet still have a mean streak – they’re the real deal, made of real steel. They’re designed to handle the abuses of urban environments and provide authentic opportunities to customize."

Oh.
Really?
Ok then.
My melon explodes with joy & enthusiasm, not.

Anyone know where the lump was sourced or is it in house designed?
If they really have come up with an all new motorcycle, I shall say "well done" to them.

I shall however not likely be buying one as I probably wouldn't be able to match the authenticity of the customizing opportunities it provides, & I have no need of orange underpants.

If I had to guess...I'd say mini-VRSC. They even call it a "Revolution-X" motor, where the VRSC motor is the Revolution. 60 degree twin, 4 valves, guessing DOHC, liquid cooled...

The original Revolution was 1130; current is 1250. Shrinking it would be simple enough...

I really don't think it is a VRod motor in any way. It has none of the VRod styling ques. I think it is a pretty small engine maybe the size of a Honda Ascot or early Shadow.

But they closed Buell to "focus on their core business" of selling overpriced overweight bikes (and clothing) to overweight middle aged men. Unless they are priced like their Japanese competition, along with an ad campaign to let the buying public know that they've seen the future, and they aren't in it unless they change, I expect dismal failure.

It'll be interesting to see how they stack up vs comparable bikes, such as the small kawi vulcans and even tho it's air cooled price wise it's on par with the Bonneville line.

HD does make a good product. Their R&D has developed a lot over the last 10-15 years. However, they are exclusively in the Harley business, which only overlaps with a small percentage of the MOTORCYCLE business. A handful of folks will find these to be "their" motorcycle. Meanwhile, MILLIONS of people will ride motorcycles that outperform these models in every way, at a much cheaper price.

Price wise it may be, but a Bonneville looks all kinds of awesome and works well as a standard bike. These may work OK, but the looks just scream wannabe cruiser to me.

Of . . perhaps we apply the same metric many did to the EBR 1190RX . . "no way I am buying an untested bike".

The looks have no appeal to me. In that range I'd go Triumph. The only HD I'd consider, and I confess a special affinity, is an FLH. It is what a Harley-Davidson is supposed to look like.

I've heard the phrase "big ol' Harley" . . . never the phrase "cute little Harley".

I do admire their quest to reposition themselves,

Funny how they kick Buell out the door but are still looking for a motorcycle to attract younger buyers. HD is going to be in big trouble in a few years when their loyal consumer market goes away.

I don't see this as a bad step for HD. Close to 100 pounds lighter than the current Sportster. Hopefully with liquid cooling, it has similar, if not even better performance than the Sporty. No doubt they will be crying out for better suspension, but after market deals well with that.

I have my doubts that with a 60 degree liquid cooled twin that they will be accepted as an HD by the core HD riders. Many HD sales people have that same mentality. I'm guessing that many shops will have these in a dusty corner until someone drags over a salesman and forces them to sell one of these "wannabes".

Personally, I've had it with HD dealers near me. Wandell still sucks IMO. Bikes though are just an assembly of parts that either work well or don't, and either excite you, or don't. If they have good quality, I could see one of these, except that would make me dependent of a-hole dealers that I have written off for good. I'm more likely to wind up with a Bonneville.

Should be called the "poser special" for newbies of any age. 60 degree v-twin to keep the Harley sound; bad black and from their commercial: tatoos, black leather, open face helmets & babes, life style oriented toward the TT crowd (tavern to tavern). Oh well it'll probably sell well to that kind of rider. More of HD life style propaganda but it does sell to the uninformed & unexperienced. Not my cup of tea at any age!

In a big departure for the Milwaukee-based company, the new motorcycles will be manufactured at the company’s recently-opened facility in India and exported around the world,
while North American-bound models will be produced at its Kansas City factory.
For $7k I don't believe that for a moment.

The whole bike is hyosung based. What a POS.

"Who needs Buell when you have ATK/Hyosung? The tiny American dirt bike maker will partner with the Korean giant to produce a range of small-capacity street bikes that will be distributed at US Harley dealers. Discussing the announcement, ATK CEO Frank White said, “[Hyosung] will send parts from Korea, and we will integrate those with our own American and European parts. These American-Utah-assembled motorcycles will be targeted to be sold through a select group of Harley-Davidson dealers who are looking for a quality smaller-displacement motorcycle.”

Assembled, I think is likely the correct technical term.

Manufactured implies being constructed from component parts.

If that's true, and given the price point it likely is, then this thing is never going to be well received in HD dealerships.

it will go well overseas - doubtful in the US.
IF they do the buy back program were they take it back in two years with X number of miles and give you MSRP toward a big twin - they will sell a bit of them, other wise, there will be a dusty corner for them

it does remind me of the Honda Ascot though

Well, they needed a Blast replacement for the MSF courses.

Also a cheap way to get folks used to water cooled HD's.

Too many grudges here for unbiased opinions though. (not that I would buy one myself)
