No ABS is a let down. Add the price and MAJOR lack of dealers. I'm thinking it will be an uphill battle. Heck, you can get a complete electronics package with the big 4 bikes now let alone BMW, KTM, or Ducati. Heck, with the last 3 you have an ok dealer network. EBR has some serious work ahead of them and they will need to get the price down on that bike to at least $15K to be considered. With their lack of an electronic package though to only traction control, I would say $13K would be more reasonable. $19K is just to much.

As an aside, they have 3 years to work this thing out and it looks like they just ignored where the industry went with electronics. Disappointing at best.

>>>I remember a day when you spoke highly of how HD ran things.

Many do.

I owned 9 Harley-Davidsons at that time, was doing speeches for their Chairman (like the NFL Player's Banquet with Deion Sanders and Christian Okoye) and attending each and every IMS show for 2 years running.

At that time Rich Teerlink, perhaps one of the great visionary business minds and author of Well Made in America, was the Chairman and things we very different at Harley-Davidson.

For example . . at their 85th Anniversary Rich and Ann Teerlink and I rode from San Francisco to Milwaukee. In those days, Harley-Davidson executives rode motorcycles.

That seems like an eternity ago and what a shame it is, at present, to see an American icon in such disarray. I was interviewed for an upcoming documentary recently and a fellow, candidly on the side, asked me "how bad is it?" . . and I told him . . . ."how "visionary" to you think HD can be when they announce to groundbreaking of the new Buell World HQ Buidling (they'd already bought the ground across I-43) and then, 90 days later, take a $250,000,000 write down to trash Buell"

They are all over the place.

I have one other gripe, but it's personal. Keith Wandell has bad manners. No a big deal in business, but it made a lasting impression on me.

I enjoyed all my Harley-Davidsons. I was nuts about them . . so nuts I bought my 1977 XLCR Cafe Racer and my 1983 XR-1000 the same day . . .bought 2 dressers in the same week and rode the piss our of them without any problems.

Fun time indeed.

I confess I am curious to know if Wandell ever did take those riding lessons he was promising to take. Unfortunately a lot of executives, some you know, left without so much as 2 weeks notice just to get out of the cesspool the place had turned in to so I never heard.

That may be mostly be true...TODAY, 10/17/2013.... but I bet it won't be in 6 months. Couldn't you upgrade the software for these bikes mentioned via a quick service upload?

Man, I haven't heard that name in a long time, but Christian Okoye was awesome in his day.

The BMW really was the only one that came out of the box with electronics. They developed this bike and I'm guessing racing will help develop electronics for the future model. Like I said earlier crawl before you walk. EBR is many ways is still in early stages of developing at the race track. They need HP and top end amongst other things and I'm sure in time they will get there.

Not to veer off topic but when I hear the name Christian Okoye I think of the lick put on him by Steve Atwater.

I'm hoping the EBR AX is out soon. Otherwise the new KTM 1190 ADV is pretty tempting.

Xdigital, I was personally wondering why, with wheel speed sensors front and rear, they didn't include ABS.

On a side note. I said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm eagerly awaiting the '25 Years of Erik Buell Racing' book. Oh, and Court's autobiography with each, and every one of the "remind me to tell you" stories we hear of...

With the new RX, will you have to remove the belly pan to do oil changes?

from the top down, the outline of the seats is really similar to the XB S series. Neat.

I wonder if that airbox cover would fit a normal XB?

FWIW, the airbox cover from an RS won't fit an 1125R. It's longer. Not to mention that it mounts differently. RX might be different.

According to Court's earlier post in the thread (http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=4062&post=2364064#POST2364064), almost nothing is a direct fit from the RX to the 1125.

There was painstaking attention to NOT using ANYTHING that was, or could be argued to be, Harley-Davidsdon intellectual property.

As stories will one day reveal there was one particular area that got particularly entertaining in that some amazing and ground breaking engineering and development had been done without the mothership being aware of it. Wasn't so much concealment as they were consumed with other things.

The "what if . . . . " scenario . . . . fueled by huge potential saving of not having to return to square 1 of the development process took place but was largely an exercise in entertainment.

Not only does EBR not need to be engaged in any sort of squabble with someone who has more attorneys than EBR has employees . . but, and I've seen this play out before, Erik just wouldn't do it.

In addition to being a damn good engineer, Erik's sense of ethics and "doing the right thing" are the gold standard among businesses. . . its' infectious and permeates the entire EBR culture.

Well, i'll just have to break out some bondo and fiberglass when I get home and make a more aggressive looking airbox cover for my 1125. The XB airbox covers just look deflated and tired after staring at the EBR models for so long.

Erik Buell, you are one heck of an American.

I'd like to know more about their swirl induction theory. I'd imagine the shape of the intake manifold would be a prime candidate for creating that swirl, but it seems like the cross-sectional size reduction of the intake valve ports and the intake valves themselves would create a lot of turbulence and greatly reduce the "swirl" once the air gets into the cyl.

"I'd like to know more about their swirl induction theory."
Didn't the RR (maybe RS too) open one of the intake valves sooner than the other to induce a swirl? But looking at some of the launch slides a recall seeing something mentioning bypass port or something... wondering myself if it's a different head casting for the port itself.

when speaking of Harley Davidson, it pains me to even go to there stores because they have totally screwed-up all of the motorcycles that I liked. And to think I once went ther wanting to purchase a Harley and was sold a Buell instead! I now think I was the luckiest person on earth. I own the best motorcycle ever made, a 2006 Buell XB12X Ulysses and I'm NEVER going to get rid of it either!!!
