Abuse? Hardly. I've got no use for atheists mocking religion and then claiming they were just having a walk. A parade with no permit? Try that anywhere and see what happens. I doubt dude was arrested for wearing a pasta strainer on his head. More likely for refusing to disperse from the illegal parade route.

I'm not advocating use of any sort of arms or even resistance.

I wouldn't be using a lightweight plastic thing full of highly combustible liquid that's all.

Mind you, if you did, you could probably sue the manufacturer for not stating clearly enough that
"Use of the Super Soaker as a flame thrower may cause INJURY or DEATH."

Throw in the Ethanol Mandate, aka Burning Food, and you can see that while the population of the planet has grown, very little extra food is being shipped.

This is WHY they had "The Arab Spring" revolutions. There are always revolutions in times of near famine.

You kind of have to wonder how many people who are starving recognize that here in the US we burn food for fuel. It's a pretty stupid idea when everyone is well fed. To a starving person, it's got to be like a sharp stick in their eye. This goes beyond the hatred that the have-not's tend to have for the have's. Just imaging being hungry and watching as someone else goes out of their way to burn food.

I really don't know if this is understood by these poor countries. I tend to think it probably isn't understood by the uneducated masses. Imagine the hatred that would be generated toward the US if they ever came to understand this though. For us to do this in a world with starving people seems unconscionable to me. Yet, somehow, this is what our policy has become. Burn our excess food right in front of the starving masses.

Wow. You guys decrying organic farming are either really just plain stupid, or have an agenda.

The costs of large scale chemical farming run much deeper than just food production, and the yield on properly managed small scale natural and organic farms is quite high, not to mention the environmental benefits of crop rotation, cover crops and etc.

I could find some B.S. article on the internet and post it here to support pretty much any idiotic or agenda pushing OPINION I wanted to.

Large scale farming has it's place.

As does small farming.

To say otherwise is Fascist. And really just kind of mean.

"I could find some B.S. article on the internet and post it here to support pretty much any idiotic or agenda pushing OPINION I wanted to."

Is it your opinion that the articles I linked are B.S.?

The only opinion I posted is that organic farming is immoral, which I am entirely entitled to.

The rest of the posts were factual. You on the other hand provided no facts, just opinion, and nothing to back up that opinion.

And yes, as I confessed several times, I was pretty angry that day.

Please provide links to articles that show organic farming achieving the same (or even close to the same) yield as standard farming.

The mass starvations predicted in India never materialized. A direct result of modern farming techniques and technology.

What the heck, let them go back to the old ways. Who cares if half the population dies off?

If you want to farm organically, enjoy.

If you are smart, you can pull a profit, which is great!

It's back breaking labor. A lot of satisfaction in it. I know my Mother enjoys her Tomatoes and other garden produce.

You want to feed a planet on "pure organic farming"? No problem. Just know that half of the people now alive will die. Horribly. There will be war, which may raise that toll to 3/4 of the planetary population. Probably won't be you.

It's a heck of a way to return to "made in America". Since we won't be buying all that stuff from China. After the famine, plagues, and nuclear strikes the Chinese government will use on it's own folk. Maybe you won't make it. You live near a US port? D.C.? NYC?

Ah, don't worry about it. After all, it'll save a bunch of money on foreign aid. Far less people to save. A lot of dictators will die in the Organic Wars, but they are temps anyway, in the grand scheme. New warlords will replace them.

Maybe we'll finally get rid of some of the more stupid "countries" formalized by the Euro Powers after WW1.

That's not pessimism, that's inescapable reality. We simply cannot feed the planet with 19th century tech. Half will die, at least.

Slowly, for the unlucky ones.

Those "scare you because we're overpopulated and going to die" books were right.... but not complete. The authors didn't know that technology the US developed would make it possible to have 6+ billion people on this planet. Without that tech, or, preferably better, it can't.

AND, I agree that "conventional" Industrial farming has severe problems. Phosphates alone are a planetary issue. ( unlike, say, Freon, which was mostly bogus )

I'm not prepared to say that the back to nature movement, organic farming, per se, is immoral. For individuals.

But what is SOLD to people as "better" and "organic" is just big profits for rich guys. "Organic" is a buzzword.

But the elite rich who want to live forever in purity of essence can enjoy whatever lifestyle they want. I don't have a problem with Ted Turner loving his Bison steaks.

If "they" want to IMPOSE that utopian life on others, though........ and they do, THAT's immoral in the extreme.

The First Lady and her well meaning assault on obesity in kids, shows some of the insanity involved.

Yes, our poverty stricken, and far too many of our middle class, is obese. Quite a change from past situations, eh?

But we have growing children rationed food under Michelle's Diet Plan, because centralized one size fits all does not work. Ever. It's results are evil. Almost always.

Also insisting that Podunk Elementary serve Kale and boutique foods bites into an already stretched budget. We could argue all day on how our education dollars are spent, but I'll skip that part and just ask you to assume a multi-page rant on "education" and indoctrination/propaganda. Assume I go overboard and froth at the mouth. I bet you even agree with most of it.

A week or so ago, I saw a news clip about a powdered food that a (chemical-scientist?) developed to use as a direct replacement for food in the future. but I can't find anything anywhere about it. (SoylentGreen)

Much truth to this statement: Organic farming is a rich snob idiot phenomena. As are many of the buyers (I used to work at Whole foods)

"For individuals"

Agreed. I have a garden. I don't use chemical fertilizers. I also don't use heavy metals to kill fungus. That's what the "organic" guys do.

Some Brits are all gung ho on "printing" food.

Soylent Pink may be a big seller. I have to wonder if it's cheaper to just raise rabbits. ( possibly, and I don't have numbers handy, the cheapest meat if on an industrial scale. Chickens are probably more profitable if you include eggs. )

Rant on.

Vegetables have a wide mix of chemicals in them. "food supplement" companies fill pills with chemicals that are the same, or close, to Some of the ones in a vegetable. Lots of buzz words, like phytoxxxxx are supposed to make you think the New Pill is going to give you the same health benefit as actually eating some broccoli.

Not so much.

But the Industry has spent a LOT of money making sure they don't really have to prove anything, benefit or harm, and most of this stuff is pure snake oil. ( with no snake involved, except the ones after your money )

End rant.

Don't get me started on Homeopathic.

I'm not saying that "vitamin" pills are a total rip off. Not usually. Not usually all that awesome, either. There are a host of herbal products that work. Ok, a few. For some people.

More important, is a Swat Team going to bust down your door & shoot your dog, or children, at 1317 Mockingbird Lane because they got a tip that there's a dealer/terrorist/tea party organizer at 1312?

50 people shot dead by police by mistake in military assaults really isn't a big deal, statistically, in a country of 200 million, unless you are one of them.

Hey, the latest fun rodent for dindin is the guinea pig... large scale operation, much more sensible than bovine production, easy to process, surely more protein than squirrel.

Everyone's heard about chicken and waffles, how about a pancake on a guinea pig? Mebbe guinea pig crepes?

Oh man, don't get me started. When my daughter, her husband and baby come to visit the first stop they make is at Whole Foods. $200 and 2 grocery bags later they've got a couple of days worth of overpriced, tasteless hype. After they leave I have to throw out whatever's left over because it tastes like cardboard. Even the dogs turn up their noses.
I've got a big garden and grow a lot of my own veggies, weather permitting, but there's no way I could even feed the two of us on what I could grow/raise at home.

Mr Grumpy, the Brit team was working on using a 3d printer to make food from prepared synthetics. Powdered & liquid diets usually are not very happy making, ( although the "soylent" guy seems thrilled ) so some texture and appearance is the "printed food" goal.

3d printing guns? How anti-totalitarian!
Despots hate an armed peasantry. Always been that way. Right now that kind of thing is a stunt........ but a Peoples Republic of California legislator already wants to ban 3d printers. They ruin the monopoly of "production". ( also are a serious copyright issue ) Since leftists are really for central control, home production is very scary to them. It takes away power from those who horde it, and gives it to the People. But that's a different discussion.......

"Vat grown meat" has been a Science fiction staple for about a century now. Like Star Trek Communicators, it's going to work it's way into our lives with little fanfare. You'll know it's "made it" when Trader Joes has a blurb for vat grown beef touting it's Organic & Ecological benefits. I give it 4 years?

Now, I make no claims at eating healthy. In fact I had Taco Bell for lunch. ( the winner in the restaurant wars in "Demolition Man" ) I have noticed that fad diets and fad foods are mostly hype, and only sometimes are really bad.

My favorite fad diet? Neaderthin. Only eat what our ancient ancestors had. Meat, vegetables, no processed sugars or grains. It works for a buddy of mine. It's also a continuing lifestyle. Otherwise you gain it back.
Least favorite? Atkins. Serious side effects are possible, and it has the same issue with any diet, you gain back more than you lost when you stop. ( and go back to pizza )

Fav fad food? Salsa. Now bigger than Ketchup, I used to have to go to a bodega in the P.R. neighborhood of town to get it.
Least? the list is long, but I will mention Tofu. In China, tofu is a garnish. A protein addition to a vegetable diet. Great stuff, and as normally seen in the US, uber bland. It's a flavor neutral blank slate. But. Eaten in modern American Yuppie quantities, it can cause serious hormone issues. OTOH if you want to go for growing your own Breasts and gaining sensitivity at the expense of virility, it's probably cheaper than going to a doc for Estrogen shots. I suspect the medical way is less risky. ( until you get to the actual sex change surgery, which is scary as heck to me. Since I don't want to be a fake woman, I don't worry about it. )

Hoot, I'm not really all that concerned with idiots protesting in a semi totalitarian society, as these folk did. They were looking for trouble. Maybe in Denmark or England or the U.S.A. you can protest like that ( as long as you don't hit a real taboo, like protesting Islam or Obama ) but Russia jails Rock bands for mocking the Glorious Leader. Still.

I was intending Irony.

Russia just banned PDA's for gay folk. Dang. jail for kissing? What is ironic to me is that the Soviets have been accused of pushing the Gay Rights Movement in the West to destroy our culture. ( since the 1950's at least. When was that famous speech? 1964?..... nope, 1963. see #26. ) http://rense.com/general32/americ.htm

In any event, getting busted for protesting in Russia is expected. Totalitarian regimes don't tolerate that stuff.

The US has far too many little private armies to make me happy, and the extortion and suppression by the IRS, etc. is looking epic. The Surgeon General has a paramilitary army. The IRS has one. The DEA has several. BATF is all about little commando wannabe raids.

How long before signing an online petition to Impeach your Governor, or President, get's your door knocked down at 3 am?

Where will YOU be when that call comes?

You have to realize that current fashion is for unrealistic body shape. Victoria's Secret models are, I suspect, Audioanimitronics.

You do know what Victoria's Secret is, don't you? She knows what you do with the catalogs....

Despite my rant on "organic" foods, healthy foods are a good thing.

Here's a report on whole chickens from the Cooks Country crew.
