Obligatory disclaimer.

Not all Prius Owners are Self Righteous Flaming A----les.
( not all Muslims are terrorists, not all anybody is anything! )

My Father drives a Prius, and is quite happy with it. He's on his second one and while he may qualify a bit for the SRFA position, he really only brags to me, who bought a different high mileage car, and as I'm sure you're aware, also may exhibit SRFA behavior. ( yeah, I brag a bit on my car... )

I've even seen a Prius with a bumper sticker that says "Yeah, I bought a Prius, but I dodn't vote for Obama". That doesn't prove that Prius owner isn't a SRFA, but it amuses me, and is heartening, as there must be a market for that sticker.

But. It's pretty much a clich'e that Prius owners often are SRFA's, and there is proof in the video above.

Thanks to the Dad who made this video for not going off, and recording this pile of bile for our amusement and horror. Gigantic wasteful noisy oversize..... indeed.

It's not a horrible car, the Prius. The technology that goes into it's drivetrain and design is quite good, revolutionary and extreeemly well calibrated for seamless, safe driving. I prefer something a bit more sporting, as a Prius is as exciting to drive as a loaded minivan or Station wagon. But it's not a bad car...

It isn't, perhaps, and depending how you spin the costs, the most Gaia friendly car on the planet, as shown below, but what the heck?

A repost, but fun.

Froggy tadpoles shouldn't tell the adults what we should or should'nt do.
In your way your acting just like her!
People choose their transport because they have differing needs for the vehicle. I have no use for a Prius I work for a living A Prius is a rolling EPA incident waiting to happen. It will more energy to clean it up for disposal that it ever saved in fuel cost. If you want to buy the truck of your choice fine with us pay your money live with your choice.
Pull out the condescending attitude and you may find people jacking you against the wall. Or in that woman's case she is no lady she would find herself on the ground screaming about the pepper spray and or foam.
Or the ever popular sorry I backed over your little pos 5 times. That's why we pay the big bucks for insurance!

I love hybrids and electric cars because they run for free. Just plug 'em in, toss the battery when it wears out, and feel good about how superior you are to other people.

A women who looked just like the gal in the video pulled into a handicap space, got out of her car and walked towards the store. I said, "Hey, you don't look handicapped to me!"
She asked "What are you, the parking police?" I replied, "Oh, I'm sorry, I bet going through life a fat ugly b*tch is a heck of a handicap."
Not my finest moment but you can see how they can get to you.

I didn't tell anyone what they should or should not do. You must be confusing me for yourself.

quote:

In your way your acting just like her!

Ummm what? So far it looks like you are acting like her.

quote:

People choose their transport because they have differing needs for the vehicle.

Not really, most people do not pick a vehicle based on their needs. Most people do not need the vehicle they are driving every day to work, they could easily get away with a smaller, cheaper, and more fuel efficient model, but it is their money to waste. There are some that do have need for certain vehicles for various reasons including needing the seating capacity, towing capacity, and so on, but those people are in the minority.

quote:

I have no use for a Prius I work for a living

I don't have use for a Prius either, and most people do work for a living.

quote:

A Prius is a rolling EPA incident waiting to happen.

Well given they have sold millions since the late 90s, I haven't heard of any being a rolling EPA incident yet.

quote:

It will more energy to clean it up for disposal that it ever saved in fuel cost.

I assume you mean the battery recycling cost, so here is a quick calculation of fuel saved on a Prius vs a run of the mill full size SUV (Chevy Suburban 5.7L) .

I don't know the cost to recycle the battery, but is it over $31k?

quote:

f you want to buy the truck of your choice fine with us pay your money live with your choice.

I agree 100%

quote:

Pull out the condescending attitude and you may find people jacking you against the wall.

I have not had a condescending attitude, but perhaps you should go re-read your own posts as of late. Name calling, elitist attitude, arrogance, I honestly thought you were above that.

quote:

Or in that woman's case she is no lady she would find herself on the ground screaming about the pepper spray and or foam.

Well I am a non-violent person so I wouldn't spray her just for yelling at me, I would have tried to defuse the situation better than the cameraman in the video, most people are fairly reasonable if you treat them with respect and talk to them like humans.

quote:

Or the ever popular sorry I backed over your little pos 5 times.

If I'm interpreting that right, you would destroy someones property because they annoyed you?

quote:

I love hybrids and electric cars because they run for free

Which ones run for free? I'm yet to see any come from the factory with solar paneling. The panels get better and better each year, with more efficient cells, lighter weight, and lower cost. I've seen some installed aftermarket and on concept/prototype cars, but nothing you can buy retail. There were plans for there to be optional roof solar panels on the Volt but they didn't make it into the production model.

Can you define what handicapped looks like? You really can't. While some handicaps are very visual, like being confined to a wheelchair, there are many injuries and other conditions that are not immediately apparent. My girlfriend's father has back and leg issues and cannot walk very far. He can walk a short distance fine, but after a couple hundred feet he will be in excruciating pain.

But odds are the lady you confronted was just some lazy moocher abusing the system, like a co worker of mine who uses their mother's handicap tag. While he can legally use the tag if he is driving his mother around, the problem is she died a few years ago, and I doubt he will throw it out any time soon.

Hey Froggy,

I was providing hyperbole on that woman's holier than thou attitude. Some people believe that plugging their vehicle into the wall socket has little cost in terms of dollars or nuclear power plants needed.

Can you define what handicapped looks like?
The original idea behind handicapped parking spaces was to provide enough space to unload a wheelchair (as in the picture on the sign). The mistake was putting them in the best spots. Of course now if you have a hangnail or broken shoelaces you can get a placard for your car.
I was blasting down I-70 the other day on the way back from Colorado when I was passed by a yellow Z06 corvette with HC plates.

That's the rub Froggy. Some of us are real tired of turning the other cheek. Some of us saw it for what it was, she wasn't being respectful, so why should I humble myself and beg forgiveness. Talk to them like humans? For anybody, it starts with practicing in the mirror first I guess!

And then she runs on at the mouth about the next generation, their children, do the same thing. It's people like her that are giving us the nanny-state! It's people like her that can't keep their noses out of other people's business. It's people like her that believe they have the high road because of their superior choices.

It's people like her that try to intimidate others to believe as she does. She asks, in a condescending tone, what he does for a living. She is the one judging, she is the one ranting, she is the one who needs an attitude adjustment, etc, etc.

Many of us see the excess, the waste in gov't! Many of us see this woman's attitude as an extension of that attitude, at the street level!

I have two cars in the driveway now that are a hoot to drive, were quite affordable (bought used), and get decent fuel economy (a Saab 9-3 and a Mini Cooper S).

Part of the reason I can get away with owning these cars is because my neighbor has a Ford F150, that I can borrow when I need to haul something big. I appreciate the fact that he owns it and shares it so generously.

eh, couldn't listen to more than a 30sec or so.
Would have been wiser to not engage. Leave the windows up and ignore the nosey bee itch. If she continued, tell her calmly that to stop harrassing or you'll call the cops. (maybe they did, I don't want to listen to that woman long enough to find out) It's a dumb thing to call the cops for, but if you've got kids in the car I'm thinking a cop is going to side with you over the woman yelling about exhaust fumes. And honestly I'd just continue to ignore her unless she tried to actually lay hands on my vehicle, then I'd call the cops with a legitimate concern over property damage and harrassment.

What state did this happen in? Are tasers allowed? Peppersray? I would not have let her within 5ft of my kid. She came over a 2nd time and yelled at the wife whilst holding their child? I thought she was gonna grab the kid or something. I would have got between her and my wife and said you need to get back in your car and leave before I have to defend myself. While your at it, start loosing weight because your the reason our insurance rates are so high. Maybe ask her how the diabetes is doing?

+1 Congrats to the cameraman. A younger me would have struggled with the urge to visit harm upon that wretch and/or her property. With age, I've come to realize no amount of logic will change an extremist's mind, and the law discourages the use of physical force, no matter how desperately they seem to be asking for it.

Chauly, Thanks for the "Peace Sign" photo. I've seen the stickers on the road but couldn't see the gun shop's name. Gotta get one next time I'm in Winchester.

First off, She is a B!t@h.

I drive a 1 ton 4x4 diesel pickup because it pulls my 10,000 lb toy hauler and boats and car trailer (not at the same time) much better than a prius. As a daily driver I get an average of 18 mpg tank after tank.

I would drive to work a small cheap car that gets good gas mileage but it doesn't pencil out. the cost to purchase and insure does not offset the fuel savings.

Instead, I ride my bike to work weather permitting. It does pencil out as a savings and it's much funner that 4 wheels.
