I've only put 180,000+ miles on my Buells, so maybe I missed something.
1998 S3-T - 60,000
2000 M2 - 55,000
2006 XB12X - 35,000
2008 XB12XT - 32,000
My 2006 Uly was the most reliable bike I've owned in 44 years of riding. All it needed was gas and oil changes.
None of them were "a piece of junk".
I think that when the EBRs are offered for sale, they'll have the bugs worked out. Erik doesn't have Harley-Freakin- Davidson to hamstring him anymore. He can build it right and not have to put up with Corporate chickenshit, like he had to previously from the Mothership.

$20k is indeed out of my reach at this time.

In the age of social media and YouTube, how cool would it be to have footage of Erik discussing the fine engineering traits of the new bikes while this guy performs in the background.

Slogan:

"EBR motorcycles...Extreme Engineering"

Crusty, weren't there bad wheel bearings in there somewhere that led you to jump ship for the Guzzi?

Or was that your wife's bike...TOO?

Yes, I had to replace the wheel bearings on both my XT and my wife's Ss. I had no problems with the 06 X.
I "Jumped Ship" for the Guzzi because I wanted a Sport-Tourer. The Guzzi is the type of bike I've been wanting since Buell discontinued the S3-T. When EBR builds a Sport-Tourer, I'll probably buy one.
Incidentally, last summer, I had to replace the front wheel bearings in the Norge. I don't care who the manufacturer is, if there are moving parts, some of them will break.

Wheel bearings are a consumable item, like discs & pads, they're not expected to last the life of a vehicle.

As for "Jumping ship", iirc the "ship" was scuttled.

We wouldn't be replacing wheel bearings if we used a proper wheel bearing you know a taper roller bearing. Yes you have to grease them once in a while, at the same time as a tire change. I never replaced a bearing on a bike until I bought a bike with sealed, so called never need servicing ball bearings.

as far as a October announcement of EBR bikes, It's too late to actually sell any motorcycles in 2013. If the motorcycles are not out by now, late February, they won't be selling this year. The International Motorcycle Shows has just rapped up and that pretty much closes this year's new motorcycles. Most all consumers that will be purchasing a motorcycle this year have already made up their mind. Maybe Erik can get his company up and running for the model year 2014.

I'm still riding my 2006 XB12X Ulysses, the best motorcycle ever built, so I'm not looking for another motorcycle at this time.

46champ,

I totally agree with you. The current sealed bearings are not designed for side loading that occurs.

October is an eternity. With the drooling that occurred with the 'leaked' pictures of the 1190, I figured we would have SOMETHING to drool over for a while. I'm shopping now. I'm ready to buy in the next three months, if I knew what was coming down the pipe, I just may wait. At this rate though, I may end up with something else...

That makes some sense, but new Buell (and HD) motorcycles were always announced in July, and the new models would begin showing up at the dealerships around October of the same year. It seems like that kind of thing could still happen under EBR.

Erik and company...please take a que from a fellow company rooted in racing. Something like this, featuring the new bike, would be really sweet. Social media is your friend. USE IT!

I love both my Buells but Erik and company have fallen into irrelevance to me.Not even on my radar.
I wish him luck but ,EBR is irrelevant.

Tired of hearing "coming soon"

I think they could have dove a better job too in terms of announcing plans, etc. I realize it is a monumental task though, but more info would be better. Otherwise, silence makes it look iffy that it will happen.

I figure that I have six orphan bikes now. Not such a big deal as parts are out there and people are making more, like TW for example, but.... I would have bought an RS already if I could see the tail coming. But for us peasants, it is a pretty big gamble.

I'm not giving up and they are not irrelevant. I am just careful.

I agree. Not irrelevant...but I am fully aware that they're back in the "the company can get in the van and go to lunch" days.

I can't imagine the workload.

And...any social media work would have to come from within. External production costs money, and I can imagine that's as tightly accounted for as personnel hours at this point in time.

I'm patient. And excited.

I am hopeful for the offerings from EBR.

I'm most interested in the SX and AX variants.

At $20,000, they'll be unobtainium.

At $15,000, they are still unobtainium.

That said, I'm willing to wait until the production quantities increase and the prices decrease.

I believe a 1995 S2 had an MSRP of $11,995.

That's $17,857 in 2012 dollars. For many in 1995, Buells were "too expensive".

At $20,000, Buell will sell 100% of every bike they sell.

Ducxl the bike is the easy part its building the company etc. The difficult part is getting through the EPA DOT CARB and the total waste of time alphabet soup agencies.
EBR is ERIK funded He is building his cash flow with Hero and others I suspect to build EBR into Eriks company. Preventing the Wandells of the world controlling him !
The cookies are baking wait till they are done!
We want new model EBRs but we also want Erik to prosper and reap the rewards of his work.

"Your most important customer is the one you have right now."

Right now EBR's paying customers are Hero and the 100 1190RS owners. I'm betting that the influx of Hero funding has actually re-prioritized EBR resources to ensure they continue to have cash coming in FIRST and allowing them to continue development of the 2-wheeled Ferrari that has to sell for $10K so people posting here will buy it. Why do you think the 1190RS is so expensive? They had no customers but worked up a "no holds barred", government agency-approved design + provided needed cash to the R & D side for the NEXT customer product. Now try and build that bike on the cheap? What's the big deal, eh?

Wow. Tough crowd! Just my 2 cents. As you were.

I'm happy to hear things are moving forward, and I'm really curious to see what's shown in October.
Like FB said earlier Buells were not cheap and I never thought the prices would come down, but they did and I eventually got one... then I *had* to get another ; )
I can see history repeating... I won't be able to afford a 2014 model, but maybe a 2016 will work. I'm thinking my next bike will be something along the line of a Uly-Tiger-G/S-990SM, something that'll do everything with some storage space (am I getting old and sensible?), so I'm curious to see what the "AX" is.

Another point is we may (hopefully) see the new bikes before October. The announcement says EBR is hosting their dealers at the AIMExpo in October 2013 where EBR will display its newest motorcycles. Maybe we'll actually see a press release and/or updated website well before that date.

One thing to think about for all the potential new 1190 buyers is, besides being patient and getting one of the very best street bikes available, is to sit back for a while AND throughly enjoy EBR racing this year to pump up your enthusiasm even more. I placed an order for my 1125R in Sept. 2007 after two years of Buell hype and it seemed like an eternity of waiting until I took delivery in Feb. 2008. Then I really enjoyed riding my bike and enjoying Buell racing until they took the DSB championship. It seems like we always want instant gratification for what we want but really, some things ARE worth waiting for. I've never enjoyed any bike as much as my 1125R and you will enjoy the 1190 even more.

I am thoroughly impressed by what Erik and the elves have achieved since October 15, 2009 and will wait patiently for the next EBR creation I can afford. I met Erik for the first time at NJMP 2011 and got the chance to sit upon the EBR 1190RS. ON the long drive home I had to talk myself out of a second mortgage to commit to the 1190RS Carbon Edition. When my time comes I will have an EBR bike in my garage.

So Erik keep doing what you are doing and I will get mine in time.

I'm hoping for an EBR that can match the comfort and versatility of my first 2000 M2 Cyclone, but with MODERN reliability.

I loved that bike; it was the most comfortable bike with the "Buell" logo I ever owned... but the damned thing spent almost as much time in the shop as it did in my garage.

The XB12Ss couldn't match the range on a tank of gas that I got out of the Cyclone and the footpegs put my legs in too cramped of a position.

The 1125R was just AWESOME, but had less range than the XB12Ss and combined the uncomfortable leg position with an uncomfortable upper body position too.

While the economy is faltering as it has been for the last few years, far wiser to hold off with new releases.
After all, Isn't that what bought BUELL down, that they couldn't sell bikes ?
People were not buying then and people are still not buying now !
There is a glimmer light at the end of the tunnel though, things are picking up.
Let's hope EBR live up to expectations when the apples are ripe and ready for picking.
