Hootowl, I guess 'crazies' like me need to be kept in check by thinkers like you :-). You are a pretty conservative lot for sure.
I'm not really out to convince anyone one way or another, but I do trust my own observations occurring in this country, and I do remember what the sky used to look like back quite a few years.
109th U.S. Congress (2005-2006) S. 517 [109th]: Weather Modification Research and Development Policy Authorization Act of 2005. This Bill was not passed and was removed from the books around 2007, I think. If nothing else, it shows intent.
"All things may indeed be possible. Not everything is feasible.
April 11, 2011
"The U.S. government has conducted weather modification experiments for over half a century, and the military-industrial complex stands poised to capitalize on these discoveries."
That makes it feasible.
"One of the latest programs is HAARP, the High-Frequency Active Aural Research Program. This technology can potentially trigger floods, droughts, hurricanes and earthquakes. The scientific idea behind HAARP is to “excite” a specific area of the ionosphere and observe the physical processes in that excited area with intention of modifying ecological conditions. HAARP is also a weapon of mass destruction, capable of selectively destabilizing entire regions."
"Another EnMod program is that of atmospheric geoengineering or cloud seeding, which has found new life since the global warming scare. Cloud Seeding is cirrus clouds created from airplane contrails. Unlike regular contrails, which dissolve in minutes, these artificial contrails can last for several hours…even days. At a recent international symposium, scientists asserted that “manipulation of climate through modification of cirrus clouds is neither a hoax nor a conspiracy theory.” The only conspiracy surrounding geoengineering is that most governments and industry refuse to publicly admit what anyone can see in the sky or discover in peer-reviewed research. As Dr. Coen Vermeeren, of Delft University of Technology, stated: “Weather manipulation through contrail formation … is in place and fully operational.” Currently, China conducts more cloud seeding projects than any other nation."
Thanks for the discussion. Summer is here, out to do some dirt riding.
"I'm doubting Chemtrails, JFK theories, and a lot of other stuff."
Aesquire, was reading another thread and saw your post. I usually visit Scott Stevens' site regularly because it just really interests me, and last night found this. Would you be kind enough to watch this longish clip and comment? There are some sound glitches.
There is a second clip by Clifford Carnicom.
None of this stuff is going mainstream anytime soon, but that does not mean it is not happening. This technology exists.
The other reason being that they're astronomically expensive to own and operate.
Only partly true. Yes, a brand new Cessna wil run you 3-5 times the cost of a luxury car, $150k+ and luxury models run half a million up. But that's a limited production plane, and there is almost no savings for scale. Homebuilts can run from the price of a Lexus up. If Ford built planes, ( and they used to. B-24s ) they could be no more expensive than a top line Lincoln. Some small homebuilts get great mileage at speeds over 100..
The car you can fly.... The problem isn't the mechanicals, it's the driver. A trained private pilot with hundreds of hours can certainly fly a flying car. A bunch of us here on Badweb wouldn't have a problem, with a short training course to teach us the controls and the avionics. ( the dashboard... speed, altitude, variometer, turn and bank. artificial horizons through fly the virtual road HUDs )
That need for some training applies to regular high time pilots too, that's why they have "type ratings". You'd think if you knew how to fly, you could just climb into a Cessna Stationair and fly away. They never made the dashboards standardized. I dare you to find the on button for the headlights in a strange airplane. ( there's a REASON they sell airplane dashboard posters. You set it on the wall next to your desk and find all the freaking buttons and memorize them so you can do it in the dark, upside down, on fire )
I'll venture to say that if you can handle a high performance motorcycle you have a good shot at being trainable to fly a plane. I'll go further and say if you can't ride a motorcycle, you'll never be a safe pilot. ( not counting physical disabilities )
Yes, you can teach a monkey to fly a plane. But let's just accept there is a certain minimum of kinesthetic sense, capability to reason in 4 D space time, and basic intelligence. ( none of which seem to be related, IMHO )
In essence. Most people are too stupid in one of those areas to safely navigate though the air.
So, as the video says, until you can make it robotic, you can't have them.
Used a separate wing etc. designed to fold and tow as a trailer.
Both need runways. So we have to wait for a vtol. This one is the typical thing. http://moller.com/dev/ Years in the making, real good design at this point, but I've never seen a video of it actually flying. Hovering, yeah. But not actually flying and transitions from vtol or stol to forward flight..... and back, which I argue is far more important, and hardest to do. Looks like they want to do the first untethered test flight with an audience and media.... which is a Bad Idea.
Damn it. Because I love that ferrari red Volantor and can't have one.
I do think a flying motorcycle sized flying machine is practical, but not for everyone.
A VTOL a/c uses massive amounts of fuel. Regardless of the purchase price, very few people can afford to operate one as a daily driver. The flying car, as depicted in the 70's as the car of the future, has failed to materialize. Point being that things envisioned 40 years ago are not guaranteed to come to fruition. Weather control devices among them.
Ouch! Well Aesquire, I guess that gets your opinion across pretty well :-). I am genuinely surprised.
Sifo, you should actually at least watch the whole darn thing before making that comment.
"I could already feel the void sucking at my intelligence." Really?
"I can see where this is going." Are you sure? I'm betting it could be too uncomfortable for you, but yes, there was a connection between my posts to do with energy fields.
I was interested in the views of some 'ordinary' American people in some subjects related to 'science and climate' that interest me. I guess I got them.
Thanks for your responses anyway. Didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable.
“My alphabet starts with this letter called yuzz. It's the letter I use to spell yuzz-a-ma-tuzz. You'll be sort of surprised what there is to be found once you go beyond 'Z' and start poking around!” Dr Seuss
Spoiler alert I listened to and watched Dr Wood video above....
Dr Judy Wood says at the 58 minute mark, in the context of giving her opinion.., "those who pulled off 911...."
After 58 minutes of discussing evidence and being scientific (to some degree) and seeming to be detached and objective about what happened on 9/11, she, with that phrase, reveals her identity as a conspiracy theorist.
Geedee my opinion that Dr Wood is only loosely using some scientific jargon ( some correct, some wildly wrong ) to make her irrational point has nothing to do with my opinion on the rest of your posts.
I haven't had time to watch the Chemtrail post above that. So withhold judgment.
the "Billy Madison" vid above is NOT intended as a comment on YOU, but on Dr Wood, who assures us that magnetism & gravity are related ( possibly true ) in ways that have been long disproven... that she is ignorant of basic facts, and believes some stuff I think stupid. ( like when I read the Seismograph from 9/11 I can clearly see the floors collapse exactly like predicted in the 1970's novel "Towering Inferno". Others see nuclear demolition charges.... go figure )
"Don’t be taken aback by the “C”(conspiracy) word. Whoever uses it to silence lucid and aware people do so because they know nothing is more dangerous to them than...lucid and aware people!" Adrian Salbuchi
This of course ignores Chemtrails, weather control machines, HAARP, and the Silurians of Dr. Who.
It also assumes that the Sun affects the weather, which is NOT a scientific view accepted by the United Nations.
I'm alternatively amused, and furious, that the CO2 rise on the planet in the last few centuries takes place AFTER the temperature rise, not Before.
Then again Cause & Effect being a linear time concept may just be too radical for the media to understand.
I, being an ignorant slut, keep thinking that if something happens first it's the cause. How foolish of me to think that a warmer ocean would give up CO2. Like my Coke.

Very cool video of the solar eclipse! Thanks for sharing that.
Is it time for the IPCC to spit out the new propaganda piece. I used to wait for these to come out to read them and cross check what they were telling us. I barely bothered to browse the last one, and couldn't care about this one. The IPCC has proven itself to be little more than a political organization writing pseudo-scientific papers that support a political agenda. They are among the worst that humanity has to offer.

I often joke that "I took meteorology, unlike Al Gore." It's true, but it's a joke because Al has made hundreds of millions of dollars off people on a Climate Con, and I haven't. So who's smarter? ( Who's Honest? is perhaps a better Question. )
back in the 1970's I was very into weather, micrometeorology, aviation weather and Aerodynamics. Gleaning from the available weather information the specific data I needed to determine 2 important to me things. Wind speed and direction. Probability of vertical air flow.
I needed to know which way the wind was going to blow to pick which mountain I was going to drive to, climb, and fly from. If I guessed wrong, the day, and several bucks were shot. I needed to know if there would be vertical weather to see If my day was going to be a sled run down a mountain ( if the wind was right ) or hours flying cross country. With no engine on board. Now with gliding, like sex, a mediocre day is still better than none. A spectacular day might be a new site, or even world record. I was also a serious Chase Crew guy and have spent days blitzing down back roads in serious nowhere chasing a speck in the sky trying very hard to set a world record, or a personal best. ( the difference is if I had to dust off my FAI Observer membership card, and seal an instrument pkg. )
So, I had a more than casual interest in weather, climate, and climate change.
When, back in the late 1970's I was assured that:
1. we're all going to die. Civilization will fall.
2. The Ice Age is Upon us.
3. That had nothing to do with the natural cycle of climate, which btw, indicates an Ice Age is Soon Upon Us. ( still does.. when? I dunno ) But. This Was due to CO2 cooling off the planet because we have an industrialized society in transition between fossil fuels and the clean energy we needed to develop to replace it.
4. The ONLY THING THAT COULD SAVE US was to tax CO2 emissions. Submit our industrial policy to a group of unelected UN bureaucrats who knew nothing about the subject, and were experts in neo-marxist economics. We had to Live Sustainably. And give up the evils of nationalistic pride and freedom so that the UN folk could redistribute our wealth to the poor nations of the world our greedy capitalism had ripped off and was going to kill.
To be fair, we had a couple of cold years.
Now, some of that is actually good sense. It would be much smarter to run sustainable clean nuclear power, along with a few token windmills and solar panels where they made economic sense. Surely economies of scale would make roof shingle solar affordable and the distribution of small powerplants and computerized distribution would eliminate the blackouts our overtaxed old stuff kept giving us. ( and still does. )
Alas. Nuclear power was an anathema to the Greens, who's purpose was to destroy the Industrialized west. ( still is ) Distributed power cut profits for the big companies and the rich, big companies can afford to and do, contribute to politicians to get good deals. See Solyndra, the A123 battery guys, etc. http://www.a123systems.com/
Then 20 years later, the Same Guys who wanted my money in the '70's were back, telling me:
1. we're all going to die. Civilization will fall.
2. Human induced Global Warming was going to make superstorms and flood the seashores.
3. That had nothing to do with the natural cycle of climate, which btw, indicates an Ice Age is Soon Upon Us. ( still does.. when? I dunno ) But. This Was due to CO2 heating up the planet because we have an industrialized society in transition between fossil fuels and the clean energy we needed to develop to replace it.
4. The ONLY THING THAT COULD SAVE US was to tax CO2 emissions. Interesting. It requires a LARGE heat source, but you can use waste heat from another process. High capital costs.
There are other such ideas, including one that uses giant hollow towers to both desalinate sea water and make electricity. You pump sea water up to the top of a big pipe, spray it into the pipe, the falling water evaporates and fresh water condenses on the walls to be collected for human use. The rush of air created by the falling water runs turbines around the base, so, unlike "windfarm" machines, the hardware with moving parts is low and easy to work on.
It's also supposed to reduce the power of Hurricanes by short circuiting the heat flow, when you put hundreds of these things along the Atlantic coast.
It's a test bed for a Single Stage To Orbit ( SSTO ) ship. They're almost at the same stage as the DC-X was when NASA crashed it because they forgot to plug back in a landing jack hose.
Blake, I'm sure that's a reason we don't have these towers all along the coast.
As a concept it's a great idea, a tower sucking in cool air at the top, a series of wind turbines around the bottom, and a catch basin to collect the fresh water. How close to break even on such a monster I don't know. I assume we don't have them because the economics are crappy.
ok what happens to the dissolved solids ? What your building is a Giant cooling tower. It cools water ok looses 12+ % of the water that passes through it. You get a greater concentration of salt etc.
Ok what goofy sob calculated the pump head , gpm and horsepower required ? Inorder the supply the pumps you will need a Nuclear plant for each tower
IIRC you pump cold sea water to the top, and spray it out inside. The falling water drags the air with it, and evaporates, as the salt falls out in the center. You'd have a brine pool in the middle. The moist air condenses outside the tower after passing through the turbines.
If it doesn't work... Don't Blame me! Popular Mechanics & Popular Science always have huge uber toys that no one builds because they don't work well. How many covers of magazines have you seen with sea skimming Ekranoplans?
Check out the Lun. A flying missile cruiser. Closest we've ever come to Space Battleship Yamato.
The funniest thing to me is they build these things on lakes.... ( and just how do you go anywhere else? ) The Russian companies that build these things asked for an auto-pilot stabilization system so you could fly over land.... high enough to not hit power lines, trees, and hills. They were told that since it was against the rules to fly that low, they had no interest in inventing/investing in such autopilots... Politics! ( the Airplane guys and Ekranoplan guys are in different departments... )
