Dont know if its been posted here, but earlier this season Triumph got involved (slightly) with NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle drag racing

Its odd to me seeing things this way...

Its Jr Pippins bike, ridden by Keith Burley. Junior is a super nice guy and quality racer and sportsman.
Im glad he's involved again in bike drag racing, but its just an odd sponsorship deal

Sorry if another thread is posted about this already, I know its not new news

Makes perfect sense to me. They want to take US market share off H-D with the Thunderbird and Rocket III.

They target several other manufacturer's product as well - and then go play in their sandpit. This is Bubba's.

Shrewd.

I understand wanting another marketing outlet, its just odd seeing one brand name and logo on another brand bike

Yeah. But it's like the guy the other day delivering Mercedes Dealer parts in a Mazda. Merc don't make the right veeeehicle for that job.

Like most casual observers - I assumed it was a Triumph anyway.

We broke a few Triumphs on the drag stip back in NZ. Rocket doesn't have the clutch for burnouts (standard anyway) - and while they launch magnificently, they run out of puff in the final 1/8.

Thank George Bryce and the guys from S&S for those beautiful pieces of equipment. Amazing performance from a pushrod motor.

The Aranas have a better handle on the bike than any one else. The sad part is Vance & Hines (Read Harley) have such an advanced motor, that all they have to do is lean on the tune a bit harder to beat everybody. I have it from one source that they have run 6.50 in testing. But then again I am only an old A/C mechanic.

I wish I had pictures of a Triumph I saw at the ProStar world finals, I think was in 1999. Fellow from the Netherlands came over with it. Hand built 750CC parallel twin, supercharged on nitro. It ran 7.01 at over 185.

At that same race Brian Bennett torched a head on his Kawi funny bike winning the second round of eliminations. A friend who had been eliminated in Pro ET took the head off his stock GPZ 1100 and they put it on Brian's bike. He won the event, and set ET and MPH records at the meet. Stone stock head and cams : ).

Triumph had a factory trailer and ensemble with a Speed Triple and other stuff at the BUB Speed Trials, and their own factory rider, camera crew, etc. Quite a production.

I'm not completely sure how NHRA deals with defunct manufactures but I do know that the there is a limit to how long they will let them run as Buells. The Pro Stock car teams are being encouraged to quite running the Pontiac GXP body and switch to Camaros. This is not just a body change this is an all new frame and chassis. The same thing happened when Oldsmobile disappeared.

We may see the beginning of Triumph in Pro Stock bike racing. The motors are S&S and the rolling chassis is Kosman, all it would take is a few carbon fiber parts that kinda look like a Triumph 675 Daytona and wa la instant race teams. Like about 1/2 the field.

If that happens and Triumph spends any amount of money with the NHRA you will see adjustments being made to balance out the field. The Japanese factories are spending Zero money so they don't count and Buell is gone right now Harley is the only one that counts.

I just don't see it as a Triumph or a Buell.

An NHRA "Buell" is no less a Buell than a "Screamin' Eagle Vance and Hines V-rod" is to a Harley V-rod.

At least the "Buells" us a "Production" Pushrod engine. The V-rod uses one off custom engines. In an interview, Hines said it took many, many hours in the CNC machine to reduce the large hunk of aluminum billet into a set of crankcases.

And I would be willing to bet there is some Suzuki in both of those engines. But then again, I am just an old A/C mechanic.

Go Hector and Hector!!! Go Buell Racing!!
