Yesterday I put my name on a waiting list to get one, in 9mm. I'm going to pocket carry it. I know its a tad big to pocket carry, but I think it'll be just fine for me. Any thoughts on this weapon? A Walther PPS was my second choice, but overall I think the Shield beats out the PPS (from what I've read, and seen on YouTube). Thoughts? |

PERSONALLY i don't like that style safety. nor do i like a SA pocket pistol. Out of the box, the shield has terrible sear reset, just like the rest of the M&P line. apex trigger kit and RAM would be a good addition, but not necessary. i chose a full-frame M&P, and i OC or wear a loose shirt over it, if i must hide it. i have no expierince with the PPS, so i cannot comment. the best thing you can do with whatever you carry is to spend some time getting and keeping proficiency with it at the firing range. ... and don't mess with it while your waiting in line at walmart. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/07/24/texas-man-acc identally-fires-gun-in-walmart/?test=latestnews /{facepalm} |

... have you held or better yet shot one before you buy one? |

I like the fact that it has a safety; I'll probably just leave it off. I've held one, but haven't shot one. I know its got a good trigger... |

Check out the new Springfield armory xd slim compact. Its small like the pps with a single stack mag and also comes in .45 I believe. Has a trigger and grip safety as well as firing pin and loaded chamber indicators. |

http://xdspistol.com/ I have an XDm .40 Bi-tone 3.8" myself, it's what I carry but it's waaaaaay too big for pocket carrying. |

I quickly gave up on pocket carry. I'm just not comfortable holding/shooting something that small. I just borrowed a H&K P7M8 and I like it a LOT. Once I put a few rounds thru it, I will let you know how it does. |

I already have a XDm 3.8 40cal that I carry IWB. So I don't want another Springfield. I have picked up that XDS 45ACP, and it's a bad ass little gun though. The M&P Shield seems to be the winner in the subcompact category. |

Wolf, I don't think the Shield is all that small. Remember it is a single stack 9mm or 40, not no 380. |

size not caliber. I need/like a hand grip that I can wrap my whole hand around. Just looking at pictures of the M&P. It looks to small (in size) for me. ""Beware the man with only one gun; he probably knows how to use it." |

There are companies like Pierce(spelling?) that make grip extensions for the popular sub compacts out there. They replace the magazine floor plate and provide a place to put your pinky without adding too much bulk. I had one on my xd9 sub. That xd slim is an awesome package. |

The Shield also comes with an extended mag, so your pinky will fit. |

I have full size handguns and when I first picked up my buddys Ruger 380 I though noway can you hit anything with this. After shooting it a bunch I'm feeling comfy with it and have made some consistant shots with it. I still going to get something a little larger like the LC9. |

the shield looks like a winner. single stack, 9mm power. similar to my kahr cw-9. great for carry. and my m&p40 is an excellent piece i'd hold it up to glock any day |

Old school guy here so I regularly carry a compact Glock 30 (.45ACP) in a strong side holster and even for this guy of rather small stature it hides nicely under just a loose shirt. For pocket carry in a "T" shirt I carry an old completely reliable AMT backup, again in .45ACP. It has a pretty heavy trigger pull but goes bang each and every time. Double action only so just pull, shoot and put away the same as the Glock. That makes both really simple, reliable and safe. |

Wolfridgerider, please do comment on the H&K, that model is rather rare, and I've always liked the idea behind the squeeze cocker safety. |

I've put 3,000 rounds through my XD9 subcompact. Never a malfunction! Once or twice the slide failed to lock back, but I have attributed this to my thumb placement. |

Just put about 30 rounds down range with the H&K. Very easy to shoot. Super light trigger pull. VERY EASY TO KEEP ON TARGET! The mag holds 8, so I put one in the pipe and squeezed of 9 quickly. From about 15 yards, all 9 hit within a 10" diameter circle.... I was happy I need to pick up a couple of magazines for it. Felt like I spent way to much time reloading. |

There is this great guy that does tons of reviews on youtube, hickok45. He has done quite a few reviews/comparisons and he does have an affinity for smaller/carry pistols. In case you haven't seen his video yet (he actually has several regarding the MP): http://youtu.be/A7pmjCWSgJU Along the lines of what Nillaice mentioned, make sure you shoot at least a couple hundred rounds before you buy. Then if you still like it and it's reliable then go for it. |

shoot 100 rds with the M&P and you'll likely be a fan (yea, not all of you). It is the most ergonomically correct, easy to shoot, handgun I've ever put in my very large paw. Perfect fit in fact. I prefer the .40. |

Ruger SP101 17 oz. Revolver in. 357 with a spurless hammer. Very pocket friendly. Dead men tell no tales, but brass laying all over the ground speaks volumes. I choose not to leave any. |

The new Shield is not only popular, but a good shooter for 450.00. The reset is very nice. Shot both the 9 and the 40 at a Gander Mtn firearms training event. I've also shot the XDs the 938 and 224 (hated the 224). If I had my choice for CCW, the XDs hands down followed by the Shield 9. |

Boney95, I don't have one but I think you made a great choice. Like you already know, a little big for pocket carry but to each his own. Hickok45 likes it and he's usually straight up. I just bought a little pistol, Springfield EMP 9mm. Shot it only once so far, but put 300 rounds through it without a hitch. Really accurate and fun to shoot. It's about the same size as the shield. 3" barrel 6.5" from muzzle to the end of the beavertail and 5" from the top of the rear sight to the bottom of the grip. Here's a pick of mine, cause I like takin em IMG_1723 by bosh, on Flickr (Message edited by bosh on July 31, 2012) |

That is a beauty! Big fan of 1911s Solid, comfy, great weight, balance... And the trigger group design is exceptional! Hope to build up a linkless 10mm some day... |

I love the EMP. Not really sure why they don't call the .45 cal the EMP, but love them a lot. One cool part of owning it is the easy take-down. No barrel bushings to deal with. |
