Hey folks- of all things I'd expect to see at MC daily, here this one pops up:

http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2012/04/cool-buell- mods-fall-victim-to-corporate-caprice/

Very cool story! In fact, I had the honor of selling this particular bike to Rex- he had some cool plans to execute, as evidenced in the piece and in the pics.

He's a cool old dude, I've always enjoyed his products (still use his winter gloves to this day)... FWIW, I've only seen this bike once when it was on display at Smoky Mountain- my buds there said that with that pipe, it sounded wicked!

Fun stuff!

quote:

This attractive unit posed considerable tuning challenges, however, but after modifying the intake and fuel injection mapping, the pair ultimately coaxed an additional 4 hp from the already efficient stocker, along with a beefier torque curve.

I hate to say it, but they did something wrong if that's all they got out of it. A sidewinder style pipe like that should have made an EASY 20+ hp over stock, ie; it should have been making 145+ at the wheel.

I thought they made 145 at the wheel with a quiet stock muffler?

146 hp was at the crank. The average (at least what I've seen) is only 122-125 hp at the wheel. Mine (an RT-3) made 143.1 hp at EBR with their bike, dynojet corrected and that's at the wheel. It would be a fairly rare bike that would make 145 with the stock pipe. The planets would truly need to be in alignment and the cams degreed in to make it.

Personally, I'd suspect a very generous dyno more than anything if you see those numbers out of an otherwise stock 1125.

Cool to see. Rex was involved very early on with the original Buell Motor Company. He helped Erik get that first RR1000 off the ground and when launched his own luggage and apparel company he did some very nice fabric jackets with armor and BMC logos. I still haev mine but it is looking seriously beat up these days. Can get it one actually as it has really shrunk.

The Vetter prototype is not owned by Rex. Its owned by an old friend.... John Mckosh. The bike resides in his living room. I actually have the specs to that bike and everything they used on that prototype hand written from John.

Yeah, I know John has got it. It looks great. I don't know all the details of it's movements but he is taking good care of it.

That exhaust looks like the V&H Competition for a VRod. It will be loud as hell.
