Motorcycles have long been a much cheaper R&D platform than cars for engine development.

great example Blake of a car company in motorcycle racing.

But look at many sponsorships out there
NASCAR - how many of the sponsors are actually in the car industry? Mountain Dew? M&Ms?

NHRA dragracing - young life? national guard? hell i've even seen Honda sponsorships (small, but still) on a top fuel dragster.

Look at all the DC shoe sponsors out there, or energy drinks etc

Its all about getting your name/logo out there.
Hell, I've got a concrete company as a sponsor for my racing.

Looking forward to seeing who it is that stepped up to support this team.
And REALLY looking forward to Daytona!

with the racing season getting closer every day don't you think there would be an announcement any day now? The sponsor needs to get their name out there for publicity and advertising.

I said "Not sure why Ford would sponsor a sport they're not involved in building vehicles for."

Energy drink and shoe companies don't build vehicles, so it makes sense for them to advertise on race cars. I would think Ford would only be interested in sponsoring race teams that were racing Fords, as it promotes their brand vs. some other vehicle manufacturer. Granted, Ford doesn't make motorcycles.

Companies, it seems do not always direct their advertising toward a particular interest, cars, bikes, drinking, racing, etc. but rather a target audience and we know almost all sports have people watching them that, eat, drink and buy oil, shoes, insurance and yes, even snack foods and power drinks. Any of them, no matter how ridiculous the ads seem just want their logo seen so people watching relate and will remember it when they go into a store or search the net to but something.

Then it would seem, in racing, they (the sponsors) want the most viewing they can get and that would then mean "up front" with the camera on them most of the time.

It appears that at least some companies feel that EBR will be doing just that, running up front and be a viable advertisement worthy of backing with sponsor money. I'm really enjoying that possibility and hoping strongly for Erik and the Elves to have an absolutely great year and that eventually both Geoff's and Danny's bikes are filled with sponsor logos. I'll be in the stands watching firsthand and in the pits visiting with them on the sidelines. See you at the races. Bob

Just like the Ford/HD "editions". Ford has been known to sponsor HD racing, and use HD's name to make "HD edition" trucks.

Having Ford as a sponsor would be great. Just doesn't seem to be a good fit. But hey, I'm no marketing genius.

Imagine EBR pulling in to the paddock with their race trailer behind a shiny new F750 compliments of their new sponsor. : )

i think it would be cool. i wouldn't see why not ford has their hands in almost everything racing, especially newer series aiming for the younger crowd it seems.

I'm not a fan of Ford, but if we are dreaming here... i think Victorias Secret would be an excellent choice for a sponsor! I can just picture it...

Racing sponsorship is a funny thing. Big time racing has complex formulas to determine "views" to bring in sponsorship. There are also business to business arrangements, think Penske/Shell, or EBR/amsoil. Often it is a "You scratch my back" situation. Younger racers often must bring in their own sponsor, think family deals. That said it often makes no sense to me. I don't buy M&Ms because of Kyle Busch, or Amsoil because of Geoff May. I crewed a car team sponsored by a trash hauler, but I don't think they anyone changed pickups based on performance at the track. I'm excited to see EBR on the track with two bikes. Is Crotchrocket TV or the east coaster from NJ race going to run AMA this year?

I do. I was using it in my bike and because they sponsor E.B.R.
I now use it in all my cars

With Ford there can be a direct correlation with motorcycles, an awful lot of bikes ride around in the back of those F-150's.

Harleys maybe, but my Uly has never hitched a ride on anything, much less a Ford.

Ford has been involved with motorcycles before. Remember the Harley Davidson edition trucks?

The only people who haul their bikes around more than HD riders are racers.

Maybe Paris Hilton will want to support another motorcycle race team. I sure could support that! Could you imagine all the attention it would bring when she would be at a race ?
