EBR will get my money too, for those reasons and others.

crusty +1 - best comment on the thread and it would weight my decision if I were in the market.

Then again maybe I'm just a "boutique" kinda guy?

No doubt it's a beautiful bike; I think it's pretty similar to an 1190 in performance. Of course, what is it they say?

While the Ducati is surely a very nice bike, the moto-gp bike it is derived from did not do very well with Rossi on it.

Power-wise it will put down about 165 to 170. Maybe

Similar in performance??? How can you say that??? You have zero idea. Remember the bike has ABS....traction control.... electronics that aid in going faster for many riders. Nothing against the EBR. I think its sexy. Thing is Ducati has a lil bit more money to play with. I do however Erik and company will achieve there goals and maybe one day have these options on a bike as well.

Think I remember EBR stating that traction control is a bandaid for a poorly designed chassis.

I wouldn't own either bike unless given to me. I am hoping the new less expensive EBR bikes include a sport tourer like Crusty. I am sure it will as the Uly was the best seller at Buell.

Electronic doo-dads that don't matter to me. Sure, some riders wil like them and run better with them. But some will ride better without them too. I don't think those features alone will sway potential buyers of either machine.

The Term your looking for is economy of scale. The same guys that build Monsters build this one costs reduce as volume increases. EBR has to cover the cost of vendor R&D Tooling and all the start up costs are in the first bikes

I understand why so many of you would pick the ebr, koolaid and all, this is a buell board. But if it comes down to my money, something 10k+ less, with all the electronic doo dads, and a dealer network that i actually know about would sway me to the italian side.

This one doesnt have some wonky looking muffler hanging off the side either.

Wow. Tough crowd.

Price differences, weight difference, technological differences are all statistics to TALK about. I'll stick with the one branded in the U.S. of A. ...But both the Duc and EBR are gorgeous bikes.

I do wonder why the EBR has such an enormous exhaust system as compared to the KTM and the Duc

If a person can afford $28K for an 1199 Corse, most likely they. An afford $40K. An I right or am I right? Sure the 1199 may be exclusive, say, 3,000 built or so probably, but why not spend the extra coin to support an AMERICAN company, buying an ULTRA exclusive 1190RS (1 of 100!!!), a bike that is LIGHTER and FASTER. That's my position on this bike. Granted, it's an amazing machine, but since it's posted on a BUELL board and compared to a BUELL machine, I think the BUELL would be a better buy for the (not my cuz I have none) money.

how the hell does anyone here know which bike is faster. How many of you test rode them. The electronics on the Duc won't do many here any good as most of you (including me) aren't fast enough to take advantage of them. Seems to me that traction control is expensive and may be MORE of the reason it was left off the already high $40000 1190RS.
I wish EBR nothing but the best, but unless he get's some major $$ backing, coming out with new models and bring down the prices MIGHT be pretty difficult. If I had the choice, I'd take the Ducati.

I spouted out more than I should've; I have no idea which is faster. But it's a pretty good amount lighter and has MUCH less rotating unsprung mass, probably less unsprung mass in general. Like I said though, I've never met someone that could afford a $25-$28K Bike that couldn't afford a $40-43K bike.

BTW, anyone know who made the XB wheels? *hint- the same people that made the 1198 wheels ; ). All of the Ducati wheels before the 1198 were made by Brembo/Marchesini.

I believe Enkei made the XB wheels via a Chinese affiliate.

I could be wrong though.

I prefer the EBR also for the Incredible Customer Service that I've seen over and over from Buell. I've seen and personally experienced the best Customer Service in the entire Motorcycle Industry.

I'm glad you did, but in my 5 years of Buell ownership I experienced nothing but absolute disdain from the dealerships that "supported" the product line. I know there were some good dealers out there, but I never found one.

I've owned both Ducati and Buell at the same time.

2003 749S ($16,500) and 2004 XB12R ($12,500).

If there was any such thing as worse customer service, it was at the Ducati dealerships.

Honestly, both left a very sour taste in my mouth, but at the end of ownership on each bike, the Buell had ~50,000 miles while the Duc had ~3000 miles.

Comfort, usable low-end power, and overall fun times were to be had on the Buell.

If I were to choose which experience I would repeat, Buell is the answer without a second thought.

In no way, shape, or form do I attribute the lousy dealer support to Erik Buell. I know he wouldn't have it that way, anybody who has dedicated his life to creating the great American Sport Bike would put the customer first, every time.

I'd love to meet him at some point, as many of you have... I'd really love to be able to buy one of his bikes some day.

Next bike purchase is going to be a Kawasaki Voyager... we'll see what happens two years down the road.

If the bike is worth a shit I'll see it on the grid at Daytona. If it's not there ....... It's all talk.

How cool would it be to see Ducati racing in the AMA and finish in the top 10 in all the races in their first year?

Only one manufacturer has done it. It'd sure make a statement about v-twins.

This banter is in the wrong forum. This banter belongs in a non biased/neutral forum. From there you would get more accurate arguments.
