Glass as the answer

I like it but its wrong,

mail your stuff home ( ups )

I expect laptops will be banned at some point, I will then be forced to drive

search every one, no exceptions ..

I would be willing to bet that the next plane that an attempted hijacking happens on (US Domestic ) the passengers will subdue the perp, come to think of it its been done,

Al-kay-da gives your family 5k for your kidney and martyrdumb by replacing it with some type of device, 25 days later, you get on a plane, plane says bye bye and the kidney gets sold on the black market for xxxx dollars. How is TSA gonna stop that?

It's off topic, but I would like to respond to Blake's statement that he hates all public employee unions.

I have been a public employee for 30 years, and for 20 years a SEIU member. In the city where I work, some plants were unionized, mine was not. Year after year, we were at the mercy of the City for salary and job security. Literally, the City would not give us any raises or COLA, since "we had to give the unionized employees a raise, and we have no more money for you". You worked at the whim of the Superintendent, and I saw people fired for "not being team players", for "excessive restroom use", and similar reasons. We had no representation, and no ability to fight any rules made up by management. Once, we were not permitted to leave the plant on our own unpaid lunch time, because "it wastes gasoline and that isn't good for the nation".
We joined the union for the last 20 years of my employment, and we did have representation to give us a voice when we needed it. No one in our union is getting rich, in fact we have given up paid health care, pensions were eliminated in 2000, and there hasn't been a raise in pay for 5 years. We are not allowed to strike, by law, but we at least have a voice.

I don't hate all Harley owners, or all Muslims, or all anything. Some unions take advantage of the public, some do not.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin

I'd rather die a free man than be reduced to a prisoner in my own country. There are 2 times when I will fly;

1. To leave the Country.
2. If I have to be somewhere on quick notice, due to unforeseen circumstances and I simply do not have the time to drive.

Every other trip is planned to include drive time.

The SEIU yeah right I kept getting spam mailed over BHO and how I should campaign for the weasel. Thier point was were the SEIU and we will be the big union in charge because were so large and we have BHOs ear. Took a few emails for them to get I dont think the Janitors Union should be consulted on foriegn policy.
Or be in charge of anything other than cleaning up. They proved to be even a lower form of life than I suspected!
The IBEW is living down to thier potential if they continue down the path they are on Unions will be outlawed as criminal organizations. Change Union to Mob in the Verizon strike that is the only difference in the operation of an Extortion Protection Racket

Would TSA need a warrant to search body cavities? Or is that covered under implied consent?

It's about job creation. Random cavity searches give way to the burgeoning profession of TSA Colonoscopist.

Special attention given to those 50 and older.

"Hey fella! just check the prostate while you're at it."

No we'll end up with dual flights, you'll arrive at the airport & put your luggage & ALL personal possessions including your clothes into a numbered & sealed container.

You'll board the passenger plane in a single use tyvec boiler-suit with barcodes printed front, back, & all limbs, which also serves as your ticket.

The luggage containers follow on a freight plane.

This may sound ridiculous, but think about it, you can get twice as many passengers on a plane as you don't need hold space & the freight plane being no frills is cheaper to produce & would probably carry the baggage of at least 2 passenger flights.
So there you are Security, Economy, & Green.

Of course it's no defence against a couple of guys with Stingers sitting under a hedge near the end of the runway.

I fly as little as possible, but last year I flew cross-country a total of 7 times, this year only once.

In each case, I have boarded the plane with a 3.5 inch Spyderco locking blade. Sometimes in my laptop case, other times in my pants pocket. I even got the body scan once, and they told me to hold the knife and my keys up over my head.

"Thank you sir, move along."

and a kilo of sea salt in a ziplock in newark. guess what that looks like in a scanner? that was funny...

The TSA wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the total lack of common sense and adherence to political correctness.

I refuse to fly, the TSA is just another excuse for me to ride my motorcycle.

i flew just the other day, i even brought a toy gun on the plane with me, i just told them as i was coming up to the scanner....."i have a toy gun in my bag" they lady told me to take it out....i did she scanned it separately and then let me put it back in my bag. the key thing is just be up front, as as it is a snow globe is full of liquid, it doesn't take much to make a bomb, hence the ban on things like snow globes.

An Irishman turned up at JFK one day with a pig under his arm,
The TSA said you can't board with that,
so the pig replied,
"OK but deal with him humanely will you."

sorry, but i fail to see the issue here. this is like people in line grumbling about having to take off their shoes.

what...are they surprised??

it is what it is. deal, or drive. i don't fly any more than i have to...but with elderly parents in florida, sometimes one has to do 900 miles in a couple hours. i wear sweats, and sandals. i check everything other than my blackberry and headphones. i leave my .38 at home. i don't take liquids to the gate with me. and usually...i sleep the whole time i'm in the air.

and i carry x-rays on my blackberry for the 2# of titanium in my legs and hip, that puts me in "the box" for a body scan every single flight. (another reason for the sweats and sandals - quick reveal of the scars and grafts, "see?"). because of the titanium, i'm pretty in-tune with gate annoyances and i'm fully aware that i *am* the gate annoyance for most folks in line behind me. s*it happens, sorry, but i prepare for it not only for myself but for all the "what, i have to take off my shoes?" folks behind me.

for a better shot at a safe arrival? sure, i'll give up 90 seconds at the gate.

everybody knows the rules. stop acting like a third grader and trying to "skate the system", and just go along with it. personal freedom? get a pilots license and buy your own plane. but don't cause trouble on MY flight, dammit. none of this stuff is unreasonable, its all common sense...so just follow the rules for a couple hours' flight time. how hard is that? it's not like they're asking you to make lifestyle changes...it's a couple hours. max. be a sheep in the air, and once you land you can be as rebellious and bad-ass as you want.

Ratbuell, part of the issue you're missing is what the TSA is doing as opposed to what they're not doing. There are much more effective, and less physically intrusive, ways of screening passengers. I don't choose to fly because of the methods (and methodology) currently in use by the TSA- if they were using other methods that are proven to work (but not politically correct), I'd probably be flying.
