So I'm back from Vegas Two flights and 2 body scans later. So this is my fault but irritating none the less. I carefully packed my stuff made sure my toiletries were bagged right and what not so imagine my surprise when i was plucked from line as a grumpy man says there is something suspicious in my luggage. My crime bringing back a Small Fancy snow globe for my daughter. Woohoo for my stupidity. So I am home now with no gift for my kid. Grand |

I've had to throw stuff away also. I always go through my stuff one last time the day prior to flying and package/ship anything that won't make it. I'm sure the folks who take the trash out from the security checkpoints will enjoy your gift along with everyone else who is forced to throw things away. |

Just drove from Houston to Key West and back. Couldn't stomach dealing with the airlines and all my dive gear. |

We flew to Seattle last Nov. Brought juice boxes for our children. Had to throw them away as the "straw" could be used as a weapon, according to TSA. Meantime, another family, middle eastern, took their children's juice boxes aboard WITH STRAWS! I'm with you Hootowl. |

That makes perfect sense. According to homeland security training videos, it's white folk in hooded sweatshirts who are the terrorists. Why wouldn't they confiscate your straws? |

I always wear my "DEATH TO AMERICA" t-shirt and walk through unmolested. TSA wouldn't want to be accused of profiling. |

..no,those straws could be used to shoot spit balls at attendants and incite an inflight incident, disruption and /or death...blad,blah,blah....whereas the MiddleEastern folks have no clue to as what a"spit ball" is ....so they're out of the loop....and a "free get out of jail" card......see how simple that was.....TSA"where all the unemployed proctologists get jobs"....... |

This is part of the job creation keeping our conomy going. If we need more just hire more tsa workers to protect our streets. At least patriot act has been dismantled right? |

I've had an unopened and sealed 3.5 oz (rule is 3.4 oz max don't ya know) container of shaving gel confiscated. I travel quite a bit and the last trip was more of the same. Got scanned and luggage open checked on the outbound and then scanned with luggage open checked and wiped on the inbound. I began commercial flying in earnest during the early eighties and have been at it pretty heavy ever since. I can remember showing up at the airport and simply walking straight to the gate and boarding my flight. Back then it was nothing to spend some time in the "cockpit" with the crew. All you had to do was ask. I remember when metal detectors went on line. I remember flying right after 9/11 and how quiet everything was not only through security but in the airports and on the planes themselves. Most of my flying is international and of course the security on the return trip to the US after 9/11 went from pretty tame to very stringent (whew, Incheon and Tel Aviv were treats). Over the years much of the security overseas in my opinion has become less intrusive while the US has become a bit more time consuming and petty. Years ago I felt the security offered was helpful and made for a safer flight. Now I see it as just another time consuming and costly hassle. Funny, now that I can begin to travel less by airline, my wife wants to begin to take more international trips. Any volunteers? |

I do. I used to really worry about getting pelted in the back of the head with a spitball on cross country flights. Thank you TSA! |

The reason those towers came down and the pentagon was hit is simple. Those aboard did not challenge those hostage takers, eventual pilots. Had that occurred, there would have been some wounded and possibly some dead, but not all in the plane and certainly not the WTC and Pentagon getting hit with airplanes. Another plane could be flown into another building. TSA will never prevent that scenario as long as you have fanatics who can get a pilot's license. |

TSA is preventing the last attack, not the next one. That's what bureaucracies do. Groping five year old kids is not going to prevent a terrorist attack. Taking the f-ing straws out of a juice box is not going to stop an attack. I can kill you with my bare hands (assuming you hold still long enough) so we should cut off people's hands before letting them fly? There's a sharia law joke in there somewhere. |

Damnit I just want my snowglobe back. Best part is the guys like you could ship it home instead but.... It's Sunday and the post office is closed. Seriously the guy in our party that lost his DL the night before got through security quicker. |

Seasons in times past the hijacks landed safely, I suspect that had the passengers known that it was a one way trip then it would have turned out different I bet it wont end that way again |

I flew a couple of weeks ago, it seems like they hire the most incompetent people. I was pulled aside, told to "step behind the yellow line" and had my hands swabbed. I was going to mention about lotion and bodily fluids when they swabbed my hands but i decided that i did infact want to make my flight. Then im watching them point at the screen and muttering something as my bag goes through. They then inform me that they need to rescan the bag. Everything was in order, there wernt any bombs in it, although they might have thought the electric toothbrush was, who knows. More muttering and finally they let me go. Then to top it off, my ticket wont scan when im ready to board the airplane. Its the print from home kind, so the lady takes it and tells me to just go ahead, which gave me the warm fuzzies. So anyone can just print a ticket, go to this small airport and get on a plane. |

TSA is union. Unions educate their members to help them understand how to remain vital to the industry they serve. The more security checks and searches they do, the more good union members (Democrat voters) they can justify supporting. I hate public employee unions. |

Just want to point this out. Those who flew the planes into the towers didn't go on the plane as a passenger. They worked at the airport. Hmmm... |

I remember reading a few months ago that snowglobes had been added to the "no-no" list....yep...seriously, it's on there. I couldn't bring a fly rod reel on a flight recently (don't remember seeing those on any list). When I protested, the TSA genius said I could choke someone with the line. I responded: "I could do it with shoelaces too, but those are OK?". I asked for a supervisor (checked bag had already gone through, so I was hoping to avoid losing a $200 reel) - he took a look and said "what is this?" after I explained what it was, he said" you can't take this on board". Luckily I was able to find a kind person in the gift shop who gave me a box and some stamps so I could mail it to myself... |

Cataract2, >>> Those who flew the planes into the towers didn't go on the plane as a passenger. They worked at the airport. False. All nineteen of the 9/11 highjackers were boarded as typical passengers. We have the video of them going through routine boarding and security checks. I don't even think that they worked at any airport. |

What is so hard to understand about 2 ounces of fluid MUST BE CHECKED. Read the book "A Thousand Years for Revenge" in which just ONE case describes the explosives used that almost brought down a JAL 747 when they combined the chemicals, set them off with the capacitor used in a disposable camera and a set of wires wound around a wristwatch. Trust me, you can get MORE than enough binary chemicals into a pair of snowglobes to bring down any airliner built. What would you suggest as an alternative? I hate the invasion of privacy as much as the next man - but you GOTTA CHECK your bags if you are carrying things that are KNOWN to be prohibited. Ultimately we can only do so much, we must be willing to "lose a few" if we're going to insist on keeping all our liberties. |

I can't tell you how many things I've given up at the gate just because I wasn't paying attention!!! :-) It's a tough call on security vs personal freedoms. Personally I'm willing to see a few thousand American people killed so that I don't have to give up my freedoms (as has already happened in both cases). As long as I don't know any of those people who actually die. |
