No wonder the economy has tanked! I see why Detroit is a ghost town. Ya'll need to buy a new car now and then to support the economy of a country who's economy was based on transportation. Ya cheap bastds!

I usually have four or five cars and or trucks in some state of rebuild and until the current state of the economy left my pockets opposing a payment program, I usually had a new one around to look good when I visited customers, and to deduct it of course.

When you own a vehicle repair business, and you deal with large corporate wholesale customers, you find that they like it when you show up to take them to lunch in a new vehicle. They seem to like the show of financial strength that a $40,000+ vehicle brings, verses showing up in a primered fifteen year old pick up. It is not a matter of how smart you are, they like it if you look good.

Never had a vehicle with under 100,000 miles untill I turned 40 and my kids moved out.

I bought an Explorer Sport Trac brand new in 07 and it only has 37000 miles on it.
The payments really suck but it will be paid off in a year or so and I'm going to have a huge party so celebrate.

Bought my 96 honda civic 4 years ago for $300 with 95,000 miles on it. It now has 198,000 on it, has been stolen from my old apt. two times and has been beat by me very hard. Just put new tires on it and have no reason to get rid of it. My commute is 80 miles round trip to work and that lil guy still cranks out 40+ MPG.

"Ya'll need to buy a new car now and then to support the economy"

I have no idea where are the new cars are going. I have bought one brand spankin' new car in my lifetime. None of my family buys new and they wear 'em out just like me. Most of my friends (and Badweb friends too it sounds like) keep them for years also. Then pray tell where are all the new cars going? I live within a 45 minute drive of the Ky. Toyota plant (where both my Avalon and Sienna were made) and they leave out of there by the truck and train loads every day. I think one rolls off the line something every 57 seconds or so they tell me. Where are they going? That's just one plant for one brand. Think of all the brands and all the plants across the U.S. Where do they all go?

i have run plenty into the ground and still sold them off to someone. but only had to haul one to the junk yard, 84 mustang t-boned a deer climbing on the 140 mark. the poor thing still drove itself home but puked all its guts out on the way, and had to wedge the one working headlight so it would shine towards the road and jump on the hood and kick the fenders though!. even drove itself on the trailer to make its last trip.

one buick century i bought for $600 drove for 7 years was totaled 4 times(hit a tree on the ice, forklift crushed the side at work, hit a kid on a bicycle on the highway, and was hit by a plow) 200some thousand miles and sold for $500 with plastic ductaped on it for passenger windows.

i trade around vehicles alot. always looking for a good deal and willing to jump on it if its good enough, then sit on it until i get what im asking(some vehicles ive bought back and resold again multiple times over the years.)

earlier this year i sold my 94 plymouth acclaim(freebe!) after 6 years of driving it. sold my 94 f250 3/4ton 460 after a few years and sold my 04 tahoe of 3 years (bought when everyone was dumping them because gas was $4+ a gallon)

turned around and bought an 08 chevy 2500hd duramax ext cab 4x4 with 56,000 miles on it cash(at 14,000 less then my friend paid for a damn near matching truck 2 weeks later!)

currently have the
08 duramax, 58,000
91 caprice, 134,000
96 grand marquis(2nd owners from a family friend), 189,000 and would take it anywhere.
87 vw golf 5 speed, 133,000
03 xb9r, 24,000
03 xb9r, 12,000
02 blast, 1960 for sale...
04 blast, 911 for sale...
08 1125r, 13,000
09 1125cr, 3000
xbblast no idea
85 honda z50r,(my very first motorcycle) no idea on mileage, but ridden everyday all day during the summers when i was a kid and a hell of alot since then by me and my kids, so ALOT. i know it has to have more miles on its all original drivetrain then any bike i own.
little pocket rocket, id guess a couple hundred
1965 bultaco metralla, 3100
1996 S1, 7000

the only 2 vehicles ive ever bought brand new are the 1125r and the 1125cr.

seems like im missing something...?!

I'm with you Slaughter man. It's too much trouble getting to know another vehicle. The four wheel variety just don't mean much other than utility to me.

Sure was nice to get the F250 after 23 years driving the little Nissan.

Now Dad drives the little Nissan. It refuses to die.

Not convinced Danica Patrick likes boys. : D

I worked to clean out my garage and move stuff around so that my wife could get her green beast into the garage. Lasted about two days. She refuses to park in the garage because she keeps hitting the edges. : |

Now she parks in the driveway and her side of the garage is empty.

I don't think I've ever sold off a vehicle. I gave a few away but usually they get sold "by the pound" and leave wherever they gave up the ghost on a hook.

Slaughter - nice wheels, and I'm sure it's a little more comfy and quieter inside than the 'Yota. I would love something like that, yet at the same hate all the new stuff in it that could go wrong with age. Eg ABS, aircon, power steering, electric seats, interior lights, any lights actually ; ) Yeah, I'd really hate a car like that!

Asbjorn - You got the 500! Woohoo! So who's got the biggest grin in your house? : D

I've owned cars that have more than 200k on them, and bikes with more than 100k on them, but I don't think I've ever put more 50,000 on one of them myself. Basically I used to get bored, and when something was getting close to needing a major rebuild (or I convinced myself it was!) I would justify selling it and getting something different. Owning something for less than 12 months wasn't unknown for me.

The vehicles I have now are keepers. The X1 is now the longest I've owned a bike at 7 years, the Valiant the longest I've owned car at almost 6 years. We're about to embark on a major restoration of the F-100 too.
My plan is to do my best to not drive any of them into the ground. Instead it will be more like continuous rolling restoration and "improvement" ; )

The thing about buying a used truck from Enterprise is you get a 7 day test drive where you can exchange it or get a full refund... THEN you get a engine/drive line warranty for 12 months.

No haggle pricing at price below KBB

Enterprise only sells 5% of their fleet themselves so they are "cherry picked" - the other 95% they sell to brokers.

I'm pretty confident that for a used vehicle, this will hold me for a while.

Doing the math on this, based on performance on the other vehicles, I'll be well over 70 years of age when I'm done with this one.

Now gotta get that toy hauler.

Contact your local Enterprise!

I worked at a shop and we contracted with the local Enterprise sale lot (Brookpark, OH, by IX Center/Hopkins Airport)for their maintenance. Those cars are meticulously maintained...

Anyway, I have a 2000 Honda Accord with 250k on it now, but she has developed a wrist pin noise... We are planning on retirement and I'm currently looking for a good deal on a CUCV K5 Blazer or 1-ton Truck (preferably due to rear lockers and heavier driveline).

Enterprise Car Sales (link)

Just search around. It will default to your local area - but if you click on the tab "Transfer Matches" it will give you the location outside of your area and the cost to have it delivered.

I despise the newer stuff. I don't need or want to step on the brake to put it in gear..I want to GO,not stop! I don't need or want a light or buzzer to tell me I don't have my seat belt on. I don't need or want a buzzer that tells me I left the key in the ignition. I want a real key,not a $300.00(to replace) fob! I'm fully capable of locking the door when "I" want it locked.
