Been waiting for this one to come up.

So now it's a race between Blago and Fast and Furious. Which one will catch Obama first?

Interesting. If true, I see lots of felonies in that story. Do these guys get a pass on commission of a felony because the brass told them to do it?

The Justice Department is obstructing the congressional investigation of a U.S. law enforcement operation intended to crack down on major weapons traffickers on the Southwest border, according to the embattled leader of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Imagine this with a 12 ga shotgun, and you'll get the picture.

The first news reports I heard, before anything was mentioned about "Fast and Furious" was about American guns in the hands of Mexican drug runners from the evil American gun dealers. I was thinking how bad that sounded and who messed up. Another good reason for more gun control.
And then the gun dealers started getting the word out...........

Dealers got thrown under the bus by the biggest firearms cartel in the world, the United States Government.

It's not surprising to me. All the more reason to not own any (registered) firearms.

currency is on track to be derailed by 2016, look for new freedom bucks or hope notes.

and CERT is already doing 'block mapping' to find out who has 'supplies and guns' under their 'know your neighbor' program.
frankly it is NONE of their F'n business.

dont forget another rebell rousing round of domestic gun buy back programs - bring in your gun and we will extend your EBT benefits, or give you Iphone apps credits; do it for the kids

I got $100 in a gun buyback program in Federal Way WA. I turned in my broken 22 rifle, and bought a new rifle of the same make and model and had a few bucks to spare. What a deal.

There were people in line with me who had a gun that I can only assume had been in a house fire. They still got $100 for it.

Their idiocy made the papers the next day. Only a very small percentage of the guns collected were in working condition, and (I don't know this for sure, but I'll bet it's true) not one criminal turned in the tools of their trade that day.

I've always wondered what would happen if I showed up at a gun buy back and offered a few bucks more to buy the guns. I don't think I would buy the broken ones though.

"a packed 747 cargo plane packed with cocaine"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just cant see that one happening. the infrastructure needed to just unload it would be to much to cover up. that plane cant land at any airport and dump tons of coke. takes some specialized equipment to unload a 747 and not every airport has that stuff.

It does sound a bit far-fetched as far as the 747 goes but drugs appear to get through our shipping ports just fine and those are controlled geographic areas.

ports yes, you can hide anything in a big conex.
At an airport tho you are extremly exposed to all prying eyes and the people working there keep tabs on pretty much everything. Anything out of the norm sticks out like a sore thumb.

They had no problem running it in by the ton via airplane to AR when Clinton was Governor. That's in the public record. CIA stands for Cocaine Importation Agency. Opium production is at a record level now that we are "freeing Afghanistan" and that's good for the World Bank.

I'm aware of a DC-10 that was used, one way. Haven't heard of a 747, but I don't really keep that close a track as back when I worked on defense contracts.

Yep, the profit margin is big enough that you can fill a Jumbo jet with coke, land it on some dead airport, and clean it out.
Several 737's have been used that way.

You just fly in the load and leave the plane. It's not like you bought it retail.

It's actually easy to land on a strip you can't take off from. I've seen it done.

Cargo in a 747 cargo plane is packed in enclosed shipping containers that fit the curvature of the aircraft. The guys unloading the containers have no idea what is inside them, and the loadmaster only knows what's on the manifest. They could easily stash coke in those containers and a simple 'let this pass' order from the CIA would ensure those containers never got inspected.

Now, I'm not saying this happened, but it IS plausible.

those "igloos" are big and dont normally leave the airport, not something you can pack around, and 747's are large enough to not need them. i have not seen any cargo 747 use them (except UPS). not saying they cant be used but its not the norm.
and how many jumbo jets have you seen abandoned around the country?, storage facilities in AZ dont count. They stick out and allot of people would be asking questions. the aviation community is larger and nosier than even the Buell community.
Im not arguing that its not possible, im trying to fuss out the logistics of it.
All you have to say is "Air America".....

Even if the coke was in cardboard boxes, if the CIA tells customs to leave it alone and gives them one of those national security gag orders, the coke is going to sail right through.

Again, not saying it happened, just that it isn't an absurd notion.

I doubt they would pack it with big letters that say COCAINE on the outside for all to see. Crate it up and you just have shipping crates being unloaded. Nothing all that unusual.

I would think that a 747 coming into a US airport as a private cargo plane would have great potential for getting attention from the authorities though. Losing that big of a shipment just seems like too much risk for even the biggest drug cartels.

I have been down in Baja right near a closed airport. I was warned that if you see any airplanes land there, just stay away. I did see a nice sized twin engined turbo prop land there. I didn't go to see what they were loading though.

They did seem to run lots of coke through Mena airport in AR for a long time.

Well, it's safe to assume the plane landed somewhere in the USA, but that's not what the article says. It only mentions the 747 flew into American airspace.

You move men, munitions, equipment and material long enough, effieciently enough and at times in a 'dark' venue - something always clicks that you could be making money off of it and viola drug running now gets federal.
been happening since the OSS days with the Berlin Blockade, Air America, and the corporate fronts and shills that the shadow agencies have been setting up since the 80s.

'Im getting too old for this shiate' ring a bell ; )

Lots of uncontrolled airports. Many places in the boonies that people don't go, and some of them have airstrips.

That's where the 737's end up, landed, stripped and left. No witnesses, no security.

Pilots often "drag" down such strips ( low pass to check conditions ) while on VFR cross country flights. The guys on IFR trips don't do that, they are on the FAA "grid" and expected places and times are part of filing a flight plan.

The Ultralight guys stay totally off the grid and often are the ones reporting crash sites and other weird stuff. Like a DC-10 at an empty airport not used since the Korean war. ( some of those were emergency fields for B-52's. A 747 would have no problems. )

I find it unlikely such a big plane would even try to pass off as private at a small town airport. They do that stuff in the serious boonies. TX, OK, KS, NE, AZ, NM, UT, etc. all have middle of nowhere fields.
