We try to forget... Though you should see her with head collar on when we go for walks - I never got her 100% leash trained, but we're getting there, now.
Yep. Afghan Hound. Her older brother, Red Dog (a very LARGE Afghan Hound) made it to 14 years before he passed.
Afghan Hounds have been accused of being stupid. Yeah. Stupid like a cat! VERY independent!
Tabatha was VERY fast in younger days, but at one time lost a race with a Buick and ended up with rods on and in her leg. She survived that and numerous other threats to her well being...and my bank account. But it has all been worth it!
This is my buddy Kevin the day i brought him home.
This is him 2.5 yrs later. He's 100% grade A mutt and one of the smartest dogs i have owned. The mom is Chihuahua/Dachsund and they thought the neighbors blue pit is the daddy.
This is what he does when i'm neglecting him....haha! He's doing it right now.(crappy cell pic)
Doogle is now a good fetcher. Can bring back different objects on request, ball, flower pot. Correctly enough to think it's better than dumb luck anyway.
Can walk to and from the park on heel without the lead on and is nicely socialised with the rest of the reasonably large dog population that frequent the local reserve.
Only behavior I need to modify currently is that he jumps up on people - over friendly with strangers. He's easy enough to control if I see it coming, but if I take my eye off the ball he can be a nuisance.
Whoa that's a unique mix Jeremy. I think you may have a one-of-a-kind mutt there. Mutts are the best. Kelee was my first "pure breed" dog and probably my last. Oh, I love her to death but it seems the "purer" they are the more prone they are to all types of illnesses and disorders. Our pit-mutt Buddy has the constitution and unstopablitity of a freight train.
Hands down the best breed of dog in the world is the catahoula cur. they are used for.. wild hogs-deer-coon-Mt. lion-black bear-bob cat- and cattle. they are also very good with children.
Thanks squids. He's quite a character and he's spoiled rotten. We also have two Whippets or "whippies". They are really cool dogs also. I love sight hounds.
Today was an interesting day for Darrell. Had both a squirrel and a cat in mouth, shook 'em a bit and let them go. Still a rookie. The cat was under the bird feeder stalking and got caught. The greyhound part of the Catahoula kicked in and it was no contest.
These are out permanent residents. I have my 2 labs and then we have a few Grey Hounds. Out older Grey passed a few months ago and then Lotus, Our Grey Puppy, found our hearts.
My buddy Kublai - 120 of GS love - lol Below is Roxie - his bud, and the brains of the canine unit - god help us - lol
They are total opposites yet they really seam to like each other a lot - tug a war is hilarious though - he patiently holds the rope and she try's to take it from him. We are much richer in joy because of them both. EZ
This is Morgan when she first came home from the rescue, about 2 years ago:
and her with Kelsey, "the" pug:
And here she is about a week ago (sorry about the ugly mug in the background):
No idea what she is. I think she's some sort of border collie mix, but now that she's 44 lbs, I just don't know. I do know she's super sweet and incredibly smart, and even with her left eye missing (hence the name Morgan, as in "Cap'n") she runs, plays, and "watchdogs" the yard (and "her" pug) just fine.
And here is the rest of my family: the white one was a husky/samoyed mix named Kayla. Had to put her down 2.5 years ago, she had a heart defect and was bleeding into her chest cavity Super sweet pup, and only six at the time. I still miss her, but she's still here in her memorial urn. The little one is Kelsey, the pug. She runs the house. Ask her, she'll tell you. Black and white is Calvin, my 16 year old aussie/black lab/keeshond mix. Rescued him as a pup, he's stuck with me ever since. I love that guy!
And a better one of Calvin and the pug (yes, Kelsey is on a platform behind him):
...and I think Kelsey was hungry in this one? Maybe?
And all three of 'em, snuggled in. Shame they don't love each other, isn't it?
I love my lil mutts. They're here for me no matter what, even when things get super-tough and I'm a mess because of it. There are days (lots of days, lately) that I love 'em more than I love people. Dogs don't take the easy way out; they stick with you no matter what happens. People...would rather run away than do the work.
I think my guys have earned a treat today...just for being here.
