I'm thinking about selling my 2004 F-150 XLT 5.4l for a 2011 Ford Fiesta Hatchback SES. Anybody got any experience with them?

My 150 mile commute is eating me up at 20mpg.

Thx
Neil S.

Wow, small world. I have a 2003 XLT 5.4L and am considering the fiesta for the Mrs. I've read and heard good things. I test drove one about a month ago, I was impressed with that little car. Handled and accelerated well. I'm waiting for the right time to pull the trigger.

Holy Sh!t! I want THAT fiesta, after it gets new rims and tires of course. Is AWD an option here or in Europe, or did they outfit just that particular car? I didn't see that while shopping. If I can get one with AWD it will be in my driveway tomorrow.

Thanks for posting that Buellkowski

That video is insane . . one of the coolest I've ever seen!

I bought a Focus last year kinda by accident and it's one of the best cars I've ever owned.

The car cost less than the option package on the Mercedes it replaced, got 37.4 MPG on the trip to 2010 Homecoming . . heated leather seats, sunroof, kick ass stereo, SatRad, Bluetooth everything . . blah, blah

Can't go wrong with the current Ford's. Dealer is trying to get me to take the 1st 2011 F-150.

Thats a Fiesta that Ken Block is driving. That car has really nothing incommon with Fords production car in any way.

Cool driving but Block has pretty much done that same video in the WRX two years ago.LOL You'd think DC and Ford would do something different.

That is an Olsbergs MSE prepped Fiesta. No AWD from the factory.

Didn't mean to hijack Ccryder's thread. There's a lot to like about the new Fiesta. That video is just an exclamation point.

The car in the video has nothing to do with a stock Ford.

The 2010 Focus, named the #1 Quality car of the year . . has proven, in the first 20,000 miles of ownership to be spectacular.

We bought the thing while waiting on Mercedes to introduce the new E Series Cabriolet. The Focus cost less than the option package on the Mercedes.

Cool to see Ford, for the first time, the ONLY American auto maker, at the #5 spot, in the Top 10 Initial Quality rankings . . . cool to see them up there hammering it out with Porsche (#1) and Mercedes.

The Ford will stay even after the convertible arrives . . . 37.4 MPG when traveling cross country, which we do 4 or 5 times a year to WI and KS and back . . .pays for itself.

By the way . . . if you want and need that sort of power . . . it's easily available . . but you need to be quick . . . the expensive car market is as strong as it's been in a long time. I was at the local Porsche dealer yesterday . . they are sold out of Cayman S models (have some base models) and sold out of Cayennes and the salesman said he could sell 10 Cayennes (at just a touch over $100,000 a pop) a week if he could get them.

Folks LOVE fast.

Porsche sells out $329,000 supercar

BY ANDREAS CREMER, BLOOMBERG NEWS OCTOBER 29, 2010 4:05 AM
Porsche sold out the $329,000 US 911 GT2 RS less than two months after the sports-car maker presented its most-expensive serial model, as supercar demand bounces back.

All 500 of the 620-horsepower vehicles, which surge to 100 kilometres per hour in 3.5 seconds, have been reserved, the Stuttgart, Germany-based automaker said this week. Porsche, which premièred the car at the end of August in Moscow, sold 133 of the vehicles to U.S. customers.

"Luxury is coming back and its revival can be seen across all major markets," said Daniel Schwarz, a Frankfurt-based analyst at Commerzbank AG. "People want those premium vehicles."

Porsche last month reported revenue for the year ending July 31 jumped 18 per cent to a record 7.79 billion euros ($11.05 billion Cdn) as a global economic recovery fuels luxury-car sales.

BMW and Mercedes-Benz, the two biggest makers of luxury cars, have raised forecasts this year on surging deliveries in China and a recovery in the U.S. Porsche's fiscal-year sales rose 8.8 per cent to 81,850 units as customers bought the $106,000 Panamera sedan and Cayenne sport-utility vehicle, its best-selling model.

The 911 GT2 RS is the most powerful car among Porsche's three sports-car lines, the 911, Boxster/Cayman and Panamera, which include a total of 30 models. Porsche expects its new 911 Speedster, priced at $280,000 and limited to 356 cars, to sell out by the end of this month, Wolfgang Duerheimer, the company's development chief, said last month at the Paris Motor Show.

Porsche's 911 GT2 RS and the 911 Speedster are part of a plan to expand the manufacturer's lineup of sports cars and SUVs to almost double yearly sales to 150,000 by around 2014. Porsche is merging with Volkswagen AG, Europe's biggest automaker.

If anything happens to my Mustang, I've decided already that it'll be replaced with that Fiesta. Great looking little car in both trims. It's actually a rebadged Mazda 2, which obviously isn't for sale here. Dunno if Ford tinkered with the styling or not.

I dunno why, but I really dig the hatch in Magenta. But if I bought a "pink" car, I'd never live it down!

Yep I bit the bullet last night and I'm a proud owner of a Blue Flame Metallic Fiesta SE. I ended up with the automatic and the 202A and 203A options.

Out the door I cut my fuel consumption in half, before it's even broke in. I was afraid it would not have enough power for 2 lane driving but hold it to the floor and b/t 4,000 and 6,000 it pulls hard (enough) for what I need. Seat of the pants tells me it passes about the same as the F-150 5.4l did but, I don't see those greenbacks spitting out the tailpipe.

I've been impressed with it's lack of body roll and precise handling on the backroads. So far it has not complained about 55mph in those 30mph corners ;+}.

BTW, dealer hold back is in the $550-600 range. One issue, if the dealer has to transfer it from another dealer, your dealer does not get the "dealer hold back".

Gotta run.

Sweet! Post pics!

BTW, I hate the way Ford is labeling their packages. All the numbers and letters just make it confusing. Especially when you're building online, and you check an option that says something like "Option KL7534 will be removed and Option 6676KS will be added". Unless you memorized the package names from 3 steps back, you have no idea what's about to happen!

I wouldn't say 'rebadged', but they share the same platform. Powertrains aren't even the same.

BTW, the Mazda2 is for sale here now, and the styling of the two, both inside and out, are very different to my eyes.

why does majority of people think that small cars don't have power. when the car weighs less then the motor can be made smaller for the same performance as a heaver car.

I find most large trucks don't have enough braking and body control to safely drive on the highways. Sure they can get up to speed, but if shit happens the only thing they can do is go into a ditch.

Crack, and around here, those pickups and SUVs are driving faster on the highway than anyone else. Pretty scary!

Xl, didn't know they had changed up that much for the Fiesta. Last time I checked on it, they were still just tossing the idea around of even making one. Either way, very sweet little car. Shame about the pricing though... they're pretty much the same as a Focus. The hatch starts at $15k (sedan is $13k)! Kinda pricey for an entry level car, IMO, when you can get several others around $10k.

EDIT: my bad, the Focus starts at $16.6k. I thought they were $14k.

SM - I'm with you on the price - seems a little steep for a small car and terribly affordable in that segment. The bad side of that is the Americans (and really, the europeans and japanese) don't have anything that can really compete on price with the koreans.

The UP side, however, is the Fiesta has a much more upscale look and feel to it, and I hope this can work to usher in an era where small cars don't have to be cheap, slow and basic. There's no reason a typical family of four needs anything more than a mid-sized sedan, and if you need more space, opt for the wagon. SUVs are pointless for 95+% of the people who have them. More weight, more engine, more gas and more materials to build them, just not needed.

If there's any way you can get hold of one, go for the Focus 2.0 tdci.

It's a Ford with a Peugeot diesel engine.

136 bhp & huge great bucketfuls of torque. A hooligan in a suit.

I did a little investigation on the cars in this range and the Focus was more expensive and lower mpg, Mazda was pretty close in $'s but lower mpg. Looked at the fit but it was lower mpg and not as nicely appointed. IMHO for the $'s, mpg, build quality and features, the Fiesta fit my needs. Time will tell but 2x mpg makes me smile at the pump!

Xl, the Fiesta isn't alone in seeming overpriced. I was utterly SHOCKED to see what Honda is asking for the Fit. They DO start at $15k, for the absolute base model. And they're ugly as mud to boot. Still not sure how Honda has convinced people a mini-minivan is sporty.

Edmunds is a great reference these days. Doing a comparison is easy and shows the specs you want to see. That where I did most of my specs and $'s review.

When you start looking at customer reviews and forums it tells quickly where there are "issues" (Sound like any place we know? ;+}).

I'm sure if I waited until the availability was higher that more $'s could have been saved but, the timing was good for me. After 135,000 miles on my F-150 you do start looking and listening a little bit more than before. B/T a transmission or an engine going south, it would have cost me big $'s for repair and the trade in would have been reduced. I did get by w/o changing plugs in the Triton engine. I've seen and heard real horror stories about those long reach plugs coming apart and being a real PITA! I even bought a kit to extract the left over "nose shield" since I was worried about R&R on the plugs. That's all just dreams now, 100,000 miles of no worry with this Fiesta.

Small cars do not equal cheep cars. Bigger is not better. Not everyone whats an super sized suv. A small car handles better, brakes better, and can accelerate better.

The Focus is not entry level, companies that have to pay their works have given up on entry level and let the Koreans. If you get a Kia just be prepared for feeling that everything is "not quite right".
I had a few Korean rental cars when I was deployed and even the factor new cars. The Forte would either shift like Granny was driving or like I was racing it. The blue tooth wouldn't maintain the link with my Droid, the Fords had no problems. I couldn't get the window to go down with out activating the auto down function.

I wouldn't buy a KIA, Hyundia, or GM after having them as rentals. The Colbolt was worn out after 30k. It felt like after 30k, you send the car to the scrap yard and get another one.

The nice thing is that usually small cars are designed for 180 lb person not the 300 lb wide butt that most suvs are designed for. So the seat bolsters will help keep me in place in the corners.

Our '06 Hyundai has been the best vehicle we've ever owned, with the possible exception of my '03 Vibe/Matrix. Certainly nicer and more reliable than my '08 Mustang GT. I'm thinking rental cars that people intentionally rag out might not make the best impressions.

When we bought ours, Hyundai was in the top 3 for initial quality, and was 2nd to Lexus in customer satisfaction. Dunno how they're doing now. IMHO, I wouldn't hesitate to get another.

However, none of this has anything to do with the original post, so, back to topic!
