That's why they have system used on newer guard rails that have an end cap on then designed to coil the rail on an impact. I've seen the result and they really do work.

I run a machine at work that cuts 40,000 pound coils of steel into parts. He's lucky it didn't ball up in the car.

the guardrail literally impaled the vehicle by penetrating through the engine block and exiting the rear window, just missing the driver

un-huh.

Sorry but the guard rail did not impale through the engine BLOCK... It did however impale the engine compartment, but went beside the engine block, puncturing the firewall and exiting the vehicle.

Damn! Seriously, that is one of the most bizarre auto mishaps I've ever seen! The more I examine the photos the more...WOW!
That kid should've bought a lottery ticket on the way home.

When I see things like this, it makes me shudder to think that people actually believe that an unskilled pilot couldn't have possibly flown an airliner into the Pentagon.

Ever seen a football bounce?

I'm drunk.

No longer in a drunken state, forgotten I had posted that until just now.

I'm just making the point that bizarre things happen that seem to defy all logic or physics. It's a natural fact. I had just gotten done reading a very windy post on another board, some conspiracy nut claiming that the planes on 9/11 had to have been remote controlled because no one less skilled than a flying ace could have possibly done what they did.

Completely unrelated drunken correlation made by me... strange things happen completely by accident, like this guard rail.

It would have been almost impossible to plan something like that... crazy how it happened.
